The "Imperfect Men" Argument
by steve2 inone of the most common "defences" of jw organization is that "the brothers" are imperfect yet still strive to follow god's word.
"sure, they make mistakes," so the argument goes, "but so did god's people in the past, including in bible times.
" the key point is their readiness to keep studying god's word and learning from their mistakes.".

You know who else are "imperfect men, sincere in their study of the bible?"
The Pope
The Archbishop of Canterbury
Thomas S Monson (Mormon president)
St.Jerome (translated the bible into Latin)
Martin Luther
Yet, if we dared to follow what these men say/said we'd be out on our ear. We're supposed to follow "the best imperfect organization on earth".

Part of me wishes that while i was in i should have claimed to be anointed and watch what happens. I was always the bible scholar. The stand-in talk guy when a speaker didnt turn up, i did talks because i actually liked doing them.
Should have claimed to be anointed. The elders would hate me for it.

Another perk for the Cooks is that now they get to travel anywhere they want to in the world, with first class air and 5 star accommodations, for "theocratic" activities.
I wonder why Tony Morris wanted to give a talk in Trinidad? I hear the climate is lovely over there.
Meanwhile, the poor brothers in Russia are having meetings in secret with digital publications downloaded off the internet. No GB member planning a visit? No? Oh, yeah, "we're with you in spirit brothers".
Was it Paul who was beaten up and thrown out of the city gates? And then returned years later and preached again? The GB should take a leaf out of his book.

From Darkspilvers thread:
One brother I know well was "anointed" at Wallkill, while sitting at this desk, three or four years ago. He was in his early 50's at the time.
Anointed at his desk. The poor cleaner.
Does this mean Mr and Mrs Cook get upgraded to a penthouse suite like the Letts and the Morris's?

Having started University since leaving the cult i can see why they discourage it. Every essay i submit HAS TO be referenced in the paragraph, full reference at the end, any claims i make need to be fully supported and explained how i came to that conclusion AND the opposing argument HAS TO be considered fully too.
As my professor put it, "the arguments we present is not to win an argument, it's so that it can be criticized by others to see if it's true".
Imagine if Watchtower submitted their stuff to a University. It'd wouldn't even be marked.

The Preaching Method Has Flip-Flopped Again
by pale.emperor inim currently reading a book called jehovah's witnesses: portrait of a contemporary religious movement (https://www.amazon.co.uk/jehovahs-witnesses-portrait-contemporary-religious/dp/0415266106).the researcher is a social scientist, was never a jw, who studied with the witnesses solely to write this book.
his research has been quite thorough and objective which is commendable.he mentioned in the book how rutherford didn't want his colporters (pioneers) giving their own sermons or bible interpretation, but instead he had them going door to door with his records.
(i have some converted to mp3, they're very boring).

He mentioned in the book how Rutherford didn't want his colporters (pioneers) giving their own sermons or bible interpretation, but instead he had them going door to door with his records. (I have some converted to mp3, they're very boring). When Rutherford died and Knorr took over, Knorr wanted each JW to be able to preach effectively. So they done away with the records and set up training for preaching, which would eventually become the kingdom ministry school.
Isn't it strange then, that now they've effectively reverted back to Rutherfords method of referring people to a website and showing them a video on a tablet?
My theory is that Tightpants Tony has something to do with this. He reminds me very much of Rutherford. His talks lack warmth, lack humor and he constantly berates his audience rather than showing any genuine love.
It's interesting, and delightful, to see Watchtower flip-flopping once again on something they previously claimed was an improvement, the witnessing to people. Yet now the witnesses are wetting their pants in awe that their glorious GB have had "new light" from Jehovah in how to preach effectively - show them a video.
Is it right that they're going to just call on interested ones now and not offer mags?

Pornography and Uni named in the same sentence. How odd.
This must be the only religion where one can be an accused child molester and keep their position, but if they want to be a doctor or professor you get named and shamed.
Can someone explain this madness?
