Funny thing is, if you believed these things now you'd be disfellowshipped... even though Jesus apparently chose these teachings himself.

Finished Mystery (1917)... The book that Jesus approved...
by Alfred inso a few months ago, a friend sent me an actual copy of finished mystery which was published in 1917 (not a pdf download... the actual book).
i must say, this was the most disturbing book i have ever had the displeasure of reading.
but i only read it because this was the main publication that was being distributed worldwide when jesus supposedly chose the watchtower in 1918 and i basically wanted to see for myself what jesus saw in the wt that would compel him to choose this religious corporation over all other religious denominations.. anyway, if anyone is interested in knowing the actual contents of this book, here are some bullet points i put together from some of the notes i took as i read the book:.

What has been your own personal experience of shunning?
by UnshackleTheChains ini am interested in finding out on a small scale the extent of which shunning has impacted on you personally.. my own experience is that when i faded about 12 years ago.
the woman whose house the book study was held at (and who was virtually a neighbour) walked right past me in my own street.
i remember it so well.

I hardly seen my family anyway but it still sucks that they have nothing to do with me. My mum tells people I'm dead, one of my sisters spreads rumours about why I was DF'd (everything from adultary to worshipping Satan).
The flip side is I really enjoy making JWs squirm when they see me. One time I was with my daughter and they completely blanked me but said hello to her. So I said out loud "hey look, they're pretending they can't see me! Aren't they idiots? That's what cults do!"
They heard THAT I can tell you.

2017 Circuit Assembly: Lesbians at school demonstration
by darkspilver insteve2: is there some way this can be presented so that it is crystal clear what was actually in the demonstrations and what was added?
i guess some will think it should be obvious - but this is where misunderstandings arise because we end up wrongly attributing something to jw organization that was never said.. circuit assembly theme: maintain love for jehovah!.
note to speaker: warmly encourage young ones to prove their friendship with jehovah by observing his commandments and defending his standards.

There's definitely a sense of panic as the JW's hemorrhage members. You only have to take a look at how the theme of the conventions has suddenly changed from appealing to witnesses AND non witnesses to just witnesses (they really love those exclamation marks don't they?):
2007: Follow The Christ
2008: Guided By Gods Spirit
2009: Keep On The Watch!
2010: Remain Close To Jehovah!
2011: Let Gods Kingdom Come!
2012: Safeguard Your Heart!
2013: Gods Word Is Truth!
2014: Keep Seeking First Gods Kingdom!
2015: Imitate Jesus
2016: Remain Loyal To Jehovah!
2017: Don't Give Up!

Geoffrey Jackson 2006 Convention Talk - Keep In Expectation As Jehovahs Day Draws Near
by pale.emperor intwo ironys here... first of all the title "keep in expectation as jehovahs day draws near" - (this talk is from 2006!!
) i suppose 11 years isnt near enough.
second is that geoffrey jackson, of all people, is giving a talk that goes on and on about liars and how jehovah never lies.

UK TV Drama: Doctors - A Question of Faith
by darkspilver ini tried posting this yesterday morning - but it seemed to hand on 'queued for processing' - it's been 24 hours now and it hasn't appeared yet, so i'm posting again..... wednesday's episode of bbc tv's long running daily late-lunch drama/soap 'doctors' was centred on a jw-related 'blood' story - looking at the knock-on effect three years.. they don't mention jw, just god.
they've also taken a number of liberties in order to make the story work (sister giving out personal mobile number to man, making 'return visit' on man by herself etc.
the time frame for the story is also really only a few hours) - but it's an interesting twist on the usual portrayal as it looks at the knock-on effect three years.. you can watch it in full on the bbc webste via ipayer for the next couple of weeks.. wednesday 1 february 2017 - bbc one tv 1.45pm - doctors: a question of faith.

Watchtower No.3 2017 - The Four Horesmen
by pale.emperor inthis is the first time i've read through a watchtower magazine in about a year.
although i've been our only 8 months it really git me how crazy i must have sounded when i was a jw talking to non jws.. while other bible based religions talk about the 4 horsemen and back up their theories with other scriptures or historical evidence, the watchtower have taken so such steps.
1914 is thrown in there as if it's universally agreed that jesus started ruling since then.. even when i was a jw i never really understood why, if the pale horse represents jesus, why is he first?

What have been some of the funniest local needs talks that you have heard?
by DaPriest ini remember once in berlin south germany there was a local needs part for the men only, and how they should use the toilet.
in all seriousness for ten minutes a retarded nigerian was going on about how men need to sit down when using the toilet.
no mention of anything else.. it transpired that some little kraut boy from an "interested" family would aim for the side of the toilet and leave a great big puddle for others to clean up.

Three i remember:
1 - "Lord Of The Rings... if you only knew, brothers, the satanism and demonic influence that is rife in that movie".
2 - "There's a popular band out there called Oasis. They swear on stage, the spit on stage... they're not for christians brothers. Why not listen to our Kingdom songs instead?"
(While we're on the subject, they're not supposed to openly name movies or bands are they?)
3 - One C.O. tried to ban the brothers from going to pubs. Liking them to a cesspit of immorality and akin to Sodom and Gomorrah. (I dont know what pubs he's been to but I'd love to go there!) Needless to say, the majority of the congregation thought he was a total nut and took no notice. Even the elders thought he was crazy. There were a few sisters that thought he was "the best speaker ever" and took supported his pub ban.

About 6 months ago I really did stop allowing my daughter to visit. This was when she suggested I "drop her off at the front gate and stand at the bottom of the road while I get her" then repeat the charade when I collect her later that day. That was the final straw. I told her I didn't want my daughter to form a bond with someone who might totally disown her in the future if she ever doesn't want to be a JW. My mum was hysterical. Claimed it was Satan using me as a tool.
A few weeks after that I relented because I wanted my daughter to know her cousins who are the same age. And they're always at my mums place.
