How do the foreign language Congregations find people to call on?
by UnshackleTheChains inok. i had a fascinating conversation with one of my polish colleagues at work.
she knows i'm a jdub and an activist as have filled her in warts and all about watchtower.. she came up to me today explaining how a couple of polish witnesses came to her door.
she was curious as to how they knew to call on her door knowing she was polish.

Regarding the phone book, I would imagine the more hard lined determined zealots would possibly take time to do this. My colleague doesn't have a land line and therefore rules this out.
It was actually quite good to get feedback from her about this though as many who are called on in the foreign language field will be thinking how on earth they got this information.

Clearly watchtower property comes first. This is Watchtower hypocrisy in all its glory. On the one hand they have items like at this week's clam about the 3 young men who refused to bow down before an idol in the book of Daniel.
Yet Watchtower will give in to the Chilean government to hang the national flag on their properties to avoid their property being confiscated (or at least this appears to be the case.
Message to the Governing Body. Why don't you practice what you preach??

Does she have any identifying marks where she lives? Is her Polish name on the door-bell? A Polish flag or other stickers on her front door, the windows - or anything on her car
Darkspilver.
Funny enough, I asked her if her name was on her door, but she said she didn't.
Thanks for the information you gave. I will research the km later.
Thanks

Oh The Irony
by FedUpJW inso i sat and suffered through the clam tonight.. everything was pretty much as dull, repetitious, and simple-minded as i have come to expect, but i was really struck by the mind-numbing idiotic comments made during the part about shunning family.. then came the book study (no real bible use) loaded with self-congratulatory b.s about how wt never has, and never will beg, solicit, or ask for money.
i could feel myself beginning to channel the old tasmanian devil cartoon character as i listened to that garbage while remembering the jdubya tv shows about how more money was going out than coming in and give more.
but finally came the most ironic (to me) part of the entire meeting and i could not help bursting out in a loud belly laugh that got me many dirty looks and heavy frowns.

In our congregation a letter was read out from the Britain branch saying how each congregations contribution was helping out with the work etc. They didn't specifically ask members to donate, but they did thank everyone for their contributions.
So it's a bit like a child (who takes, but never gives) staring at another childs sweets saying she appreciated the sweets she was given in the past, but not directly asking for sweets. Yet the child with the sweets feels an obligation to give some to the child determined to get them..

I was in the Polish group here in Liverpool
Pale emporer
I guess the point my colleague was trying to make was how the polish witnesses knew she was polish And specifically went to her door.
But from what I'm gathering is that it's either as you say going to a polish community area or they fill in a slip and give the details to the Cong secretary if they come across someone who speaks another language. All legit and above board I guess.

Be loyal when a relative is disfellowshipped
by UnshackleTheChains inwell.....they showed that shunning video again.
you know...the one where goldilocks gets disfellowshipped- and the parents look across the hall at her with disdain.....yeah that video.. i was interested to see what kind of answers would be given during the discussion after the video and some of the reactions.
everyone sat there gormlessly staring at the video.

An elder's wife in my former congregation goes on vacation every year to Spain with her DFd daughter & grandchildren - she tries to keep hush hush about it but most of the congregation know ( and gossip about it behind her back. ) Situations like that are pretty common in the Org and the Org knows it.
I know of a cobe in another Cong who regularly associates with his disfellowshipped daughter and family. She was disfellowshipped about 20 years ago. My Mrs knows all the gossip and fills me in on everything.
Yet on the opposite end of the scale an ex elder (older generation) in my Cong has not spoken to his granddaughter for about 15 years since she was disfellowshipped. From what my good lady told me, she is now married with children.

All very creepy and stalkerish
Thanks folks. Yeah its obviously legal and above board, but clearly does cause individuals like my colleague to feel a little unnerved by such experiences.

Ok. I had a fascinating conversation with one of my polish colleagues at work. She knows I'm a jdub and an activist as have filled her in warts and all about Watchtower.
She came up to me today explaining how a couple of polish witnesses came to her door. She was curious as to how they knew to call on her door knowing she was polish. It also creeped her out a little as they skipped other doors and seemed to come only to her home.
I wasn't actually too sure and said that in my experience if we come across householders who speak another language, we could arrange for someone to come back that speaks their language and provide literature in their language etc
I really wasn't sure how the foreign language field works.
So my question is. How do the foreign language Congregations find people to call on? Hopefully I can give my polish colleague a definitive answer.
