by cedars ini just thought i'd share something if you don't mind.. my conviction in the legitimacy of the society was slowy eroded over a number of years simply by reading the publications and becoming increasingly frustrated at how little the interpretations of prophecy and scripture made sense, added to the complete ineptitude of senior figures in the organisation.. for me, the "glue" that kept everything roughly held together into something that can be called a "faith" was the concept of "increasing light", which as you all know is the principle employed by the society to excuse any mistakes or backtracks that are made.

This was just another religion, and not God's spirit-directed organisation.
If you are looking for God's spirit directed organization, I think I can save you some trouble. That term isn't in the bible. Jehovah doesn't work through organizations. Jesus is saving individuals not religions..... from judgment, not armageddon.
And, it will cost you everything you love to get it. You might as well stay in the org if you arent willing to give up EVERYTHING for Christ.

All christian cults need to establish some sort of authority for the guys at the top. The Catholic faithful come right out and say that the Pope occupies the chair of Peter and is a substitute for Christ. The GB just goes about it in a roundabout way.... but its the same thing.
Christianity survived without an earthly organization even though the full might of heathen Rome and later, the Papal death machine were hurled at it. Untold millions were killed for their faith in Christ, over faith in an organization. It is a remarkable story of history.

In 1999 National Geographic magazine published articles heralding Archaeoraptor as the long awaited (and desperately needed) missing link between dinosaurs and birds. The primary article was entitled: “Feathers for T. rex?” But, in March of 2000 National Geographic reluctantly published the truth about this “fossil.” It was proven by CT scans to be a lizard’s tail glued onto a bird’s body.
As much as we hate to admit it, Humans have little defense against deception from a capable source. God warned us about this because he loves us. He wants us to believe him above all others:

In 18th-century England, Mary Toft convinced doctors she had given birth to 16 rabbits.
A Short Narrative of an Extraordinary Delivery of Rabbets [sic] was written by King George's surgeon about her case. People stopped serving rabbit stew.
Once the hoax was discovered, the medical community suffered great embarrassment...to put it mildly.
Mary Toft's hoax happened in 1726, during the reign of King George I. Mrs. Toft had inserted the parts of several rabbits where no rabbit parts should ever be and summoned the local surgeon, John Howard. She feigned delivery and the astonished Howard was convinced he'd participated in a medical oddity worthy of widespread notification.
Eventually, King George sent his surgeon, Nathanael St. Andre, and Samuel Molyneux, an astronomer and secretary to the Prince of Wales, to investigate. In their interview with Mrs. Toft, she told them that before her misadventure with rabbit births she had had a strong craving for rabbit meat, she often dreamed of rabbits, and spent much time trying to catch them in the garden.
If the King's doctor says it's true, then by golly it must be.

Ok, enough humor. How about this whopper that is still taught as fact:(the imaginary geologic column)

Yet the earth's crust is only about 5 to 6 miles deep in the oceans and 16 to 19 miles deep on the continents.
The fact is that the geologic column as presented in textbooks is a hoax. A fugazi.
So-called "index fossils" are constantly being revised because "200 million yr. old" critters are regularly found running around alive and well.

I am more comfortable by the first system as a way to derive a picture of the world.
And this is what you will filter for. The reality is that real science is just fine. The problem is that much of what gets gets passed off as science is just untested crap. Like this:
Piltdown Man
The Piltdown Man is a famous hoax in which pieces of a skull and jawbone found in 1912 were believed to be the fossilized remains of an early form of human being. The specimen was officially given a latin name (Eoanthropus Dawsoni) after its collector Charles Dawson. In 1953 it was exposed to be a fraud consisting of the jawbone of an orangutan and the skull of a fully developed adult man.
The Piltdown hoax is probably the most famous hoax in history. It has become so well known for two reasons: the attention it brought to the issue of evolution, and the length of time (over 40 years) that it took for anyone to discover it was a fraud.
How many other Scientific "facts" will be exposed as a fraud in the future? The reality is that many are already exposed but political and monetary considerations prevent a full expose'. Thank God for the Internet. It help me to determine that the WT wasn't the sole guardian of truth, and that the same can be said for "science, falsely so-called".
One more important feature about Piltdown Man for American readers. If you look closely at the teeth, you'll see a family trait that is regularly displayed in the television commercial for PCMATIC.COM. The woman in that commercial has this same gene that makes one tooth sparkle. Somehow this trait must have survived because it was beneficial. Amazing.
