I used to celebrate it with other young ones who were married with their own place. Didn't broadcast it on social media though. Sometimes it's disguised as just a party which just-so-happens to be on new years eve.

JWs celebrating New Year's?
by neat blue dog inthere are a few active jws i know (separate, in different areas) who basically celebrate new years, having a party to watch the ball drop, posting about it on social media, one even saying literally "happy new year" .
but most other jws seem to not want to point out the elephant in the room.
has anybody else seen this, or ever seen it turn judicial?

Yet another example why you can't reason with a JW
by nowwhat? inso i mentioned to my pimi brother that the org.
only grew by 1.4 % 2 years in row and if you factor in the birthrate of 1.1 % that's only 3/10 of 1% growth for all that hard work.
i thought people would be streaming to the mountain of jehovah in the last days?

When people want to believe something they’ll find a reason to. I was just as bad when I was in.

Yh I've heard the majority of these. The JEHOVAH on the shiney floor I remember my dad telling my that one when I was like 6.
Did you ever hear or read the one where a brother was in prison in WW2 and the guard used to use pages of the bible to roll his cigarettes and the brothers collected all the dog ends and would hold bible studies in the prison using the left over pages of the bible?

On a lighter note, here's something I received recently from a JW:
I was walking home last night and decided to take a short-cut through the cemetery. Three girls walked up to me and explained that they were scared to walk past the cemetery at night, so I agreed to let them walk along with me. I told them, "I know how you feel - I used to get freaked out too when I was alive."
Ok, this weird... I heard the exact same story from an elderly sister in the KH I grew up in. That being the case it's probably an urban myth.

What JW Beliefs Did You Find Difficult To Explain?
by minimus inthere are a lot.
anything blood related was difficult to reasonably prove from a witness perspective.. 1914 was another one.
what can you add to the list?

For me, whenever i read the epistles of Paul I couldn't get my head around the idea that "this doesn't refer to you, he's talking about the 144,000 only". I remember reading some of it thinking it was very clear that he's talking about all Christians - so had to revert to Watchtowers to explain it away to me.

Meal at Bethel
by Listener inan ex bethelite has made a video about the food that was provided at hq's.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxbe9hacqxu.
towards the end he talks about the new arrangements with the cutbacks.for breakfast if you had served a certain amount of time at bethel or were old enough you could choose whether you wanted to attend breakfast/morning worship or not.
first year bethels were made to attend to ensure they were watching the morning worship.

Remember that photo that went viral with JWs of Tony Morris washing a cup? And the captions were "oh he's so humble!"
Washing a f***ing cup? What's so special about that?

"Jehovah will satisfy all our desires in the new system!" Are you sure about that?
by nowwhat? inbill ,a non witness is killed driving home after work, providing for his family.
he left behind his wife and 3 kids all under 8 years of age.
armageddon comes the very next month.

You're forgetting, Jehovah will lovingly remove your non JW relatives from your memory.
Yes, when god cant make you happy he resorts to giving you a lobotomy instead.

Jehovah’s witnesses and having kids
by Addison0998 inin my area, a lot of young people don’t want to have kids.
they get married young from 18-22 years old, and think that they know how they’re going to feel the rest of their lives about having children, (which they think will be never).
i respect people who don’t want to have kids, there are good reasons not to, but i think it’s foolish at a young age to think you will never think differently for the rest of your life.

This must be the equivalent of inviting someone to your home for dinner, then presenting them with a bill at the end for the food they've eaten AND the food YOU eaten plus the cost of heating and electricity.
