  • I pointed out that Brother Trash Collector, the elder had a mustache, to which they replied that he has always had one, which made it OK

    Which goes to prove that each hall varies in its micro management of individuals trapped in this captive religion

  • Finally, for you former elders out there, have you ever had to give a bearded investigator the bad news that his prized beard had to go? How did he respond?

  • I was one of those individuals. It was about 25 years ago. I had a neat trim beard when about 6 months in I was taken to the back of the hall by an elder and tactfully told that brothers don't wear beards. Being young and naive, I thought it was scriptural. So I simply accepted it as full of zeal at the time believing I had the truth.
  • For about 10 years up until the age of the internet, this rule always niggled me as never saw any specific scripture to back up this rule. It wasn't until I read online the truth about the truth. We owe all our thanks to this ridiculous cult like rule to non other than judge Joseph Rutherford.

  Why do you frown upon beards when Jesus and his disciples sported them?

  Why do you frown upon beards when your modern-day founder, Charles Taze Russell and not a few of his followers sported them?

  I think there was a Watchtower article back in the seventies that referred to brothers wearing beards being confused with individuals who might be part of the beatnik movement or something. So if a brother was wearing a beard whilst out in the work, householders might view him like this

  
  

  Of course, the beatnik movement were considered rebel like. So of course such articles only further promoted the idea that brothers growing beards were displaying a rebellious spirit.

  There were other articles, but this was just an example. Also, I once heard a PO describe beards as dirty. It was a horrible disgusting comment to make at a public meeting.

  The guy might have well stood up and said to everyone ' hey, we are a high control religious group (Christian btw) that micro manages everyone. If you want to be a Christian in this organisation..shave of your beard and wear a suit'

  The bible study asked for a School Guidebook but the elders said "only when you shave your beard".

  He never came to another meeting. True story.

  That reminds me of this Bible study many years ago. She came along to the meetings a couple of times until the presiding overseer spoke about the subject of what sort of things can lead to individuals being disfellowshipped. He then went on to explain that a brother can be disfellowshipped if he were to make friends with a woman and was spending alot of time with her. I remember thinking.... no...no....no. that is just so wrong.

  • * None of that applies to old Sister Murphy who for years has had a beard that would embarrass most teenage guys if they tried to grow one. (With the exception that no one says anything openly about hers either.)

    That's just too funny doc 😂😂😂😂

  I had the floor overseer tell me that I couldn't read the Bible during my breaks. When I asked why, he replied that it's because the Society had deemed to give me an opportunity to "rest" and that I should "enjoy it" and show appreciation for that. Yeah, the guy was "super-fine" and didn't think that his argument made no sense even if my intent was to "relax"

  My oh my.....did this guy not know that reading is actually a form of relaxation? Telling you not to read the Bible was interesting. Wasn't there a time when brothers were advised not to study the Bible independently without wt articles. Perhaps this guy thought you were doing that and came up with his lame excuse.

  Beards are allowed over here, saw loads at the convention in London last year.

  I live in the UK. I know of a brother who was spoken to at the back of the kingdom hall recently by the COBE for growing a beard. He was told that brothers shouldn't wear beards and to follow the example of the brothers on the platform at assembly's.

  This guy is an out and out company man who goes by every single policy or guideline within the flock book and branch guidelines. I also know for a fact he micro manages the body of elders in the hall.
