2017 Circuit Assembly: Lesbians at school demonstration
by darkspilver insteve2: is there some way this can be presented so that it is crystal clear what was actually in the demonstrations and what was added?
i guess some will think it should be obvious - but this is where misunderstandings arise because we end up wrongly attributing something to jw organization that was never said.. circuit assembly theme: maintain love for jehovah!.
note to speaker: warmly encourage young ones to prove their friendship with jehovah by observing his commandments and defending his standards.

There's definitely a sense of panic as the JW's hemorrhage members. You only have to take a look at how the theme of the conventions has suddenly changed from appealing to witnesses AND non witnesses to just witnesses (they really love those exclamation marks don't they?):
2007: Follow The Christ
2008: Guided By Gods Spirit
2009: Keep On The Watch!
2010: Remain Close To Jehovah!
2011: Let Gods Kingdom Come!
2012: Safeguard Your Heart!
2013: Gods Word Is Truth!
2014: Keep Seeking First Gods Kingdom!
2015: Imitate Jesus
2016: Remain Loyal To Jehovah!
2017: Don't Give Up!

Geoffrey Jackson 2006 Convention Talk - Keep In Expectation As Jehovahs Day Draws Near
by pale.emperor intwo ironys here... first of all the title "keep in expectation as jehovahs day draws near" - (this talk is from 2006!!
) i suppose 11 years isnt near enough.
second is that geoffrey jackson, of all people, is giving a talk that goes on and on about liars and how jehovah never lies.

UK TV Drama: Doctors - A Question of Faith
by darkspilver ini tried posting this yesterday morning - but it seemed to hand on 'queued for processing' - it's been 24 hours now and it hasn't appeared yet, so i'm posting again..... wednesday's episode of bbc tv's long running daily late-lunch drama/soap 'doctors' was centred on a jw-related 'blood' story - looking at the knock-on effect three years.. they don't mention jw, just god.
they've also taken a number of liberties in order to make the story work (sister giving out personal mobile number to man, making 'return visit' on man by herself etc.
the time frame for the story is also really only a few hours) - but it's an interesting twist on the usual portrayal as it looks at the knock-on effect three years.. you can watch it in full on the bbc webste via ipayer for the next couple of weeks.. wednesday 1 february 2017 - bbc one tv 1.45pm - doctors: a question of faith.

Watchtower No.3 2017 - The Four Horesmen
by pale.emperor inthis is the first time i've read through a watchtower magazine in about a year.
although i've been our only 8 months it really git me how crazy i must have sounded when i was a jw talking to non jws.. while other bible based religions talk about the 4 horsemen and back up their theories with other scriptures or historical evidence, the watchtower have taken so such steps.
1914 is thrown in there as if it's universally agreed that jesus started ruling since then.. even when i was a jw i never really understood why, if the pale horse represents jesus, why is he first?

What have been some of the funniest local needs talks that you have heard?
by DaPriest ini remember once in berlin south germany there was a local needs part for the men only, and how they should use the toilet.
in all seriousness for ten minutes a retarded nigerian was going on about how men need to sit down when using the toilet.
no mention of anything else.. it transpired that some little kraut boy from an "interested" family would aim for the side of the toilet and leave a great big puddle for others to clean up.

Three i remember:
1 - "Lord Of The Rings... if you only knew, brothers, the satanism and demonic influence that is rife in that movie".
2 - "There's a popular band out there called Oasis. They swear on stage, the spit on stage... they're not for christians brothers. Why not listen to our Kingdom songs instead?"
(While we're on the subject, they're not supposed to openly name movies or bands are they?)
3 - One C.O. tried to ban the brothers from going to pubs. Liking them to a cesspit of immorality and akin to Sodom and Gomorrah. (I dont know what pubs he's been to but I'd love to go there!) Needless to say, the majority of the congregation thought he was a total nut and took no notice. Even the elders thought he was crazy. There were a few sisters that thought he was "the best speaker ever" and took supported his pub ban.

About 6 months ago I really did stop allowing my daughter to visit. This was when she suggested I "drop her off at the front gate and stand at the bottom of the road while I get her" then repeat the charade when I collect her later that day. That was the final straw. I told her I didn't want my daughter to form a bond with someone who might totally disown her in the future if she ever doesn't want to be a JW. My mum was hysterical. Claimed it was Satan using me as a tool.
A few weeks after that I relented because I wanted my daughter to know her cousins who are the same age. And they're always at my mums place.

Thanks for the replies and messages guys. It means a lot. I was coming home from work today and think about all this and suddenly it hit me... since leaving I've made a few friends and I have no idea what their religious beliefs are. They all became friends with me because they like me and we have things in common. And likewise I'm friends with them, not because they share a religion with me, but because of their personal qualities. These "worldly" friends have been better and more genuine friends to me than any JW ever has. Simply because they have no hidden agenda. And if we disagree on something that's ok, we're still friends.
Im afraid I can only take so much. I must move forward and live for me.

8 months DF'd. Loving a life of freedom. However, my family are all shunning me. Yeah, that's to be expected. At first i was going to shun them back and stop my 2yo daughter from visiting them etc. But then i also thought that would make me as bad as the witnesses, and probably just give them more ammo to say how cruel i must be to do that to them.
I send pictures of my little girl to my mum on Whatsap just so she can see what she's missing. Every now and then i send a message saying how i hope they're all ok and "love you lots!" all upbeat etc. I noticed though that the last few pics i've sent have been delivered but not read. I thought nothing of it thinking maybe she hasnt been on whatsap for a while.
Anyway, my brother who is studying calls me every now and then. He calls me in secret because he's been warned by the elders that im mentally diseased and "the truth is not in him". But he calls anyway because he's lonely. He tries to reason with me on "the truth" and i counter his arguments with "the truth about the truth" and he's become aware of the flip, flop doctrine but excuses it. He let slip on the phone yesterday that my mum has blocked my number because im being cruel by taunting her with pictures of my daughter, and trying to use it as a handle to make her disobey Jehovah and talk to me. She's also telling non JW's that im dead. She gets a lot of sympathy from them about it. The JW's in her congregation know she means "spiritually dead" and, again, give her a lot of sympathy. Her elders told her that im "causing the family suffering, a clear sign how leaving Jehovah breaks up families". She's also destroyed all photo's of me (including baby photos).
This is beyond what i ever imagined as far as shunning goes. It's upsetting but also makes me more determined to wash my hands of them all. Why should i spare a thought and share love with them when they do this?
