Welcome Dog, I was a lurker for years but eventually reregistered and wrote my first post, yes it is a bit strange. Again Welcome, there are many previous elders, servants, pioneers, etc and the journey has a few bumps on the road.

I received this information about the annual report.
2013 World Wide Report
“On Wednesday, 30 October, 2013, the US Bethel family enjoyed the following report by Brother Baltasar Perla, member of the USA Branch Committee.
2013 World Wide Report given at Morning Worship:
Worldwide Report: Great! We are about 36,000 under 8 million!! WOW! And there are more Bible Students than there are of us!
Peak Publishers: 7,965,954 = 2.4% increase over last yearBaptized: 277,344 = 3.2% increase over last yearHours: 1,844,182,235 (1 billion, 844 million) = 5.3% increase!Reg Pios: 997,123 = 8.2% increase!Average of Bible Studies: 9,254,963
What contributed to this wonderful report? Metropolitan witnessing, public witnessing & branches around the world have invited publishers from other countries who speak the language to come & help them with seldom worked territory.
At a book fair in Colombia, the brothers set up a display & many said it was the best one there. More than 500,000 people were in attendance. More than 23,000 pieces of literature in 18 languages were placed, & best of all more than 400 “Please follow up” forms were obtained which was an average of 20 per day. In Mexico a similar display was set up at a book fair there. 700,000 people are expected to attend.
In Bulgaria, a deaf Olympics was held & more than 4,000 deaf individuals, including 2,700 deaf athletes, came from many different countries. 33 Witnesses from 9 different nationalities came to help with public witnessing. They had tables at several hotels, along with posters at 5 others displaying JW.org, then they had permission to set up a table at several of the athletic events. One deaf woman from India grabbed the sister’s tablet when she saw it was sign language in her Indian language, & she wouldn’t give it back until the video was finished. Then she said that she would be delighted to have someone call on her in India when she goes back home. In total 203 people from 55 countries left their contact information for follow up.
As a result of the metro witnessing, a total of 90,896 magazines, 66,263 Books have been placed & 5,173 Bible Studies have been requested.
In Romania, the branch launched a special field service campaign & invited Romanian-speaking witnesses from quite a few countries to come & preach in seldom worked territory in Romania. 2,000 witnesses from US, European countries, etc. responded & 41 % of their seldom-worked territory was worked during the two month campaign. 1,359 localities & over 1 million inhabitants were reached. They met many humble people who said things like, “God must have sent you”, & “We have been waiting for you to come.” They did get opposition from the priests. In one case, a priest snatched a magazine out of a householder’s hand but the householder snatched it back! So many are hungering for the truth! The publishers placed 89,966 magazines, & 6,127 books. They also placed 116,701 brochures & 31,379 Bible studies were started!
Brother Perla concluded that the report reminds us of Proverbs 1:20, 21 where it says that “true wisdom cries aloud in the street, it keeps raising its voice in the public squares. At the corner of a busy street it calls out!” -

Since leaving the truth, do you celebrate holidays, and does your participation in such bring you happiness?
by Stand for Pure Worship ini ask this respectfully, and do so after watching a favorite show of mine's season opener which had a new years storyline.
hollywood tends to make movies and television show episodes centered around holiday themes appear warm and blissful.
while i'm thankful to have never participated in such holidays, i can't deny my curiosity about ex-jws that do celebrate.

SFpw, wow, at least an attempt to be humbly inquisitive. Great.
For all, I deactivated four years ago. I have not done the "holidays" meaning decorating the house, putting up a christmas tree, carving a turkey, inviting family. I do enjoy every couple of years going to the Biltmore in N.C. during Christmas, it is awesomely cool.
Some history: Years ago (1970's) my family had a gathering that timewise "corresponded" to the worldly thanksgiving holiday. Primarily, then, as a middle class family, we got together because Everyone was off of work, and in honor we went to the Grand Parents Home and occasionally had turkey, (not always), in addition (because turkey was at the cheapest price for the year), and we had a dinner with the whole family.
My older brother balked when he was in his early twenties after marriage (again 1970's), and said that we were "celebrating" thanksgiving. (I wonder where he came up with this, because, I don't think his wife liked being around the family, she was too snooty and a donkey) Well, that was it, ending it, for family get togethers. We have not been together since. We tried going to a cafeteria for years to honor GF and GM but there was still critism and now Grandfather and Grandmother are dead, it's over. I guess we all did assembly at the funeral, oh, great.
SFpw, I have a JW disfunctional family that is great at being critical, judgemental, and hateful, because they are the elders, RBC's coordinators, District convention talk givers, etc. They have been indoctrinated very well into the hate mongering religion. Wuhoo!!

What's the weirdest health advice given by a JW?
by Julia Orwell infrom radio biola to a sister who said you can treat autism and ptsd with scented oils, jws have had some weird some weird ideas about medicine.
what gems have you heard?.
-
JakeM2012
The weidest that I heard and know personally was the mushroom tea. You took part of someone elses mushroom and started you own tea. It had to "work" for 10 days to two weeks. Then you drained off the "tea" and drank it. It was supposed to cure any and everything. I drank it and my mom grew the "tea" in the refrigerator, it was nasty tasting. The mushroom would cover the liquid tea with a thick growth. I laugh at it now, what idiots we were.
Point: If you have a health problem, go to a doctor.
How about those Shakley Vitimans?

JW Preaching Work Ends in 20th Century ?
by Scorpion inpage 12 of the january 1,1989 wt original magazine paragraph 8 ends with the statement that the apostle paul's missionary activity laid a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century.".
(a subtle prophecy that 'the end' will come by the year 2000 a.d.).
this sentence is changed in the bound volume reprint to read "a work that would be completed in our day.

Are YOU Paying More or Less or the Same $$$ For Insurance Since Obamacare?
by minimus injust curious.
-
JakeM2012
I'm a union employee. So far we haven't been affected. The employer pays into a heath and wellfare fund. Insurance meets the Obama minimum. Joining the union was the best thing I've done since the economy crashed in 2008. Full reimbursement for prescriptions, and not too bad insurance otherwise.

Letting go of Highly Qualified Men
by James Jackson ini have been posting for a few months now and have read the life stories of tech49, confusedandalone, winston smith and other brothers who have held prominent positions in the organization who were dismissed not for any gross sins, but mainly for not keeping their child toeing the line.
they have been "cast aside", nit picked to death, and made to feel unworthy for their years of dedicated service.
even in my case, having my best friends treat me like the plague to jockey for position of recogntion.. is this what the organization is resorting to now?

James, good post. It's true, the elder bodies in the WTBTS are full of nit pickers. They behave just like chickens that peck to death the weaker chickens. Chicks will do this to other chicks. Witnesses grow up in a judgemental environment and only know this way of dealing with others. Somehow the Biblical teachings of love and compassion are never learned.
