How much time and money did we waste traveling to meetings alone?

this is something that really gets to me, all the way back to my childhood.
twenty minutes each way, three times a week.

I'm so glad I got out before the current downsizing and selling of Kindom Halls started! The GB has gone insane! Can you imagine all the extra time and miles for all those congregations involved in these new arrangements? How can they deal with this all these extra costs and pressure? Poor elderly and limited witnesses who need to rely on others just to make it to the meetings. I hope many will see the bullsh#t behind it (money for potential law suits anyone?) and stay home.

Received my first letter since leaving

since i left at the second half of 2016, i never received something like this.
it is a one and a half page hand written letter that is written by an elder pioneer (i guess he needed some easy way to get his time in).. it is not written in english, so i will translate it:.

Thanks for sharing Yesu. Gosh, already in the second sentence of his letter, he brings up the devil!!!. FEAR FEAR FEAR!!! Not much 'agape' to be found anywhere, right? Aren't JW's supposed to focus on positive or encouraging good news?
One of the weapons that he uses, is to let us and the world try to believe that we (underlined in letter) can solve all the problems in the world ourselves. Look around you. The problems of all the nations can all be traced back to the offer of the Devil in Eden ... ''you can do it yourself''...
I'd reply: Well, I've seen so many witnesses focusing on the preaching work and rejecting higher education for so many decades but the end can't be always "around the corner" don't you agree? In the *cough meanwhile *cough *cough, governments and science that HAVE invested in this system of things have improved health care, our life expectancy, food supplies, social services, working conditions, means of transport, communication, human rights, education etc. War, great plagues, child mortality and poverty have been reduced to an unprecedented scale. Acid rain and the hole in the ozon layer have been adressed succesfully and environmental movements are working hard on current problems. Don't you agree that JW's also benefit from all these "worldly" services and improvements? Yes, there are still problems,but this really is the best time to live in. How does that fit the JW picture that everything gets worse and worse? Don't you think that the WT is biased since it chooses to focus on bad news in order to claim the end is near while ignoring all the good things and impovements that have been achieved?
Amos 3:7 says: For the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will not do a thing. Unless he has revealed his confidential matter to his servants the prophets.
This way of acting can be seen through all parts of the Bible. It was true for the Christian congregation of the past and also for the Christian congregation of today. (1 Cor. 2:10)Amos 3:7? Really??? Man,I eat this sh#tty arguments for breakfast. If Amos 3:7 is proof for Jehovah's support and blessing, then what about the WT's history of false prophecy? The end didn't come in 1914, so Russell decided to change it to 1915, just in case he'd missed a lousy year or so .Nothing happened, he died in 1916. Then Rutherford had even more scriptural proof for 1925...nothing happened. Again, in 1941 it would only be months before Armageddon...nothing happened, he died in 1942. During Knorr, Franz' overactive imagination foresaw 1975 as the end...if not, it would be a matter of just a few years, depending on the timing of Eve's creation... nothing happened...both Knorr and Franz have died. The end would come within' the 20th century...nothing happened...that whole generation of 1914 has died...only to be replaced by the WT's latest trick...the overlapping generation!
And this elder pioneer still dares to claim "Just as in the first century things are progressively being made clearer."???

Do you find it therapeutic coming to this site?
by UnshackleTheChains ini read on another thread how this site has helped another user and that for them it has been a form of therapy.. for me yes, jwn has most certainly been a form of therapy.. i recall the days i first came to jwn (in 2004) and couldn't believe i had found people who were of the same opinion as myself in regards to the society.
it was this site that led me to reading ray franz's book 'crisis of conscience' which i read twice within a week.
it also led me to jw facts that goes into every nook and cranny regarding the society's teachings, policies and history.. note: i also visit many other sites and watch you tube videos a lot, but gravitate here most of the time.. coming here to express my inner most thoughts and feelings has helped me no end and allows me to overcome my frustrations.

Oh yes, a perfect place to vent anger or frustration. There always is something for everyone. Like others said, it has become my daily manna so to say.
It's also very satisfying (therapeutic) to know that on this forum we hear the latest news, even before JW's themselves hear it, and without that filthy GB-filter! Makes you realize there is no spirit-directed organisation, so no fear for that org (and we know that fear as part of FOG is their strongest weapon).

Deflated after realising my inactive friends are POMI
by Isambard Crater ini'm going through an extremely hard and dark time right now and really yearned for the support of people i know in the flesh, and i really thought revealing my serious doubts and frustrations to a few close friends who became inactive several years ago would help.
they attend the memorial and no more than 2 sunday meetings each year, and haven't preached for several years, so are still technically baptised-but-inactive.. it broke my heart or at least left me feeling very alone when they all (they don't know each other and live in separate areas) told me that they can sympathise but reckon i should stay with "the truth" (their words, still) as it's the best thing there is.
it's like i'd discovered a new group of people, not pimo (physically in, mentally out, like me) but pomi (physically out, mentally in).

You met her? That's very cool. I don't know if she ever will ever visit Holland/Belgium, but I expect JW abuse related news coverage too this year. Let's wait and see how things unfold this year. Candace's appearence is not obliged for the process of course, but it sure would be thrilling to have such a brave spokesperson over here. Soo many JW's are still ignorant or in denial over here.

Thank you for sharing sp74bb and eternal gratitude to Candace Conti for stepping up against the WT abuse policies that have proven NOT to work. From 2012 on she triggered my personal research that eventually led to my awakening. Great to see she is still at the forefront, awaiting more succesful cases for other victims! Hopefully many will be spared from potential "Kendricks" in the future.
