so i was checking out the website to see what the february broadcast was all about before i watched it with my jw wife.. on the front page was this video.... https://tv.jw.org/#en/video/vodbible/pub-jwbai_201607_1_video.
i watched it and pretended i had never been a jw.. if you pretend you don't understand their particular language it makes for a interesting (if not vague) watch.. btw i've seen several of the actors before.
jw version of movie stars?
Looking at it now as as a non JW it just reeks of sadness. It's so sad that he has to report what he does, who he talks to etc to his parents and elders.
Yeah mate, dump that nice pretty girl, spend the best years of your life wasting away in the "ministry school".
The girl had a lucky escape if you ask me.
so a few months ago, a friend sent me an actual copy of finished mystery which was published in 1917 (not a pdf download... the actual book).
i must say, this was the most disturbing book i have ever had the displeasure of reading.
but i only read it because this was the main publication that was being distributed worldwide when jesus supposedly chose the watchtower in 1918 and i basically wanted to see for myself what jesus saw in the wt that would compel him to choose this religious corporation over all other religious denominations.. anyway, if anyone is interested in knowing the actual contents of this book, here are some bullet points i put together from some of the notes i took as i read the book:.
Funny thing is, if you believed these things now you'd be disfellowshipped... even though Jesus apparently chose these teachings himself.
i am interested in finding out on a small scale the extent of which shunning has impacted on you personally.. my own experience is that when i faded about 12 years ago.
the woman whose house the book study was held at (and who was virtually a neighbour) walked right past me in my own street.
i remember it so well.
I hardly seen my family anyway but it still sucks that they have nothing to do with me. My mum tells people I'm dead, one of my sisters spreads rumours about why I was DF'd (everything from adultary to worshipping Satan).
The flip side is I really enjoy making JWs squirm when they see me. One time I was with my daughter and they completely blanked me but said hello to her. So I said out loud "hey look, they're pretending they can't see me! Aren't they idiots? That's what cults do!"
They heard THAT I can tell you.
steve2: is there some way this can be presented so that it is crystal clear what was actually in the demonstrations and what was added?
i guess some will think it should be obvious - but this is where misunderstandings arise because we end up wrongly attributing something to jw organization that was never said.. circuit assembly theme: maintain love for jehovah!.
note to speaker: warmly encourage young ones to prove their friendship with jehovah by observing his commandments and defending his standards.
I guarantee there will be some butch JW men in the audience wearing ladies underwear during this.
There's definitely a sense of panic as the JW's hemorrhage members. You only have to take a look at how the theme of the conventions has suddenly changed from appealing to witnesses AND non witnesses to just witnesses (they really love those exclamation marks don't they?):
2007: Follow The Christ
2008: Guided By Gods Spirit
2009: Keep On The Watch!
2010: Remain Close To Jehovah!
2011: Let Gods Kingdom Come!
2012: Safeguard Your Heart!
2013: Gods Word Is Truth!
2014: Keep Seeking First Gods Kingdom!
2015: Imitate Jesus
2016: Remain Loyal To Jehovah!
2017: Don't Give Up!
two ironys here... first of all the title "keep in expectation as jehovahs day draws near" - (this talk is from 2006!!
) i suppose 11 years isnt near enough.
second is that geoffrey jackson, of all people, is giving a talk that goes on and on about liars and how jehovah never lies.

I think i get it, those men on the convention flyer are running AWAY from Watchtower right?
i tried posting this yesterday morning - but it seemed to hand on 'queued for processing' - it's been 24 hours now and it hasn't appeared yet, so i'm posting again..... wednesday's episode of bbc tv's long running daily late-lunch drama/soap 'doctors' was centred on a jw-related 'blood' story - looking at the knock-on effect three years.. they don't mention jw, just god.
they've also taken a number of liberties in order to make the story work (sister giving out personal mobile number to man, making 'return visit' on man by herself etc.
the time frame for the story is also really only a few hours) - but it's an interesting twist on the usual portrayal as it looks at the knock-on effect three years.. you can watch it in full on the bbc webste via ipayer for the next couple of weeks.. wednesday 1 february 2017 - bbc one tv 1.45pm - doctors: a question of faith.
this is the first time i've read through a watchtower magazine in about a year.
although i've been our only 8 months it really git me how crazy i must have sounded when i was a jw talking to non jws.. while other bible based religions talk about the 4 horsemen and back up their theories with other scriptures or historical evidence, the watchtower have taken so such steps.
1914 is thrown in there as if it's universally agreed that jesus started ruling since then.. even when i was a jw i never really understood why, if the pale horse represents jesus, why is he first?

Even when i was a JW i never really understood why, if the pale horse represents Jesus, why is he first? Surely the prince of peace should come AFTER the other horses to rectify war, pestilence and death?
