I didn't go through and read all of the comments but my personal opinion is that it could very well be a very simple explanation. These social network sites can be very public unless you make changes to your settings. In other words I can look on your facebook page or your instagram account and see who your friends are or who you follow, It's possible that some do gooding busybody looked at this person's account and discovered that they were friends with/following you and asked some very tough questions. With all of the loyalty stuff they were fed at the convention there was really only one thing to do once confronted. Changing your privacy settings now would only look suspicious and they may have felt it wasn't worth taking the risk of also being on the outside looking in. Of course there's also a possibility that I'm way off base on this thing and 100 percent wrong.

Still no answer on my question about parking. Is the parking arrangement a sacred secret now? I was just curious I know there's an easy way to find out just drive to the convention and try to park in the designated area but I think I'd rather have my prostate checked my Shaquille Oneal

So my idea of going on to Orbitz and booking every weekend in June July and August at the most preferred hotel months before the list comes out will work. And you can probably still get the JW discount rate. Just call after the appointed time. Not right away maybe March or April and say you want to verify the reservation and rate oh I'm a JW I get the discount. If not probably no big deal the discount can't be that much the really close preferred Hotels know the witnesses will rent the rooms no matter what. The society may tell them hey if we tell them not to stat at your place they wont stay and that's true to a point but there are plenty of JWs out there who like to do things their own way. What about parking? Do you still have to buy the parking pass from the society in advance? How much are they now? By the way worst job ever I hated working out in the parking lot during the convention and I didn't do it very often. There was always a "brother" in my cong who was in charge of the parking-they gave those jobs to the obedient janitors, dish washers, painters, and grass cutters who never went to college not much thinking required to be "parking overseer"-then I had to avoid him like the plague for several weeks. Best job was the rooming dept. you sat at the desk all day even though 99.5% of the attendees already had a room or had decided to drive every day. Yet you still sat there all day watching all the beautiful "sisters" walk by in there Sunday best. So if they still come out with the rooming announcement do they still have the same rules no loud splashing in the pool, don't stay out late, go to bed early, wear your badge at all times, and for Gods sake don't save seats for people not in your family or car. I always happened to believe that saving seats was about as unloving as you could get from "the most loving org on earth". I hated being an attendant and looking at those 5 seats with magazines and books on them on row after row with nobody coming to claim them while at the same time telling countless single parents with young kids no there are no seats down here your going to have to take that 6 month old in your left arm and the 20 month old in your right arm the 3,5, and 7 year old and climb all those stairs to the nose bleed section. Maybe you will get something out of the meeting between taking all 5 out with you to use the bathroom or change a diaper. All the while the seat savers are sitting there looking at the poor lady with contempt because of her disobedience in not getting here on time while ignoring the fact that they have no business saving those seats for the people who don't meet the criteria and are more than likely sitting somewhere else because they really don;t like your ass that much.

So this past weekend I took my girlfriend and my boys on a little weekend getaway. We stayed in a hotel and early Sunday morning I went out for some Starbucks. When I returned and called the elevator it arrived, the doors opened and inside waiting to come out was a nice lady with that all too familiar badge on her lapel. We exchanged pleasantries and she was on her way to her convention. However that very brief encounter got me to thinking a little bit. Does the society still put out a list of hotel rooms to stay in? Do they still command that you wait until the appointed time to make your phone call to reserve the room at the society's negotiated rate? Does anyone still make reservations over the phone? Back when I was in the conventions we used to go to had about 3 or 4 (maybe more can't remember) hotels that were walking distance to the arena. These hotel rooms were coveted big time and usually filled up within a day or 2 after the society gives its ok to start calling. There are several advantages to staying in a hotel that's walking distance from the arena. First of all you don't have to buy the parking pass. Do they still sell parking passes?? Also you can get up bright and early get your briefcase which should be packed with bible, songbook and other literature and head on down to the convention wait for them to open the doors go inside save your seats then go home and go back to bed. Or if you are a "brother" (sorry again "sisters") you can volunteer to be an attendant get in there early save your seats then disappear and go home and go back to sleep. Also If you are a young go getter of a "brother" noone will really think it will be odd for you to be out of your seat for long periods of time they would just assume that you are somewhere working hard behind the scenes when in actuality you are back in the room watching TV or drinking coffee or whatever. That is why you have to have one of those rooms very close to the arena. I often wondered when word came down from on high and the letter and list was read at the elders meeting, and strict instructions given on exactly when to start calling and not a minute before, how many elders ignored that command and when ahead and made reservations for themselves. Anyway with Orbitz and other travel sites now you can just make a reservation for every weekend from mid june to mid Aug way ahead of time then just cancel the ones you dont need when you find out the dates

Poor Sisters
by Darryl ini really felt for you sisters i mean i really did.
when you showed up at the sunday meeting and found out the subject of the talk was going to be -and i can't quite remember the exact wording- but something to the effect of marriage and headship, or honoring and obeying your husband, or something like that how many of you wanted to jump right back in your car and head home.
i mean 45 straight minutes of beating down you poor ladies and telling you that you are not worthy of making one decision, taking the lead in anything, don't question the man be obedient and keep quiet.

I actually remember one such talk where the speaker said this "you sisters have a lot of things that you take charge of and take the lead in things like what to fix for dinner or how to divy up the chores. Even can suggest places the family might want to go on vacation" Suggest not decide suggest in other words ask hubby. Or how about that snot nose 16 year old kid that you used to watch crawl around the kingdom hall. Now that little shit has gotten baptized and now he's telling you what to do. I used to cringe inside at some of the things I would hear from the platform and wonder what you were thinking. I was never an elder just an MS but I never had that view toward you it is a very chauvaunistic organization.

This generation will by no means pass away
by Darryl ingood morning i hope everyone is having a wonderful day.
there has been a lot of talk about the "new light" concerning the generation teaching.
it's been a major part of the prophecy concerning the last days and of course since jws are the only ones able to decipher and understand prophecy it is of great importance to get this main prophecy right.

Good morning I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. There has been a lot of talk about the "new light" concerning the generation teaching. It's been a major part of the prophecy concerning the last days and of course since JWs are the only ones able to decipher and understand prophecy it is of great importance to get this main prophecy right. And as we all know they've blown it several times. I'm not exactly sure the first time they interpreted this prophecy and what wrong fulfillment they came up with but for this particular thread are there any here who were around in the early 80's. Do you remember the "new light" concerning this generation. Well for a long time it was stated with certainly that the generation that saw 1914 would by no means pass away, you just had to be alive in 1914. Well that teaching was altered slightly right around 80 or so, Now you not only had to be alive but you had to be old enough to recognize what the hell was going on in the world. I think the word they used was discern so you had to discern that the world was changing so that pushes things up a little since the age most people threw out there was 10 years old. It didn't concern the society because at the time they had plenty of time to play with since in 1982 if you were born in 1914 you were only 68. 10 in 1914 78 still a lot of years before an entire generation passes away considering many people live to their 90's. It was grave concern to me because I was just a young teenager at the time and they just cut 10 years off of the things I already would never experience. But here we are 30 plus years later, I wonder what the next fulfillment will be.

New Monthly Broadcast - BE LOYAL! - Shut Up and Sit Down!
by ttdtt inthe new broadcast is - predictably - about being loyal to the gb.it's a shut up and sit down message.. one of the funny things they keep bringing up is the correlation between the gb and moses.those who don't listen to the gb are like korah.. this is a false choice, why?let's look at a quick comparison.
(this is from the point of view of the bible).
was moses directly picked by god?- yeswas the gb directly picked by god?- well no, we actually are not told how the gb are picked and why the qualify.. did god talk to moses?- yesdoes god talk to the gb- no, they admit they are not in direct communication.. did god inspire moses to write laws and judge.- yesdoes god inspire the gb to write laws and judge.- no, they admit they are not inspired, and they are always wrong and need to change things all the time.. did god give the israelites undisputable proof that moses is his channel?- yes, many miracles visible to everyone one around happenddoes god give jws undisputable proof that the gb are his channel?- no, there is no proof, actually contrary.. was moses ever wrong?- nohas the gb ever been wrong?- every time.

I have never ever watched these broadcasts and I don't believe I ever will. But are these done on a regular basis or on as needed basis. Are the elders given word to the flock to go home and check your computers there's a new message from the governing body? What about witnesses who still don't have access to the internet? Are there computers in the kingdom halls now?

Do JWs believe they will be the only people saved at the "end"?
by LaurenM inthe answer posted on jw.org: "no.
many millions who lived in centuries past and who weren’t jehovah’s witnesses will have an opportunity for salvation.
additionally, many now living may yet begin to serve god, and they too will gain salvation.

Darryl
In any case, it’s not our job to judge who will or won’t be saved. That assignment rests squarely in Jesus’ hands."
Wait aren't they waiting for the time when their message turns into a message of judgement? Knocking on doors telling people they are absolutely going to die because they did not become JW's. Not our job to judge?? It most certainly will be their job to judge. I guess they should have said not right now anyway but soon very very soon it will be and spoiler alert if you're not a JW in the very near future you are as good as dead.

The whole goal in meeting for field service every Saturday morning is to make it to 12:00 with as little of actual door to door ministry as possible. So yes socialize for 15 to 20 minutes before loading up the cars. Hopefully someone in your car group just remembered that return visit of theirs works nights and it's best to catch them as early as possible before they go to bed. But it's way on the other side of town so let's hit this one very nice talkative person who's not interested but very close to the meeting spot first so we can get our time started. They're home they're in a talking mood 20 min later we're on our way mission accomplished. To the other side of town 25 min drive, return visit doesn't answer (we knew they wouldn't) let's get to the territory. But first who wants some coffee stop at the coffee shop 15 min later we're on our way to the territory. The best scenario is you have a territory that your car group is working by themselves that way there's not a zealous, goody two shoes, pioneering on my way to bethel, prick wondering where the hell you are and why you're not preaching as he commanded as the field service coordinator taking the lead. Anyway on the way to the territory wait sister so and so just remembered that call she had who's really interested and might be willing to start a bible study. That's another 15 min in the direction we just came from lets turn around and head over there. The only problem is that very interested sheep has moved and sister so and so kind of knows that because the last five times she's been there the house looked abandoned but let's not let that stop us it's 11:20 and once we get to that house and knock, leave a mag or tract and get back in the car there's no need to go to the territory because everybody said when asked how long they planned to be out this morning "12:00" We are back in the car it's 11:40 might as well head back to the meeting spot maybe stop by another very nice but not interested person to round it off. By the way has there ever been anyone in history who was not aux or reg pioneering that when asked that question-how long did you plan on being out this morning responded "At least till 2:30 3:00."

JWs do Volunteer To Help Worldly Organizations Distribute Food to the Needy
by Athanasius insome months back i posted a topic asking if jws were now encouraged to volunteer their time for charitable organizations, as one of the volunteers who i work with was promoting jw.org to one of the spanish speaking workers.
because of that, i guessed that he was a jw.. https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5708790489939968/jws-now-encouraged-volunteer.
well the other day as he and i were folding and stacking tables after distributing food to the needy, i mentioned that after i retired i got bored and decided to do volunteer work.

That's encouraging that witnesses are now allowed to do real charity work to help their fellow man. I remember when their idea of helping those who were downtrodden went a little something like this. Are you hungry? You are? Starving actually? That's too bad. how would you like to live in a world where you will never be hungry or thirsty again? And you can pet lions and tigers. And instead of barbequeing a pig you will feast on nuts and berries and various other fruits. Here take this watchtower ummm we normally get a donation for thi...oh you don't have any money? Well how about we set up a bible study I guess you will be back here next week??
