How does a JW know that he/she has a "heavenly hope" (TM) in the first place?
Does God speak to them and tell them this himself?
The GB has admitted that God does not communicate with them (WT February 17, 2017) so does God communicate with JWs to let them know whether they are destined for heaven although he does not communicate with the GB?

While a JW I often wondered why Laban had teraphim or family idols which Rachael stole. There are also other mentions of teraphim in the Bible as household idols with religious significance.
I was also taken aback by the use of urim and thummim by the Israelite Priests – they were just as much into divination and hocus pocus like the nations around them.

If by egalitarian you are referring to the relationship between husband & wife where the husband treats the wife as his equal, I am for that.
But parents must have authority over their children so that relationship can't be egalitarian IMHO.

Except Jesus said nothing about a more egalitarian family structure. He said his followers were unworthy unless they hated their parents and siblings.

If subverting the family structure creates the Essentials for Childhood - assuring, safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments - then I am all for it as long as it does not lead to an adverse environment which can have lasting consequences for children’s mental & physical health and development.
