My Fellow Elders and other Animals
by Lostandfound inpart 1 of some memories.
i was an elder in the cong and had a young family and a demanding job about an hours drive away.
i suppose most elder bodies had vocal passengers and some workers, literally pne elder could explain in detail how to claim benefits rather than work so you would think with no job ties he could have all the time in the world to help...wrong!.

Thanks for sharing. What a sad story about that brother. Looking forward to more about this and your memories in general. -

How do I handle this situation?
by BarelyThere inhey everyone.
i'm sorry that this isn't a very thought provoking post but i could really use some advice on how to handle this.
there isn't anyone else in my life i can ask right now because, being dfed, all of my friends are "worldly" and don't know how witnesses function.

Cangie, your advice is spot on. Good for you getting out of this monstrosity of a cult. Hugs to you and your son. -

Having Jehovah as a friend.
by Darkknight757 ini've always found it amazing that people can say with such conviction that jehovah is their friend.. we are talking about a "friend" who perhaps daily "tests" us to see if we are his friends.
all of us have dealt with some form of hardship such as the death of a loved one, chronic illness or whatever.
it is in these cases that the brothers will tell a person that perhaps it is a test, or that "jehovah knows you're not ready" or some other lame excuse.. do our real friends "test" us to see if we will be loyal to them?

The whole friend thing is to emphasize to the r&f that they can't be children of God and heirs with Christ but they can be god's friend like Abraham...or some such nonsense.
Most people outgrow having an imaginary friend, but not the JWs who relegate God to a mere buddy or pal. Let's be honest, they really worship the org. That's their God.

How do you feel about the expression "The Truth"?
by stuckinarut2 init's amazing how the expression "the truth" has become such an ingrained term used by witnesses.. "we have 'the truth'".
"is he 'in the truth'?".
most here have found out so many facts about the organisation, and felt the effects of being "gut-punched" as we realised these facts.. so how do you feel about the expression "the truth" now?.

Gag! I try to not use the term at all. Every time I think "the truth" I get a little angry and think, "yeah, right!" -

If you are working towards reinstatement than it couldn't hurt to meet with your elders and express concerns over the attitude of the congregation should you become reinstated. You do not have to "out" yourself that you were browsing through private messages. You can simply state that you have picked up on tidbits of gossip from here or there and are worried you will not be accepted into the congregation once reinstated. Come from a place of asking for their help, and try to see if you can get a couple of the elders to support you. Also, stay proactive about it, and once reinstated, be sure to ask for a sheparding call to follow up on how you are getting along. If there is a problem, they may have to bring it out in local needs or counsel the people still shunning you.
Every congregation is different and it is hard to say what yours is like. It is typical for JWs to take sides on an issue that is none of their business. Although, I can honestly say that I doubt the whole congregation will shun you once you are reinstated. There are several reinstated ones in my congregation that have committed adultery and some have done it more than once. Unless you know their story you would really never know. They aren't treated any differently. Again, all congregations are different, and in the end you may find switching to a new one is really best.
Im sorry you are going through this craziness. I personally don't know if I could or would go back to them if it were me, but, no judgement here. We all have our reasons.

My Bthel Experince Part 19 The Last Chapter..(really) Bethel Overseers
by new boy inthere were other people who either killed themselves or tried to kill themselves while they were at "the house of god.
one person who did kill himself was richard wheelock, press room overseer ......he jumped out of a window at the watchtower farm one day.
it seemed, he was never quite the same after his wife "willy" died.

Damn it new boy! This one really can't be your last, can it? Have you been to Brooklyn lately? I'd be interested to know what Brooklyn was like in the 70's compared to today. Bet there were more mom and pop restaurants and shops. Anything you miss about the area in general? -

Even the Overlapping Generations isn't an original concept
by paradisebeauty into my surprise, i found this: .
the overlapping generations model is an economic model .... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/overlapping_generations_model.
if those people from wt are inspired, why can't they at least come up with something original .....

MY Bethel Experience Part 17
by new boy inmore "odds and ends".
i liked lyman swingle (governing body member)......he was from alabama, he knew how to curse at the right time.
i think, that’s why i went to him, when i was having so much trouble with my future wife’s parents.

I heard that one of the apostates that protested regularly was hit and killed by a jw delivery truck outside one of the buildings. Was in the 90's. Of course it was an "accident"...
