Here in the UK, I remember an elderly sister mentioning 1975. She said she wondered why the Society would have said that at the time, as people sold up their homes. She and her husband sold their home and began pioneering back then.

1975 - JWs in other countries, not just the U.S. also knew about the prediction
by deegee ini have been wondering, if the 1975 prediction was just a rumour started by the rank & file as the wt claims, then how did jws in other countries, a part from the u.s., also come to know about the prediction?.
i started studying with the jws during the 80s when i was a child.
while attending one of my first meetings during that time, a brother commented during the wt study that armageddon did not come in 1975 because it was not known how many years after adam, eve was created.. at the time, i hadn't a clue what the guy was talking about.

I was impressed by part of today's symposium entitled ' Safeguard your children from what is evil'
by UnshackleTheChains inwell i have to give credit where credit is due.
it was the part of today's symposium - build a house that will endure.
the part i was most impressed with was 'safeguard your children from "what is evil".

It is not going to be the thing that breaks Watchtower, it is going to hobble them but it won't break them.
The ARC hearing and court cases in the US were not intended to break the organisation. They were simply about injustice and efforts at putting things right.
That has never happened and will never happen. Why would you think that it would?
Because the GB are human beings. They also claim to be Christian. If they look deep enough into their own souls, they might just be able to move mountains.

I am seeing more and more that the org is more reactive than proactive. A lot of times, when there's some change, important article, etc., it's because the org is reacting to something that affects it.
Most JWs will think "how loving that Jehovah's organization is so concerned about evil predators getting our children." What those JWs won't know is that the reason the info is in the talk is that the org has been and is being sued in connection with child molestation issues and that many of the molesters are in the congregations of JWs
Magnum
It's true what you are saying, but look at the bigger picture here. The good that comes out of this is that the jw.org juggernaut is slowly but surely beginning to turn around in the right direction. It has a long way to go, but it is becoming more and more evident that the GB is sitting up and taking notice.
I just hope they put truth and mercy ahead of their own interests sooner rather than later.

1975 and the burning question/s??
by UnshackleTheChains inok. so i'm sitting there at the convention.
the video comes up about 1975 and the fact that the faithful brother in the video maintained his faith in the bible by adhering to the scripture that says:.
'no one knows the day or the hour as to when the lord is coming'.

Hi Deegee,
I remember watching that video a while ago. It is interesting that 1975 was one of the factors that would eventually lead to the break up of the marriage.
I also thought it shocking that he was shunned by JWs at his own children's funeral. Sick and heartless!

The brother giving the talk didnt mince his words either. He delivered his talk really well by getting the message over to parents to be wary of potential dangers of their children being preyed upon by predators. I can honestly say I applaud Watchtower for making this point and stressing the dangers. It's about time too.
I have no doubt that the pressure put upon the Watchtower organisation in light of the Australian royal commission, the UK charity commission and the numerous court cases regarding the issue of child abuse has had a very big impact. Hopefully, Watchtower will review it's safeguarding policy to ensure they are meeting the standard requirements and at a satisfactory level.

why jw's commit suicide?
by notalone inwe all know the rate of suicide is high among jw's.
my question is this- was there some subliminal messages that encourage this.
i was a born in and my entire life i would have these thoughts that could come out of nowhere,"kill yourself.

I haven't read all the posts on here, but from what I have read, it certainly has a lot to do with the fact that the JW community is very insular. Also the high standards that are expected create feelings of guilt and never being good enough.
When I first became a witness, after about the first year, I suffered terribly from what I would call very low mood.I even wished I was dead at that time.
Looking back I now realise it was a mixture of things. I dropped all my 'worldly' friends. I used to go out socialising every weekend as had many friends. I began drinking at home. After a year and a half, I fell into a bit of trouble for which I was privately reproved. Little did I Know back then I was marked. I was living on my own and as a young man I was never invited out by witnesses my own age despite the fact it was a large congregation. I felt so lonely and isolated. I mean can you imagine not going out at the weekends with any friends for well over a year. It truly sucked. That period of my life still angers me to this day.
It's only years later, knowing how Watchtower works, knowing their policies by means of the flock book and getting a full sense of their teachings that I realised I was part of a high control religious group.
I feel sorry for those experiencing depression and thoughts of suicide. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Just live your life and be yourself. Don't let a group of men in their ivory tower pull you down. Stand up an be the person you should be.

Wouldn't it just have been prudent for the GB 'to let sleeping dogs lie'?
Good point steve2.
I understand where minimus is coming from; however, in my opinion, it's more about damage control. 1975 keeps popping up on various sites like a bad penny. 1975 will always be there as another reminder that THEY (GB) got it wrong back then and they are getting things wrong today eg blood policy, shunning policy, JW's are the only true religion etc etc etc

Thanks Tony. You're doing a great job btw. We just need more tight pants type talks to keep us going 😂😂😂
Fred Franz was the brain child behind the whole 1975 nonsense. As president of the Watchtower Society, he encouraged the promotion of 1975 as a 'possibility' that the end 'might' come that year

Jwfacts.com explains very clearly why so many rank and file witnesses were putting their trust and faith in the year 1975.
Also keep in mind the CONSTANT teaching and emphasis of 'this generation' was playing on everybody's mind which no doubt fueled the whole notion about 1975.
