How did you find Jehovah's Witness meetings?
by Vanderhoven7 ini personally have only attended a handful of meetings at kingdom halls.
i did not enjoy any of them nor was i impressed by anything that was conveyed.
perhaps others did not find them boring as i did.. nadia viotto has this to say about her experience.

As a small child, I found them long. My parents sometimes would ask questions on the way home to see if we had been listening. I usually found it difficult to answer. My father usually wasn't pleased. In my early teens, I felt I didn't understand it, everyone was smarter than me, In my late teens I felt God had a gun to my head. In my very late teens and early twenties, I bought a workmate to some meetings and I felt how good the meetings were sitting there with him, I felt impressed by the meetings. In my twenties and thirties, I came home from meetings and spent most nights awake, I was irritated by so much.
I returned some years after I left, and found the meetings to be tedious and boring, I could have been at a meeting in the early 1960's. It was so old.
As a sum total, I suppose they were good. I doubt I would be a Christian if I hadn't been raised as I was

The "Trinity" is not Biblical.
by Revealed insimple.. you cannot find the word there (or many of the comical variations such as: a triune godhead, the triunity, co-equal god beings, godhead, a hypostaic union, divine essences, divine natures, a god-the-son, a god-the-ghost, hypostasis, homoousios, perichoresis , a godman, omnipresence, incarnation, a god who is a sacred mystery, a god 'in three persons', dual natures, a reincarnate god, a first person of the trinity, a second person of the trinity, a third person of the trinity, godness, a tri-unity or a multipersonal god), or any of the so-mentioned aspects.. jehovah identified himself (not 'themselves") as on one god, as did jesus and all the prophets.
.
so, come, let us know of the simple twists of the clergy!.

About 8 years after I had left the JW I had a conversation with one of my children regarding the trinity. A school friend had been talking to my child, they were baptists, and although I disagreed with JW on many things I thought they were right about the trinity, and I explained the reasons why to my child. I felt strongly about the subject.
I think it was a couple of years later, it may have been four, an elder who regularly called on me came one Saturday morning and we had a discussion about the trinity, this was due to a subject in one of the magazines he left me, the discussion led to the trinity. It was after that discussion that I saw the subject from a totally different perspective. I could no longer agree with the JW
It was the elder that changed my viewpoint. (He was arguing against the trinity)

Do You Still Easily Believe Everything?
by minimus into be a witness you had to accept whatever spiritual food was being dished out.
even if it didn’t make any sense, we were expected to believe.
now that we are out of the cult, do you find yourself a person who doesn’t just accept the status quo?

Do I easily believe everything? No. I don't think I ever did.
When I was raised as a JW I came to believe 1914 as a significant date and 1919. Having accepted the faithful and discreet slave and that they were commissioned, appointed, etc. When I read something in the bible and saw it differently, I accepted that they were right and I must be wrong. I accepted the explanation on the basis of who they are according to that belief.
I am the same person I always was. No. I don't easily believe everything, never have.

1969 "fact": You will never grow old in this present system of things
by Ding inawake!
"if you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things.
because all the evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years... therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers.

Thank you LongHairGal for your comments and explanation.
In the comment in my first post on this thread, I don't feel that I was labeling anyone.
'I also think that it affected people who had faith in God and his word more than those who had weak faith, their lives were adversely affected. At least some I know were.'
As suggested by Romans 14, there are people who have weak faith and the expression isn't necessarily a JW term. In 1Timothy 4:12 it talks of being an example in faith. This suggests I think that some are models in regard to faith.
As far as not being a JW. I left 25 years ago after I invited the elders to my house and explained my views and parted amicably.

"Therefore, I gave the religion my all, not making any preparations for the future, etc"
I don't like to quote from the Watchtower. However, I feel that your comment above was probably due to your faith.
Watchtower September 1st 1969 page 532.
'Jehovah has made many promises of things yet to occur, One may hope that such things will come to pass, but such expression may only be a whimsical wish, not real faith. Faith is more than just an expectation. It is expectation that is assured to such a degree that it is able to support , uphold and guarantee that what is hoped for will become a reality. This is the meaning of hypostasis, a word common in ancient papyrus business documents in reference to guarantees placed on the transactions.
...Substantially the words [hy.po’sta.sis and e’leg.khos] mean that faith gives to things future, which as yet are only hoped for, all the reality of actual present existence,; and irresistibly convinces us of the reality of things unseen and brings us into their presence.” The Expositor’s Greek Testament, Vol.IV page 352. ( the italics are in the Watchtower)Watchtower July 15th 1961 page 423
‘And since faith is also “the assured expectation of things hoped for,” it follows that we must also have knowledge of what are the things we may and should hope for. Again, God’s Word provides us with the needed knowledge. It assures us that paradisiac conditions will be restored to this earth, and that on a world-wide scale, and that this restoration work can be expected to begin within the present generation.’

I think this can be called garbage.
I also think that it affected people who had faith in God and his word more than those who had weak faith, their lives were adversely affected. At least some I know were.
After the history, 1914, 1925, etc., to me, I have to wonder how on earth they could have printed it.
Reading these quotes makes me feel sick and disgusted.
