What has got them so worked up?
I've no idea. Nothing in this weeks CLAM to suggest the big A is any more imminent.
3 missed calls from my jw brother last night.
i didnt answer because he's actively shunning me and when he does ring it always to preach to me about how we're so close to the end and how i should "humble myself before the mighty hand of god" .
he then texts me saying "we need to talk".

He then texts me saying "we need to talk". I didn't take the bait. He's done this before. Could it be a death in the family? Is he having doubts? I decided to leave it and i'd ring him in a day or two.
Then i get a random text from my sister. "Armageddon is just around the corner. It's like being 1 minute to midnight, you still have a choice, serve God or serve men" (oh the irony)
I didnt reply. Half an hour later she texts "You're going to die in armageddon".
So that's it folks. We should all worship Jehovah because if we dont he'll kill us all. Sounds like a lovely relationship.
This is one ex-JW that cant be motivated by fear.
i think the finished mystery book probably contains the stupidest beliefs ever recorded!
almost any prophecy publication but especially anything to do with revelation, is unbelievable!
.
God, i could be here all day... but i'd say the most bizarre right now is that of all the people in all the earth, Jehovah God chose seven men in New York to be his mouthpeice on earth... and THIS is one of them.
we all know that the society claims that jesus invisibly chose the bible students (forerunners of jw) in 1919 to be his organization here on earth.. yet, as we know, so much of what they then taught and did was wrong according to current teaching and practice.. the reply witnesses will give is something like "they were the most sincere seekers of truth blah blah...and jesus could see their potential".
so, pretend for a moment that the current organization and the 1919 organization were both in concurrent existence at the time he invisibly came to choose.... which would he choose?
the current or former?.
I think it's fair to say that Jesus would be disfellowshipped from the org very quickly if he were on the earth now.
He shown love and understanding
He expressed forgiveness
He stood up to "those taking the lead" of his day
He had a beard
He associated with tax collectors, prostitutes and sinners
And he wore a dress

no mention whatsoever that it was watchtower themselves that strongly hinted towards this date.
instead they blame those who "put their trust in a date, not jehovah".. let's recap... .
I remember in the late 80s/early 90s when i was a little kid and my dad telling me "back in the 70s some people got the idea into their heads that armageddon would come in 1975. The Watchtower never said that. Bethel never said that. Someone thought it up and spread it around. Some people sold their houses and took out loans, quit their jobs and went on holiday thinking they'd never have to pay it back."
My dad came into the truth the cult in 1977. Two years after the fiasco. So of course he only had second hand knowledge of what happened. No internet and CD Roms back then to check for himself what actually was said.

So in May 1974 you were commended if you sold your homes and property.
In 2017 if you were one of those that sold your home and property you were weak and dedicated to "a date".
The mind boggles. Is you mind boggling? Dont let it boggle too much!

Just done a quick calculation.
In the Awake! Magazine dated May 22nd 1969 page 15 they said:
"If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the "last days" in 1914, Jesus foretold: "This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur."-Matt. 24:34. Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in highschool and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish, if not actually gone!" Awake! 1969 May 22 p.15
If you were 17yo in 1969, you'd be 65 years old now. That means you not only would have completed your college course, but you would have had you whole career and be retiring this year (in the UK at least). Ample time to start full time pioneering while having a comfortable nest egg, family and nice home.
Watchtower shot themselves in the foot there. Just think of all those lovely pound notes that could have been flittering their way to bethel since 1969 from educated, well paid members.

Why on earth would they voluntarily bring up that topic?
People who lived through it (as I did) will recognize the sleight of hand, blaming "some" when in fact it was the WTS itself which introduced, then hyped, the date.
People who didn't live through it are capable of googling to find out about, or even if they are utter JW loyalists, looking up info on WT Library on it. Those Watchtower quotes are on the CD / DVD.
It's a stupid unforced error. What possible good comes from bringing up the most embarrassing teaching* in the past 50 years?
* Edit - maybe "2nd most embarrassing" - the "overlapping generations" thing is on the same order of magnitude.
Only reason i can think of is maybe people are talking about 1975 and researching outside JWorg and the org want to nip it in the bud now. When i was "in" i did research 1975 on the WT Library CD Rom. Read what it said and did think to myself "if i were alive back then i'dve thought it as well". But thought no more about it.

Let's recap...
"Does God's rest day parallel the time man has been on earth since his creation? Apparently so. In what year, then, would the first 6,000 years of man's existence and also the first 6,000 years of Gods rest day come to an end? The year 1975. It means that within a relatively few years we will witness the fulfilment of the remaining prophecies that have to do with the "time of the end"." Awake! 1966 Oct 8 pp.19-20
"It did not take the brothers very long to find the chart beginning on page 31, showing that 6,000 years of man's existence end in 1975. Discussion of 1975 overshadowed about everything else. "The new book compels us to realize that Armageddon is, in fact, very close indeed," said a conventioner. Surely it was one of the outstanding blessings to be carried home!" .. Brother Franz. 'Does it mean that Armageddon is going to be finished, with Satan bound, by 1975? It could! It could! All things are possible with God. Does it mean that Babylon the Great is going to go down by 1975? It could. Does it mean that the attack of Gog of Magog is going to be made on Jehovah's witnesses to wipe them out, then Gog himself will be put out of action? It could. But we are not saying. All things are possible with God. But we are not saying. And don't any of you be specific in saying anything that is going to happen between now and 1975. But the big point of it all is this, dear friends: Time is short. Time is running out, no question about that." Watchtower 1966 Oct 15 pp.629,631
"Well now, as Jehovah's Witnesses, as runners, even though some of us have become a little weary, it almost seems as though Jehovah has provided meat in due season. Because he's held up before all of us, a new goal. A new year. Something to reach out for and it just seems it has given all of us so much more energy and power in this final burst of speed to the finish line. And that's the year 1975. Well, we don't have to guess what the year 1975 means if we read the Watchtower. And don't wait 'till 1975. The door is going to be shut before then. As one brother put it, "Stay alive to Seventy-Five"" - 1967 District Convention, Wisconsin Sheboygan District Overseer Brother Charles Sunutko
"The immediate future is certain to be filled with climactic events, for this old system is nearing its complete end. Within a few years at most the final parts of Bible prophecy relative to these "last days" will undergo fulfillment." Watchtower 1968 May 1 p.272
"With the appearance of the book Life Everlasting-in Freedom of the Sons of God, and its comments as to how appropriate it would be for the millennial reign of Christ to parallel the seventh millennium of man's existence, considerable expectation was aroused regarding the year 1975. ... Unfortunately, however, along with such cautionary information, there were other statements published that implied that such realization of hopes by that year was more of a probability than a mere possibility ." Watchtower 1980 Mar 15 p.17
I rest my case m'lord.
