a few weeks ago i read the red tent.
the story of dinah, not as told in the bible.
as we xdubs know the representation of women in the bible is lacking.
i read it too! i'm in a book club at work and it was the book i picked when it was my turn to pick. the people in my club all liked it too. was amazed at how much more fulfilling this story of dinah was than the one in the bible. what i remember of the bible story was "dinah was bad, she didn't listen and look what happened to her, she was raped!" found this version to be much more enlightening :) i gave the book to my friend for her flight home to japan. she loved it as well.
okay, i thought since us apostates have been called bitter and angry and unable to see both sides of an issue lately i'd share a positive story about a sister in my old congregation.. this sister was my best friend's grandma.
she was in general just a kind sweet grandma type woman.
every year, she'd put together a "give away.

this sister was my best friend's grandma. she was in general just a kind sweet grandma type woman. every year, she'd put together a "give away." all the families in the congregation would gather their old, grown-out of clothes and things and grandma B would set up shop in her garage. a garage sale without any selling :) she'd have the shop set up for a week or so then she would take all the remaining clothes, shoes etc and ship them off to congregations in outstate minnesota to help out struggling families there. even though she was doing this for her fellow jws, i still think it shows her as trying to be a good christian. she took the initiative to organize this all on her own. my friend's family is weathly, the could have easily just gone about business without a care of what others in the congregations were going through, since from the platform, this kind of charity is not encouraged or even a requirement for jws. but i do not think she was the way she was because of the witness, more like she was kind and generous in spite of them.
she also made life for us kids in the hall a little brighter. she'd throw parties for us, where ALL the kids were invited, make up great games for us to play and seemed to truly love seeing us all laughing and having a great time.
i consider grandma b to be a true christian, walking the walk, talking the talk. and trying her darnedest to live by jesus' two commandments within the wacky world of the jws.
anyone else got some stories about great people who touched our lives?
greetings from the ``here we go again'' department.
while worldlings have only the song of the robins and the bloom of the daffodils and crocuses as harbingers of spring, jehovah's people and readers of their literature can always count on two more: the annual ``don't partake!
'' article in the watchtower, and the yearly exhortation to ``make nice at the summer's assemblies'' in the km.. in the case of the latter, the tone and content of the annual scolding is unbelievably demeaning to any responsible adult... being told to dress nice (suits and ties only, please, for the men and deresses only -- not too short ladies) not to abuse complimentary breakfasts, pool privileges and generally avoid rowdiness at the hotels where they stay-- all laced with clearly fabricated -- not to mention unattributed-- quotes from ``worldly observers amazed by our fine conduct.''.
this just goes to show that when you purposely train (aka: brainwashing ;) ) your followers to leave their brains at the door, you must then treat them as two year olds.
stove HOT! don't touch billy
now i know money is a touchy subject, so if you feel discomforted by these questions, don't answer!.
remember those articles that basically said "some have asked an appropriate amount to contribute for items such as the cd, bound volumes etc.
this crap usually sells for $x in the shops."?.
i never donated but my 'rents did. i guess that could mean i donated by having a few less pairs of new jeans for school or new shoes and many more hand me downs.

interesting article about what happened in jenin
val,
thanks for posting that great article. i have to say, if i was forced to live like that you bet i'd be fighting back like hell. what a mess :(
in the following scenario, who is at fault:.
a parked vehicle (car a) has just parked.
the driver gets out, and the passenger starts to get out a little after the driver does.
my answer to off topic question, probably be the car doing the pushing at fault there.
can't you get a lawyer to settle with his insurance co? of course his insurance and yours are not going to agree....
sorry dude, hope it works out.

i agree with expat, probably would be the fault of the moving car.
i have no legal expertise either but i did teach driver's education for a year :P

Harmony
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The name of Harmony creates a very quiet (huh? me quiet, i guess sometimes..), practical nature and a clever and inventive mind. Being analytical and naturally studious, you are interested in a factual understanding of the mysteries of life. Your methodical nature requires that you like to finish what you start without interruptions and also to have everything in its place and properly organized (only if they mean an organized mess!). An ability to concentrate could take you into computer programming or accountancy or any work requiring concentration and attention to detail. You have, also, a flair for creative expression with your hands. You take life seriously and can be easily and deeply hurt and go into moods which can be quite extreme at times, causing much turmoil and unhappiness(umm, no). Finding it difficult to join in conversation with those with whom you are not well-acquainted, you could feel quite alone and uncommunicative with new acquaintances or in a large crowd (only the first 5 minutes or so, then i let loose!). As a result, you could be accused of being unfriendly(me, unfriendly! why i never :p). You desire so much to be understood, but your name has limited your verbal expression to such an extent that it is very difficult for you to divulge your innermost thoughts even to those closest to you (not true either). One of your greatest salvations is being out in nature, for it is there that you find the peace and serenity you so much desire. Physically you could suffer through tension in the heart, lungs, or bronchial organs, and also through intestinal problems, constipation (haha), etc.
not very accurate but interesting still :) thanks
