Can a Person Resign From Being One of Jehovah’s Witnesses?
by UnshackleTheChains inhow many witnesses are aware that technically, according to watchtower policy, they can if they wish too...associate with dissociated and disfellowshipped relatives.
for all those who are dissociated or disfellowshipped, please share this with your relatives who are currently shunning you.
there is nothing the elders can do as long as they are not discussing spiritual matters.

Jaydubyaborg FAQ paints a less than truthful view too.
Do Jehovah's Witnesses Shun Former Members of Their Religion?
"What of a man who is disfellowshipped but whose wife and children are still Jehovah's Witnesses? The religious ties he had with his family change, but blood ties remain. The marriage relationship and normal family affections and dealings continue."
Filthy liars. When those children reach the age of majority the shunning is expected to commence! (If not before)
And lets not forget that the leaver is held to ransom for the rest of his life because if he dares to join another religion, celebrate a holiday or vote he's "disassociated by his actions". It's a dirty trap.

I haven't watched it yet but im gonna take a stab in the dark here...
The son who wants to leave is acting all self righteous and hard hearted and the parents are sobbing because HE left THEM? Then HE leaves the family home voluntarily and the PARENTS are the ones to be pitied?
Yeah, coz that's exactly how it happens in real life.

I tried this. I took a photo of the page from Shepherd The Flock Of God and sent it to my family (i think it's page 116?). My mum replied that it's clearly an apostate fake because the elders dont have a secret handbook!

Help with fading, please...

Welcome longgone
I know exactly where you're coming from. I too am a 3rd generation born in. Fading is possible but you need to take it slow and not make any big movements - in the sense of suddenly celebrating Christmas openly, birthdays etc.
I know of lots of people who faded successfully by not turning up to the hall and when questioned just said something like "im going through some personal issues right now" and leaving it there. Dont agree to any elders visits, dont tell any JW or friend/family of a JW what you're thinking. JW's (as we all know) are superb at spreading gossip even though their own mags condemn it.
I wouldn't feel too bad on your family either. Think of it as North Korea. This organization is very much like a dictatorship were defectors are punished. To escape you cant trust anyone (JW). They may mean well by ratting you out to elders sincerely thinking theyre "saving you from armageddon".
Feel free to PM me, and by all means post on here often so we can help.

Learn To Speak Like A Jehovah's Witness
by pale.emperor infor those who were never a jw, here's a fun guide to passing yourself as one:.
privilege [priv-lij] - a duty nobody would volunteer to do which is assigned to you without your say so.
such as cleaning the toilets, picking up other brats candy wrappers in the back row and being stuck on locking up duty for the 7th time in a row.. df'd [dee-eff'd] - disfellowshipped.

FINISHED HIS EARTHLY COURSE: He's dead.
NEW LIGHT: The result of some 60+yo who ate some cheese before bed and woke up with a "really cool" idea in his head which 8 million people must now all believe if they want to keep their family and friends.
ONE OF THE REMNANT: A crazy fool that thinks he's gonna live as a king/priest in heaven when he croaks it.

I dont think the WT are clever enough to use subliminal messages. I think they genuinely believe they are what they say they are. So i put them down to coincidence.

Starting a 'Bible Study' - The Basics
by Joe Grundy ini never was a jw.
i was brought up in a fairly fundie sect (pb) and have been for many years an interested atheist.
i am an admirer of the work of bart ehrman (and recommend his blog).. from time to time, jws call at my door and invite me to partake in a 'bible study'.

OP, you've made me curious - what was Paul and Jesus' last names? I dont know either.
On another note, when i was a Jdub it was the born again's i had the most disdain for.

Fudging The Numbers JW Style
by pale.emperor ini know most of us have probably figured this out already, but remember the good old days where you could only count full hours in the ministry?.
then one of the gb get some "new light" from their ass and proclaim that they lovingly will allow people to report 30mins, then even 15mins of time.
this was, supposedly, so that the old and infirm could have a joy in the ministry and report what little they could do.
-
pale.emperor
you're now able to count family worship - No, you are not
WELL MANY ARE, IN MY CONGREGATION AT LEAST
etc etc - What is "etc. etc."? - are you suggesting dogs?ETC IS AN ABBREVIATION FOR "ET CETERA", APOLOGIES FOR THE CONFUSION. IT'S EASIER TO TYPE ETC ETC RATHER THAN GIVING A COMPLETE LIST OF EXAMPLES.

This was, supposedly, so that the old and infirm could have a joy in the ministry and report what little they could do. I suspect, nay, i am confident, this is just because all those 15mins and 30mins add up to hours and hey presto you have hundreds more hours to boast about in the new yearbook! (Even as a Jdub i saw through this shit.)
Then... every so often (usually around memorial or convention time) they allow auxiliary pioneering to report a lot less hours yet still be considered pioneering. So lots of Jdubs in full time work (myself included) jump at the chance to "reach out" and auxiliary pioneer with bogus hours. Again, those numbers add up. So it's not that the ministry has increased, it's probably stayed the same or even dropped. In reality they've just cashes in all the loose change and added it all up.
Then... you're now able to count family worship, studying with an inactive one, studying with your children etc etc - and hey presto more hours for the year book!!
It makes me glad that i very rarely filled in a report slip truthfully. Yes, a blank report slip was my canvas. The rule of thumb was how many hours did you really do? multiply it by 10 and divide by 3.
