I have the Revelation Book and a a few Bibles and Reasoning Books in French. I look at the Revelation Book when I need to be reminded how freakish the JW beliefs are.

I remember conventions in Providence and the women there would always grab seats, saved or not. Later we had to go to the Coliseum in New Haven and the attendants started roping off areas so we all had to sit together down in the front rows.

This happened in my old congregation; elder worked and did WTBS duties, wife cheated with his study. She married the study she cheated with but they ended up getting divorced too. The study was husband number 3 or 4.

I think many of you will return to the religion one day
by free2beme ini don't mean this as an insult, more of a life experience thing.
i saw a lot of people leave in my years there and a lot were angry with the religion and the people, and some even protested the kingdom halls and wrote things in the newspapers.
a lot though, came back in time, as it was just the comfort zone they felt at ease in.

I wouldn't go back for anything. The WTS has nothing to offer me but misery and self loathing.

Emergencies: What Do They Hope To Do?
by metatron insome congregations are giving publishers lists of items and procedures for unnamed emergencies.. and what do these naive people, bereft of critical reasoning, hope to accomplish?
are they fantasizing about living, enmasse, in the kingdom hall?
do they have large food supplies stored there?

We used to be admonished from the podium to get along because we may have to share a jail cell with another witness when the beast turned on the harlot. I remember being worried that my Dad and my real brother and sister woud turn my mom and me in to the police. This disaster plan is another scare tactic. I'd stock up silver, booze and Spam - things you won't find in a JW survival plan.

Introduction / My story
by theBGB inhello all, i've just discovered this site and i cant begin to describe how happy i am to have come across it.
i stumbled across this site purely by accident...seriously i was looking at arkham city walkthoughs and a few jumps later i end up here.
i though it was a legit society page at first and thought 'what the hell, this will be good for a laugh', but after reading a few posts well...i couldnt stop reading.

I went to the Watchtower Study with the "Selma and Steve" article today, and....
by cedars inno, i didn't really - but i'm anxious to hear from anyone who did!!.
what happened after the paragraph was read?
did anyone try to denounce abusing one's spouse under any circumstances, or were most answers supportive of the "advice" given to selma, i.e.

Morbid - I was probably marked becuase when I was in and married I refused to take my ex husband's name. The elders insisted on calling me by his name and they insisted I fill out my reports with his name. I stopped commenting at meetings and filling out reports. When I was aksed why, I told them my name and that if they couldn't accept me by that name then I wasn't going to fill out reports and answer to someone else's name.

How many have gotten interested in Human Services, Charity, Social Justice, Social Work and the like after awakening to Watchtower aberrance?
by Fernando inwhilst under watchtower influence i had little interest or awareness in these areas.. now they have become a passion.. i wonder if it has something to do with the "cult identity or self" versus the "authentic identity or self" as outlined by steven hassan in the "interacting with dual identities" chapter of his book "releasing the bonds - empowering people to think for themselves".. who has had a similar experience and/or change of career related to unplugging from the watchtower?.
or a story to tell?.

I became a teacher. I help my students learn to think critically so they won't be duped. I also help oraganize coat drives and charities that help children and families. Something I was not able to do as a Witness.

Many of the elders in my former congregation were inept, irresponsible and dogmatic. They reached out to beome elders because they could never make it in the real world. Only in a twisted, backward, misogynistic religion could they acheive the power and prominence they crave.
