The Finished Mystery
by Jules Saturn inhey just wanted to ask if anyone here knows where i could find a legit copy of the finished mystery, one of charles taze russell's books if i'm not mistaken?
there's a couple of older brothers and sisters that i know, you think it's a good idea to ask if they have a copy?
i've seen some on amazon and even on ebay but again not entirely sure if they're legit or not.

Now my parents are forcing me to be reinstated as a member again---------Bola
Bola, are you an adult?
In the WT's own words:
Watchtower, Feb 1st, 2012, page 19 in box :
“Witness parents strive to inculcate love for God in their offspring, just as the Bible commands them to. Nevertheless, they realise that WHEN A CHILD BECOMES AN ADULT, HE or SHE WILL MAKE A PERSONAL CHOICE WITH REGARD TO WORSHIP.”

God expresses his perplexity at his own creation
by slimboyfat injust got to share this, zizek at his very best.
explaining how the traditional view of the ransom makes no sense and reverts christianity to paganism where god is subject to a superior notion of justice.
how the injunction from jesus to hate mother, father, brothers and sisters is really a call for a non-hierarchical society, of which the holy spirit is a symbol.

SBF,
If by egalitarian you are referring to the relationship between husband & wife where the husband treats the wife as his equal, I am for that.
But parents must have authority over their children so that relationship can't be egalitarian IMHO.

Capitalism has been highly disruptive of family structures------SBF redacted
Agreed. It is said that the hunter-gatherers provided (Pygmies still exist) the best supportive environment for families to thrive.

Except Jesus said nothing about a more egalitarian family structure. He said his followers were unworthy unless they hated their parents and siblings.
This of course is deeply embarrasing so theologians like Zizek make up bullshit influenced by communist ideology-------CoftyEverybody reinterprets Jesus' sayings to make him not look like the cult leader that he was. The truth is, Jesus was anti-family: https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5768031571542016/jesus-christ-anti-family
He was not a supporter of family values - Jesus, his disciples, nuns, monks, Catholic priests and the Shakers (who are now extinct) all demonstrate exactly what Jesus meant when it comes to family by the way they live(d) their lives.

Ruby456,
If subverting the family structure creates the Essentials for Childhood - assuring, safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments - then I am all for it as long as it does not lead to an adverse environment which can have lasting consequences for children’s mental & physical health and development.

I think Zizek is saying that the subversion of family structure opens the way for egalitarian and non-hierarchical forms of relationship ----------SBF
Subverting the family structure can have wide-ranging health and social consequences for children.
Children need assuring, safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments. These essentials for childhood can have a positive impact on a broad range of health problems and on the development of skills that will help children reach their full potential:
https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/acestudy/about_ace.html
Adverse environments early in life have lasting consequences for children’s health and development:
http://www.apa.org/science/about/psa/2017/04/adverse-childhood.aspx
A child’s “family, social, and community assets” were critical to helping him or her thrive despite challenges:
http://bigthink.com/stefani-cox/adverse-childhood-experiences-can-be-overcome-with-help.amp
Children need attachment and nurturing relationships, family who listen and respond patiently to them in a supportive way, and pay attention to their physical and emotional needs.

Solomon's gold mines called a myth but there's one so-called prophecy that always makes me stop and think
by Isambard Crater inthe authenticity of the old testament account of solomon is being called into question in the news media:.
http://www.christianpost.com/news/king-solomons-fabulous-hidden-gold-mines-are-a-myth-historian-says-194663/.
for the most-part, i don't really want to believe the bible as true, certainly not the j.w version including their stubbornness over 607 and 1914. but there's one prophecy that always makes me stop and wonder if maybe some of the bible was inspired by god, if he or she exists.

.........CONT'D:
5. There is nothing in Daniel's prophecies that can be reasonably construed as visions about the Roman Empire. Such an interpretation would have required a fifth kingdom or empire, which was nowhere indicated in Daniel's prophecies. Christians have read into Daniel's vision what they want to see, that is, references to the Roman Empire. WORLD EVENTS MEAN NOTHING:

http://web.archive.org/web/20061112080821/http://www.theskepticalreview.com/JFTBobbyOlivet8.html
6. Daniel did NOT prophesy about the second coming of Jesus and his kingdom. WORLD EVENTS MEAN NOTHING:
http://web.archive.org/web/20061112080821/http://www.theskepticalreview.com/JFTBobbyOlivet8.html
7. If the author(s) could have accurately predicted the future after 164 BCE, he would have prophesied some additional earthly empires that controlled Palestine:
- The Roman Empire (from 63 BCE)
- Byzantine Empire (from 313 CE)
- Arab conquest; control of Palestine by Muslim groups (from 636 CE)
- Christian Crusaders from Europe (from 1099 CE)
- Mamluks under Saladin reinstate Muslim rule (from 1291 CE)
- Ottoman rule (from 1517 CE)
- British Empire rule (from 1917 CE)
- The State of Israel (1948 CE to the present time)
From the time of Daniel to the present day, Palestine has been controlled by 11 foreign empires until Israel finally attained independence in 1948 CE. The author(s) of the book of Daniel, apparently writing about 166 CE, failed miserably to predict his or her future.
http://www.religioustolerance.org/daniel1.htm
8. Daniel 12, the final chapter, is not a prediction about a future end of history:
In the final chapter of Daniel, the author describes the "end of history" - a resurrection of the dead, judgment and transfer the resurrected dead to heaven or hell. According to Daniel 12:12, these events would happen during approximately three years following the "abomination of desolation" (the erection of a statue of Zeus in the Jewish temple in 167 BCE).
Some Bible scholars have interpreted this period of time as occupying many millennia. But this is clearly not a valid interpretation, because Daniel 12:12 refers to people who "wait and live to see the completion of the interval." That would have happened between 167 and 170 BCE. It clearly did not. The people who "wait and live to see the completion of the interval" died long ago and none of the predicted events have taken place.
http://www.religioustolerance.org/daniel1.htm
9. With the exception of some earlier strands, the book of Daniel was written in the 2nd century BC by someone who forged it as the work of a 6th-century BC Jewish official in the Babylonian and Persian governments in order to encourage his contemporaries involved in the Maccabean conflicts to believe that a prophet had predicted centuries earlier that they would prevail against the oppressions of the Seleucid king Antiochus Epiphanes.
In order to encourage his 2nd-century readers to believe that the Jews would prevail over their oppressors and at long last receive the never-ending kingdom they had been promised, "Daniel" prophesied after the fact in order to make his contemporaries think that a 6th-century BC Jewish official in the Babylonian government had foreseen a reversal of the fortunes that had brought to power four kingdoms that had oppressed the Jews and that that reversal of fortunes was going to result in their finally receiving the everlasting kingdom that their prophets had spoken about.
