Twith > No its from "The Gate", a low budget 80s schlock horror film, a fav from days gone by
Hmm, probably too old and too cheap to be on netflix. lol Never heard of it, and boy, did I see a lot of 80's horror stuff (might explain my choice for the title of this topic)

OrphanCrow > I have known of people who went to a healer first - their pain disappeared but their undiagnosed cancer didn't.
I agree with you in the sense that pain has a function that should be traced back to the source, if possible. Doctors are trained for that. It would be very, very stupid to simply get rid of pain without proper medical care for let's say, some broken bone.
In Holland, we've had a notorious case of Jomanda, a spiritualist and healing medium who got in trouble after the death of actress Sylvia Millecam:
wiki: In 2001 Jomanda gave medical and spiritual advice to the popular Dutch actress Sylvia Millecam, who later died of cancer. In 2004 the Dutch Health Inspectorate filed suit against Jomanda claiming that she and three alternative therapists misled Millecam by claiming that the actress was merely suffering from an inflammation.
On the other hand, half the nation where I live thrives on pills and pain killers, it's an entire industry by itself which shows how much we are fighting symptoms instead of seeing through what is really going on. There's so much we still don't know. Both sides seem to have their limitations, maybe we will reach some widely accepted hybrid form some day, but hey, for now my healing lady saved me some paracetamol/acetaminophen

Hey Twitch, that 1st picture was exactly what appeared in the sky during my miraculous healing!!!! lol, no... like the picture though. Is it from Doom?
just fine, you wrote:
I don't think I can answer OC questions any better than I have
My impression too, but it wasn't up to me to make such a statement. Another intriguing detail that came to my mind was that my healer has diabetes. Only when her sugar is high, she uses pictures (including mine) to make the pain of others disappear from a distance. Her sugar then drops. Another indication that energy transfer is the main factor, and my healer clearly needs to take care of a good energy balance (she's 90 years old!).
It also reminds me of Jesus, who stated in Luke 8:46 that power went out of him. Clearly, some carpenters have "the gift" also.

Okay everyone, time for an update (for those who are interested), but first of all, thanks for all the replies.
Lisa Rose, incredible story (if true). I think we can't apply the placebo-effect to this dog, who didn't see that one coming! The healing happened fast en suddenly, I also assume there was too little time for the dog to suspect the healing stranger to be an off-duty vet or dog-whisperer
Anders Andersen, I read your link regarding phantom-pain. It's interesting to read that regarding the mirror technique, the site admits:
It is not obvious why this simple technique works
rebel8, I read this on your link:
Patients told they were getting a placebo still reported improvements at a much higher rate than patients who were not treated.
The outcome is fascinating and confirms what many of us already know... the mind can be very powerful, even (as the experiment shows) if we are fully aware of the placebo-effect. But, an improvement is what it is, an improvement. I went from pain to no pain within seconds, a 100% efficiency just by gently pressing my wrist! No crystal ball, no prayer, no questions about any of my personal views...just a human touch. This was no long term experiment with gradual improvement, this was some sort of on/off switch. Again, very effective.
This also brings me to two different views among the replies:
OrphanCrow > I think it is important to remember that the "gift" only works if the recipient of that "gift" accepts it. That gift is ineffective without a willing participant to receive it
just fine > The lady that I see says it doesn't matter if you believe her or not it works anyway.
I promised to ask my healing lady about it and Idid today. She confirmed what just fine wrote. No faith required.
Nevertheless OrphanCrow asked some additional questions, which haven't been answered yet by just fine.
It is to be expected that every healer, receiver and situation has its own "rules" and chemistry. So far, I'm very happy with all the stories and replies, thanks again. I hope to reach a balanced, non-superstitious view and certain things I can relate to.

"You Should be Dancing" is just irresistible!!!
Disco is very cool and although the genre was hated intensely at times, the classic disco-beat (4 on the floor with open hi-hat on the upbeats) simply has become one of the standard and essential rhythms of contemporary music! I played some disco in an allround band for four years and it delivered me two songs on a sampler dvd and a gig in Holland's famous Amsterdam-based Paradiso club! Good vibes

Thanks lady Liberty. Another nail in the coffin of the WT's integrity. SHAME ON THEM!!!
Reminds me of another example of a misquote regarding 607 BCE that can be found at jw.facts:
In the 2010 book God's Word for Us Through Jeremiah, a statement is made regarding a find by Eilat Mazar, supporting two Characters mentioned in Jeremiah.
"Archaeologist Eilat Mazar reports unearthing a small clay seal impression, or bulla. (below left) It was found in 2005 during a supervised excavation of a layer dating back to when Jerusalem was destroyed in 607 B.C.E." God's Word for Us Through Jeremiah p.55
The reader may get the impression that Eilat is supporting the year 607 B.C.E., whereas she presents that the destruction was in 587 B.C. (See articles at jpost.com and archaeology.hui.ac.il) There was no need to mention the date 607 B.C.E., as it was not relevant to the topic, and for the sake of accuracy the writer could have referred to "when Jerusalem was destroyed by Babylon." The Watchtower inserts this date to deceitfully condition Jehovah's Witnesses that 607 B.C.E. is historically accurate.

Interesting. I will ask "my" healer about it. Hope she will be honest about her effectivity ;-)
Thanks for your input Anders, I will check the link.
