  Normal humans move away from pain and discomfort. They also move toward something perceived as beneficial. This is called motivation direction. One repels, one pulls.
  
  Imagining some sort of mass instantaneous masochist indulgence on the part of diverse, previously unconnected people is far more far-fetched than believing they were telling the truth about being eyewitnesses to the miracles and resurrection. Even his enemies conceded that his miracles were real. (hostile witnesses)
  
  Convinced that they had found the solution for death, having witnessed the death and resurrection... they simply saw no downside in telling others about it, since death had no hold on them.

  Why would anyone create a Creator-God whom humbled himself, washed people’s feet, rode a donkey, allowed himself to be spit on, stripped naked, beat beyond recognition, & nailed to a tree until dead... for the express purpose of being displayed in utter humiliation? Why would anyone worship a God like that in the midst of all the powerful, strike-you-down-with-lightening-bolts gods like Zeus to choose from?

  Why would his disciples gladly choose death rather than simply stop talking about him so much? Hmmm, Unless they were eye-witnesses to his miracles and resurrection.

  Time to get real Doug.

  more than 70% of researchers have tried and failed to reproduce another scientist's experiments, and more than half have failed to reproduce their own experiments.

  i didn't know it was so widespread...but it's a big problem in biology/medicine..

  Here is an interesting article on bogus science.

  I am fascinated by those whose lives have been devastated by a cult, who then run toward anything characterized as "science" and swallow the next idea with equal fevor and gullibility.
  

  
  Real science is good stuff, it's just not done nearly as often as we would like and certainly is easily confused with bogus science by most.

  
  In the 20th century, tobacco companies paid millions and receive peer reviewed papers showing scientifically how cigarette smoking was not linked to cancer. We are starting to see the same results oriented studies about marijuana smoking since its regional legalization.

  In a national Barna poll, among teenagers: 83% said that moral truth depends on the circumstances and only 6% said moral truth is absolute.

  In The Closing of the American Mind, Professor Allan Bloom makes the obser­vation that “There is one thing a professor can be absolutely certain of: almost every student entering the university believes or says he believes, that truth is relative…The students, of course, cannot defend their opinion. It is something with which they have been indoctrinated” (p. 25).
  
  Indefensible and illogical non-religious beliefs about the nature of reality has been thoroughly indoctrinated into our society.

  Much more succinctly put than my previous post Morpheus!

  Lots of ideas have inherent falsehoods integrated into their thesis and do not need an empirical apparatus with which to test it.
  
  The statement "nothing is black and white" is either true or false. It cannot be said that some things are black and others are not, and still preserve the thesis.

  So it does sound like at least you are suggesting that some things are "gray" when they appear black or white. So do you also make room for absolutes?

  If you say so. Highlighting the illogicality of denying the usefulness of black and white thinking is beneficial, because I believe logic to be useful.

  We all use use this kind of reason everyday to try and benefit ourselves and improve our circumstances.... all perfectly normal.
  
  As previously pointed out the statement "nothing is black and white" is an inherently false statement, no doubt believed upon in a misguided attempt to improve a persons life in some way.
  
  The question is not whether or not some things are black or white (true of false); but rather which things are so.

  Everyone utilizes black and white thinking to some degree.

  If you step off the roof of a ten story building without something to defy gravity, you will fall to the ground.

  If you are shot through the heart, you will bleed.

  All airplanes in our atmosphere eventually land.

  2 + 2 = 4

  If you do not know the Japanese language, you will not be able to speak it.

  If you don't breathe, you will die.

  The claim “absolute truth does not exist” is either absolutely true or it’s not. But, of course, it can’t be absolutely true, since that would create a contradiction:

  Since it cannot be absolutely true, without making the statement false, we must concede that there are some cases in which the proposition “absolute truth does not exist” must be false…in which case, we’re back to affirming the existence of absolute truth; or as you put it "black and white thinking."

  This is an example of an absolute truth known apart from the empirical and scientific testing.

  i was just sent a link to a jewish scholar that apparently he has found 1,000 manuscripts with yehovah and latest discovery is one with vowels that supports the spelling yehovah.

  WT culture maximizes the laws of God, and minimizes or ignores the fundamental nature of God - Love...much like the 1st Century Rabbis did. There is a clip from the Jesus film that really reminds me of the Watchtower.
