  i've been lurking here for a while, but i figured i should say hello and introduce myself.

  i haven't been attending the meetings for a couple months now and i'm a graduate pharmacist.

  i look forward to getting to know people.

  Thats hilarious lol, are you in the medical field as well? I don't really mind talking about it at all. My parents weren't 100% supportive of me going off to school, but they also didn't completely try to stop me. Though it was hard the first year doing things on my own. I didn't get much support moving to a city by myself and the only way I was able to get them to come around was promising to attend meetings. They actually found someone in the new town who would come and pick me up on meeting nights so that I always attended

  Question for science geeks

  do any of you know anything about prescription medications and their reactions?

  the doctors cannot explain why but i react to everything they prescribe to the point that now all my doctors are attempting neutral remedies before medication.

  tomorrow i am having surgery to drill a hole in my head to put in a titanium rod and we are doing local instead of general simply because it lessens the amount of needed drugs.

  Those are a lot of medications and I'm guessing that these are ones you've been on the past. It would be impossible for me to give any kind of specific advice without having an adequate medical history and its not something I'd do for licensing concerns either unfortunately (I also agree with the comment regarding being careful when getting advice from the internet - even when considering myself to be a qualified professional)

  That being said, I would suggest speaking with your pharmacist next time you get your prescriptions filled and/or requesting for medication consultation. They would be able to provide you with more information regarding what constitutes a side effect versus an adverse drug reaction versus interactions between multiple drugs.

  The other problem with taking multiple medications is that occasionally incorrect adverse reactions get paired with the wrong medication, so again that would be my suggestion is getting into contact with a pharmacist that can sit down with you to go over your medications and what you should expect etc.

  To add to that comment:

  The other thing to distinguish is between adverse effect(allergy) and side effect. For example, getting stomach upset from penicillin is a side effect, while having throat swelling is an adverse effect

  I made an account solely for the purpose of responding to this lol. There is no catch all answer to your question unfortunately as everyone will have different reactions to medications. Without adequate history of the medications and what the exact reactions (under assumption that they're recorded/accurate) are I can't give an adequate answer.

  In regards to testing there are multiple genetic tests that that can be done to see how someone might respond to a medication. Typically only specific tests are used/routinely recommended for patients receiving specific medications. But you could also have genetic mapping done to provide at your discretion to providers. But again, it's not really recommended at this time due to cost considerations.
