... speaking of snails ... I committed suicide once! And boy! that was enough. Talk about a waste of time.
Pete (getting serious/ or is it simple?)
a simple question for serious jw's:.
according to this sunday's newspaper suppliment a common snail travels at 24 inches/hour (60cm/hr).
i've got snails in my garden and i've just crunched some math on my super scientific pocket calculator.

hello friends,.
in a thread over at witnesses.net entitled "society bracing for law suits" fellow jw's are taking swipes at ray franz.
not too long ago, while i was still under the wt spell i also would have similarily spoken abusively of ray.
Hmmmm larc,
Isn't this a contradiction. You write:
I don't see a we-they status thing like you do.Then you proceed to divide posters into groups -- those who have high credibility, low credibility and those like teejay who are in the middle.
Then you patronizingly tell teejay:
When you start a thread on a serious subject with an in depth analysis, I will put you in the top category.Well, isn't that special!
I don't necessarily agree with teejay -- but isn't that the idea of the board? The freedom to agree and not to agree; to share our similar pasts as JWs? Your response truly gives substance to teejay's argument.
Wishing you the best larc, but still wincing when I recall your slam at teejay about him "driving his truck, listening to bozo radio."

Note to waiting: Pete, pmf -- and PeterStride are not the same.
did anyone who received this wt ,notice that loyalty was only extended to the org, marriage mates and family 'who are believers' the rest of you moms and dads sisters and brothers, etc.
you're out in the cold.. the article is titled,'what does it mean to be loyal?'....
is this damage control?
Hi DB:
I can understand your response, even though I'm an agnostic. Your wrote:
Pete,
I think the comment in the WT was accurate, in that God does provide the earth and
its bounty for man's use. Much of the problem with poverty in third world countries in
attributable to man's own short-sightedness and inadequacy in dealing with such
things.
Yes, humankind, especially those who have power, can be selfish and cruel. But I think it's a non sequitur to say that "god provides for the physical needs of all humankind" -- when it is obvious that s/he doesn't. Even if humankind's greed is to blame -- still, lots of folks are dying from hunger. So, how is god providing?
One more thought on this loyalty thing. The WTBTS has to be one of the most disloyal groups around. People can spend their life slaving for the Org., yet if they question, become depressed, grow old without family, etc. the Society kicks 'em to the curb. Individuals are not important to the Society -- the WORK is what is important.
OK, enough from me.

I was struck by this comment:
"Jehovah also demonstrated loyalty toward mankind in general in that he provides the
basic necessities of life for all men, righteous and unrighteous" - Pg. 21
(Italics theirs)
Have any of them visited a Third World country? An estimated 40,000 children die each day worldwide due to malnutrition and diseases related to it. And how many children are abandoned by impoverished parents in countries like Brazil, India, etc. Children who are exploited and who struggle to live without the protection, care and love of adults?
This "loyalty" thing is not new. It's just another brick in the wall separating JWs from the outside world (including family members) while at the same time insuring that they rely on the GB for all their thinking.

i've always liked the sound of thunder, so when it came last night, it was comforting to me.. when i walked through the bedroom were the wife and daughter were watching tv.
sitting on the wife's lap, the daughter said, "daddy, help me.
i asked what was wrong.
What a great vignette, teejay.
I hope you're taking plenty of photos and videos -- because they grow up so quickly. I'm sure she'll enjoy reading this "moment" later in her life. She'll be grown before you know it!
Kids are fantastic -- especially when they turn out well. My three are grown (20, 23, 24) and they are the most important things in my life.
Give your daughter a hug for me!

personnally, i heard a lot of urban legends about the presence of a devil in a house.
it was always the same kind of story about a devil who lived in a house and then the jw arrive and they pray jehovah and suddendly, the demon go away...
OK, here's my contribution.
1) I can remember in the early ‘70s -- at a service meeting and from the platform -- the presiding overseer relating a story of two sisters who had been in service, and unbeknownst to them, had come to a door of a fortune-telling psychic.
When the psychic realized they were Jehovah’s Witnesses, she asked them "Please tell me why the year 1975 is so important?"
The sisters explained the significance of the year to JWs. Then they asked the psychic why she had asked.
She told them that all of her demon contacts in the netherworld had recently been difficult to access. When she had asked the remaining demons why -- they told her they had to prepare for the cataclysmic year 1975!
2) Another smurf story: While in a car group some sisters were talking about those diabolical smurfs! One sister related that she knew a sister in another congregation that, to her horror, had discovered her children watching the Smurfs cartoon show.
The mother raced to the TV and turned it off and was about to "counsel" her kids about the evil smurfs -- when she realized the cartoon show had been turned on again! She immediately turned it off again and watched the screen. To her terror a little smurf hand came out of the TV screen and turned the it back on.
Horrified, she unplugged the TV and placed an open bible on top of it. Then, she and the kids got on their knees and prayed that Jah remove these demons.
Too funny!
Hey ballistic: apreciated your Stevie Smith quote from "Not Waving but Drowning." Have you seen the Glenda Jackson movie titled "Stevie"?

okay, the men of sodom won't be resurrected, but what about the women and children who were destroyed at that time?
were they found guilty because of the men?.
will pharaoh be resurrected.
Godrules wrote:
All will be resurrected, except those that are executed by Jehovah himself. This is logical, why would he resurrect you if he judged it necessary to destroy you in the first place?
Why is this logical? What you're saying is that people who have died -- yet practiced heinous things while living like murder and torture -- will receive a resurrection. Yet Muslims, Buddhists, Humanists, etc., who live compassionate lives at the time of Armageddon will be destroyed without the possibility of a resurrection. Where is the divine love and justice in this? Sounds like a crap shoot to me.

no, peter, unfortunately -- it's a shot of debra messing from "will & grace.
" i'm not skinny (much more curvaceous than she) but i have the hair (and i'm a natural redhead, thankyouveddymuch).. maybe someday if you all ask nicely, i'll post a real pic... .
reagan posted this in one of the threads, so i figured that if we all ask very nicely then she would post a picture for us to see.
You want Reagan's picture? Here ya' go!

those of us who used to be jws, i have a question for you: why would any of us think revelation has anything to say about the 21st century, or that we are in the last days period?.
when we left the jws, we did so because of their false teachings.
we saw through their faulty reasoning about why we are in the last days.
It took a miracle to bring Israel back to Palestine in '48.
I don't think it was a miracle for the Palestinians.

i wonder what george can possibly be saying to our lizzie?.
englishman.. ..... fanaticism masquerading beneath a cloak of reasoned logic.
Looks like typical G.W. stalling for time or "lost in the bush" behavior. He's probably thinking: "Well ... uh ... here I am in this here foreign country of Britian -- I wonder if they speak American?"
