It hurts so bad because it is emotional abuse. It is an indefinite "silent treatment" as if one is dead. All people should object to it because it far exceeds reasonable punishment. There is never love involved in abuse. There is never an excuse or reason good enough to do this. The people who practice this form of abuse are under the influence of a dangerous cult. It is up to people who know the truth about this cult to get the word out regarding this inhumane practice.

Why is it so hurtful to be shunned? Why object to it?
by stuckinarut2 init seems like many feel hurt or saddened by the practice of shunning by witnesses.. yes, when ones who we were close to, perhaps family or ones we thought were close friends choose to follow the warped directions of the society, it may seem hurtful.. but really, our reaction is up to us.
the fact is, these ones have shown that in reality, their love for us was never real or genuine.
no, those relationships were superficial and lacking in substance.

I say good for you PaleE on reading the Bible with your WT goggles off. It helped me quite a bit to do this for myself.

PaleE, so sorry to hear you're feeling blue. You know, you have been through a lot lately. Lost your family all at once. That is not easy on anyone-- Dub or non. I don't know you, but your story has touched my heart. Keep telling your story, and try to make a lot of friends too. Do whatever it takes. For example I temporarily joined a church group for some exposure to people who would be interested in me and my story. It was an awesome experience, and I still have really good friends from it to this day. If church isn't your thing, there are other groups you can join too. Give yourself permission to be free of guilt and to focus just on you. Find out who you really are and what you love and enjoy. I am sure you will find your niche in this world. You've already inspired me just by posting on this forum. All the best.

Anxiety diagnosis for me too. I'm not on meds though. Just talking to my counsellor does wonders for me.

Got my JC cancelled... (at least for now)
by Sanchy inso my wife and i have been in the process of fading for a few months now as per my original post here.
about a week ago, i was browsing some ex-jw facebook groups when i saw a post that linked to the crisis of conscience book.
i said "f@(k it" and hit share on it.. a few hours later, i get a long text letter from my mom (who was a fb friend of mine) telling me the typical "good luck finding friends in the world" and how we have "nothing in common anymore"; basically, it was a 'farewell' text.

Yet another reason why I loathe social media. Its just another way for the elders to monitor my every move and for the "friends" to judge me as good or bad. Good luck with that Sanchy.

The question no JW can answer without resorting to babbling
by Crabby inlet me ask you only one question.
first i need to clarify a few things.
in the new world translation, john 1:1 reads: “in [the] beginning the word was, and the word was with god, and the word was a god.” then in isaiah 9:6 (nwt) we read: “for there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder.

Crabby I think your argument is on point. I've always wondered why more JW's weren't concerned with the fact that the JW version of John 1:1 is so polytheistic. This is why I believe your reasoning would only work on someone who is doubting the troof because hardcore JWs checks their brain at the door and will only focus on defending the intellectually dishonest WT theology.

Demented, patronizing load of bulls--t this is! Without educated JW engineers and physicians how the heck do they expect to properly construct and maintain their new compound? And what of those bros that already have their higher education? Are they to be looked down on as somehow "less spiritual"? Absolute malarkey to keep people as dumb and ignorant as possible.
I guess their sheeple will follow blindly, and when the big A doesn't strike in a few more decades it will be too late for them to have any sort of retirement or decent quality of life for that matter. I almost feel sorry for them...wait no, no I do not.

Exit therapist
by Beachlover ini am having quite a bit of trouble leaving and fading.
does anyone have recommendations of an exit therapist?
it doesn't matter where they are located, i need to get out physically, mentally, and emotionally.

I am sorry Beachlover, but I don't know anyone who does what you're looking for. Ironically, I was thinking about this today. I was thinking that I would like to embark on a career as a therapist specifically for ex JW's. It seems that there are so few therapists who thoroughly understand the org and the damaging influence it holds over members lives.
