What would the world be like if everyone applied the words of the lesson, Jesus' counsel to love one's neighbor? -

Sorrow is defined as deep distress, which is a choice we sometimes make when we hold to an emotion which could pass if we allow it. To not feel the passing of a creature we are fond of would be robotic, to suffer over the inevitable would be unnecessary. I simply believe there will be a middle ground. God is described as being able to be saddened, to feel regret, etc. but he doesn't suffer.
If perfection meant 'no emotional range' it would stand to reason God would have none. I believe it will mean 'psychologically healthy.'

Hi… thank you for your ‘friendly, tolerant, and informative’ comments. I will admit you have been coming through with what I actually expected, which is different from what the board purports to provide.
But that’s okay.
The OP misrepresented the tone and content of the article. I was in a position to be able to shed light on the actual tone and content of the article. If I am not allowed to do this, perhaps the board administrator needs to take the word ‘current’ out of the welcoming statements.

Here’s my take.
We’ll always have emotions, even the ones we term ‘negative.'
However, emotion and suffering are not the same.
You can only suffer by continuing to tell yourself a ‘story’ about how a certain thing should not have happened, how terrible it is, how you’ll never get over it, etc.
No negative mind chatter, no suffering.
I think the saying that encompasses it goes like this, ‘pain is inevitable, misery is optional.'
So we’ll experience the gamut of human feelings, but we’ll have learned to reframe them in emotionally healthy ways, to not ‘attach’ unhealthily and to be able to ‘let go’ when the situation calls for it.

In the paragraphs, there is instruction to be just like Jesus who didn’t revile when reviled, etc. It’s completely in harmony with Jesus.
That’s really the whole point of the article. The paragraph setting out three categories of ‘neighbor’ was sort of an intro, as it then went on to detail in the article how to show love in marriage (with the nearest neighbor) how to show love in the spiritual family, and how to show love to those in the ministry.
It’s not accurate to say they were trying to redefine the term ‘neighbor.’ And nothing in the article after that ‘setting up’ paragraph went on to exclude anyone in the human family as one’s neighbor, nothing at all.
There was nothing but good instruction on how to be loving others as oneself. The article did not discuss what keeps getting brought up, disfellowshipping, but there has already been counsel that if a disfellowshipped person is in need, that his need isn’t to be ignored, so you can’t claim that df persons are being labeled ‘non-neighbor,’ it isn’t true. Not in this article, not anywhere.
And I am a previously disfellowshipped person, and yes, the intention of DF is loving. Not short term, make you comfortable, but long term, save your life loving.

In order to learn to better imitate Jesus, we discussed doing this with different groups, including those hostile to us, and responding positively if they were in need. "Show neighbor love when they are in need," was the 'guideline' given.. (paragraph 20) Always Show Love To Others was a subheading.
Fascinating that such positive material is being so thoroughly trashed, even by some who haven't even read it.

In our view, offering Bible teachings is helping people, wherever one does it. As for the snow shovelers, my personal ‘fix’ would be to stop and say, ‘I could come help you later with that if you will allow me’ and go on to my meeting. I can’t shovel in a dress anyway.
Ya’ll are taking exception to instruction to ‘love one’s neighbor as oneself,’ you get that, right? Everyone at my Hall understood the three categories to mean ‘everyone.’
And of course your mate is your nearest neighbor, because this was dealing with human relationships and showing love and mercy in them. Your mate is your nearest relationship, so the nearest person who can benefit from your care bestowed on them.

I’ll say it again, it covers anyone you might meet in the ministry, which means everyone, because anyone you meet anywhere is someone you could meet in the ministry.
The point of Jesus’ parable was that anyone who could benefit from your love and mercy is your neighbor. Well, your marriage mate definitely can benefit from your love and mercy, as can your family, so they are your neighbors. Then the whole human family was included in the last category, as all others can benefit from your love and mercy.
Interesting how such a beautiful teaching from the lesson yesterday is being criticized.
Strict guidelines? the guideline was to love the people you have dealings with, your neighbors.

Gems From the WT
by Slidin Fast injust noticed this gem of a definition in the current (no 1) wt.
"lying.
saying something false to someone who is entitled to know the truth.".

So if murderous robbers were in your house, and you had hidden your young children, you would tell the truth about their location if asked?
Granted, one needs to be quite discerning to know when to apply the idea of ‘misdirection that would meet with God’s approval,’ but surely anyone with discernment can see that such a thing would exist.

I for one appreciate it, it is so hard to not clap when someone is reinstated. It isn’t a huge deal but shows that the brothers are not inflexible.
