How old is old?
by joey jojo inhaving a conversation with a pimi elder and i asked him how he deals with the fact that he never expected to get old.
i get the feeling that some dubs still have the original generation explanation hard-wired, even though they claim to accept the new version.
so my question is, how old do you have to be to be considered old?

"Old" keeps moving up. Now it's the 80's and beyond.
But if a person has their health and their mind, 80's is just a number.

Do You Think “Higher Education “Is All That??
by minimus inas jehovah’s witnesses, we were regularly told how awful a college education is.
i’m no longer associated with the religion but i am not so pro university.
it’s not because i think you are better off without a degree.

A college degree can help to open some doors. That being said, much of what I learned to get my bachelor's degree was not helpful in the real world. Education needs to be streamlined. Why should doctors need to learn about literature or history? Same for accountants or other career fields. Lots of wasted time. We could have more doctors (that are desperately needed) if they only were required to learn the things in their field.

How Much of the WT Teaching Did You Believe?
by Ding insome people on this forum have said that they never really believed any aspect of wt teaching, that they couldn't wait to get free of it all.. others seems to have been really gung ho, believing it all until something happened that got you questioning "the truth.".
i would say my own high water mark was about 50%, which put me squarely on the fence, trying to decide if i should be in or out.. how about you?.

It was all I knew for the first part of my life. I was an impressionable kid. I believed it. Yet some stuff rubbed me the wrong way. Like saying my Dad would die at Armaggedon because he wasn't a JW. He is such a great and humble man. It didn't make sense to me that God would kill him off like that.

Netflix “Explained: Cults”
by Butterfly607 inhas anyone else seen the netflix documentary “explained: cults”?
i thought it was well done.
i feel like a jw might watch it and feel uncomfortable as the show goes through the definition of cults and then the step by step indoctrination process.

How Long Did It Take To Finally Leave The Organization Once You Realized It Was Really Not The Truth?

I left thinking the truth was no fun. Just meetings study and service. I didn't want that life anymore. That was the 80s and information was not available as it is today. It took years to realize it wasn't the truth. Had google and YouTube been around then it would have been quick. -

Just finished reading the book. I got it for free on Amazon unlimited but later decided to buy the kindle version for 99 cents to have a permanent copy. It is jaw-dropping and eye opening. Thanks to the author for sharing his story.

Thank you Deborah Dykstra for all your hard work in getting this book published. You persisted through the difficulties and the criticisms. Many will now benefit from your efforts.
My deepest sympathies on the loss of your dear husband.
Thanks also to Mike & Kim for getting the word out that this book is available.

Best statement a householder made to get you to leave them alone.

I had a bible study once and she began attending the book study with me. I'd drive the five miles each week and pick her up and drop her off. Suddenly she was not home for her book study. I called and spoke to her husband. He said she had left him but I could still call on him. I had never met this man and I got a funny feeling about it. We arranged a day and time and I took an elder with me. The husband opened the door wearing a bathrobe. The elder and I said a few words and quickly left. It was extremely awkward. Needless to say I never called or visited again. Now, thinking back, I believe this was a ploy to stop all visits. It worked.
