  Annually, in Scotland approximately 10,000 die, in Wales, 5000, and in N.I. 2300.

  In 2019 in England alone, there were 489,300 admissions to hospital attributable to smoking, and 77,800 died.
  

  These figures have been virtually identical for the past 12 years, give or take 2 - 3 thousand.

  @ half banana - the weakest & most vulnerable were not protected, instead, the fit & healthy were put under house arrest. Absolute lunacy!

  The "leaders" in Scotland, Wales, & N.I. will let the English test the waters for a week or two first, then just follow suit.

  Again, the NHS is presently underwhelmed - but will be overwhelmed when the lockdown ends.

  Just been listening to a BBC Radio 'phone-in programme where people were very disturbed that Covid 19 was stated as the cause of death of a loved one on the death certificate. No virus symptoms - but serious cancer or other conditions.   Sorry to disagree; the restrictions in the UK were not based on PFSE.

  They were based on untested & unchallenged "models" which were sensationalised by Professor Neil (500,000 will die, sorry, 250,000 will die, sorry, 20,000 will die) Ferguson of Imperial College London. His team's "projections" were never published or made subject for peer review. Where is Mr. Ferguson and his punitive models now?

  Boris - Even last night the BBC Newsnight programme stated that the NHS was underwhelmed!

  The real science and abundant medical data is out now. End this charade now.

  Since governments' logic was to quarantine all healthy people in order to suppress the virus, I suggest they don't just put criminals into prisons in future, jail everyone in society - that'll suppress crime.

  BB, it looks like the proposed "testing" will not be done on doorsteps, but actually in homes. We'll soon see, if the proposal becomes law.

  Sadly, I've seen how some individuals have reacted to being assigned "power" to control queues of customers at stores. A bit like JW elders.

  Sweden seems to have survived very well without having to impose house-arrest on its population.

  Swedes have largely been trusted to take personal accountability for their own & others' health & welfare by using common sense. Treated like adults.

  He also says, "'The is the worst interference with personal liberty in our history. For what is by historical standards not a very serious pandemic except for particular categories of vulnerable people who can isolate themselves voluntarily."
