How much do you think the internet has hurt JW growth?

the internet is what helped bring me and so many others out of this evil organization or at least confirmed our doubts.

i have to say, i have seen quite a few youtube videos recently of ex jw's secretly recording their interactions inside of different congregations, halls, etc and see how empty the halls are!

so many people comment on how the attendance is so low, far more emptier than when i was in 6 years ago, even on a weekday meeting.

I always remember a demo in a district convention in Manchester about 10 years ago. The demo consisted of a brother on his laptop, thinking out loud like they always do in these demos.

"What was it that man said on the ministry? I'll check it out on the internet... <click, click, click> what's this? "The truth Jehovah's Witnesses?" GASP!!! This is an apostate website!!" he promptly shuts the laptop down and reports himself to the elders.

I shit you not.

I remember it because i thought it was quite excessive even then.

Free to sin but still cannot bring myself to do it

have da'd myself nearly 3 months ago.

now i am part of this world but i feel myself the odd one out.

something inside me is still blocking me to do the things i have been longing to do while i was still a jw, such as attending birthday parties, sex, etc.... just last nite, i was on the way to attend a birthday party.

sinboi, this is quite normal for born-ins. Some seem to fade out and slip into "the world" with ease, others (usually the more sincere and more devoted) it takes time to adjust to the real world. I myself was born in, a true believer. When i did commit a "sin" by JW standards i felt that was it, im toast at armageddon. And wouldn't turn myself into elders because i didn't trust them.

My advice is just live your life on your terms. If you dont want to do birthdays or xmas then dont. I still haven't done xmas and im 15 months out. This xmas coming up i will but because my little girl will enjoy it. Personally i dont see the appeal of it because i've never had it.

Maybe you could ease yourself into the birthday thing by sending a birthday card or giving a present? What i found helpful was looking at the real reasons why Watchtower condemns certain things. 99.99% of the time it's for control and make you feel less of a person and more of a drone. Rutherford kept getting invited to birthday parties and he, personally, didn't like going to them... so he banned them.

As regards to sex, lets me very honest here... male and female in every animal and species have sex. There's no wedding, no ceremony - they mate. It's natural. It's normal. It's fun. It's fun because you're DNA is programmed with a drive to replicate, because if you didnt replicate the race would die out. This whole idea of sex before marriage being a sin is man made.

Dont feel you need to rush anything. Enjoy your freedom and remember that there's no big scary man up there. And even if there is he's quite the psychopath anyway so i enjoy pissing him off.

As I said, it's great that they've let her move back in. But it's taken a week for them to make their move. They knew she was in hospital from the start but it took until today for them to help her.

After reading the WT directives above I reckon her dad has done some research as to what he can/can't do. Good on him but still, it's a sad state of affairs indeed.

Long story short, a friend of mine around the same age as me is DF'd. She's from another city. We met up a few months ago with other exJWs. She seemed happy and in a new relationship. I found out this week that she was hospitalized. Her boyfriend (a non witness) was beating her. This time he broke her jaw, a few ribs and stabbed her in the leg. She was hospital and the guy has been arrested.

Being DF'd her family were having nothing to do with her. Even through this. I was really worried for her mental state because when i spoke to her on the phone she was over the top happy to speak to me, would laugh at things i said even though i wasnt being funny, and kept asking me what church i go to and what church she should go to (im an atheist). Her dad is co-ordinator of the BOE and she told me today that (1 week after this ordeal) they've finally spoke to her and he dad is letting her move in to the family home but not saying anything to the BOE.

Dont get me wrong this is good news. But my worry is, will they make her attend meetings? Will she fall back into the cult for acceptance and being told what to do? She's clearly seeking guidance. What's Watchtowers stance on this if it gets out? Would her dad have to step down as an elder?

Well as you know, while being disassociated you'll be treated exactly the same as a disfellowshipped person.

If you get re-instated you'll be "welcomed" back to the "loving" congregation.

Of course it'll be all fake and superficial. Do what you think is best.

Faces on TV Broadcasting

i agree that being photogenic is not given to every ordinary mortal.

but when at the beginning of every new month i am confronted with the various faces of those males showing off as a priority on tv-jw (see jw broadcating september 2017), i am asking myself if i honestly am faced with normal people, or with people who went mental already since ages ago.. is it maybe due to the fact that the majority of them already do not feel anymore like belonging to ordinary mortals ?

What Type of Elder Body Did You Have?

i was an elder in two different congregations and both were conservative and strict, especially congregation number one.

it was headed by a former branch servant as they were called back then.

all elders were by the book.

The Gardiner - A no bullshit, straight talking, old school elder. This guys swears as part of his normal vocabulary but for some reason was never taken to task over it. Unapproachable, unlikable and would think nothing of telling your wife and kids off in front of you.

The Other Gardiner -The wealthy elder that disobeyed the GB by going to University in the 1990s and managed to have a good career lecturing/teaching botany. Now retired from that he's a Gardiner but doesn't really need to work at all. He's in "the clique".

The Bus Driver - Woahfully uneducated in other religions, nice enough man and more down to earth than most elders. He's best friends with The Poser (below) and is in "the clique".

The Poser - Sure, his wife is clinically depressed, but his young kids are super well behaved at meetings and conventions (staring forward at all times, WT studied, pads full of notes, must be seated by the time music starts). This guy is the center of "the clique". From personal experience i've been at a dinner table with this guy, the bus driver and the other Gardiner and they've laughed and talked about JCs they've been on. Shared all the details with the table. He's a dick.

The Window Washer -Fresh out of Bethel. He's one of those rare finds that converted to JW-ism in his teens and is naive to how The Borg actually doesnt have anyone elses best interests at heart. Nice guy, but he's in "the clique" so no chance of you two becoming friends.

The Teacher - This one actually had been to university and taught sign language at a deaf school. Nice enough bloke. In "the clique" because he's young and his wife is hot.
