My wife asked me if I was going and I calmly told her that as we are all Christ's brothers I would have to partake and this might be embarrassing for her and those who know me which is most of the cong. She is becoming curious now as to where I get all my info. I told her that most comes from the inconsistencies and changes in the watchtower such as overlapping generations with no scriptural backup. There is still hope.

Today's WT Paragraph 4
by Slidin Fast ini thought that this little gem deserved a thread of it's own.. 4. why is it important for us to be present at the memorial if at all possible?.
4 reflect on the importance of attending the memorial.
remember, congregation meetings are part of our worship.

But it's alright if we do it.
by Lost in the fog inwe were talking with a friend who is in a different area and they mentioned that their present kingdom hall building used to be a church before the brothers bought it cheaply and renovated it.
"of course," john then said, "it'll be dedicated to jehovah after all the work is done so even if everyone in the community still call it the old church, we'll know it is jehovah’s place of worship.
hadn't consciously thought about it until now, but isn't it hypocrisy to (re)dedicate a church and it becomes ok for the witnesses to use.

Where I live in Aus it was never a big deal. In the 70s when we were looking to build a kh, an elder said to me that a local old church would do if the price was right. His comment was that “we would have to get the spooks out of it”.
We sold our kh in town where I live near now to the Salvation Army some 8 or 9 years ago. You can guess who now has the money and the large block of land we bought as a replacement site. Also my wife informed me recently that they are not building the new hall that was “approved” 12 months ago. No one who knows the full story is happy about it. She is even starting to ask me questions about where I get my info from. I know more about what is going on than she does.
Sorry......a bit off topic there.

Years ago....two.
The first one wiped himself out on his motor cycle after his family split up and left “the truth”.
The second was a sister in the cong who had problems which “the truth” couldn’t help. I felt sorry for her. The PO went around the hall telling us not to talk about it. He eventually ate himself to death, so I will amend my first sentence.
Years ago......three

Another School Shooting: The Gun Violence/Mental Illness Debate Continues
by jp1692 inin the aftermath of the valentine's day school shooting in florida, i have read quite a number of articles, blogs and posts about the event.
it is disturbing--and i think inexcusable--that many people take the opportunity to use horrible tragedies such as this to push their own particular agenda.. in particularly insensitive and tone-deaf tweet, conservative political commentator tomi lahren wrote: "can the left let the families grieve for even 24 hours before they push their anti-gun and anti-gunowner agenda?
my goodness.

jwundubbed....I was going to comment on this "mentally ill" business, but I think you have covered it really well. I fully support what you have so eloquently written and I feel that people should realise that just because a person is unwell it does not follow that they are violent and "unhinged".

A crisis of scientific reproducability
by Outahere inhttps://www.nature.com/news/1-500-scientists-lift-the-lid-on-reproducibility-1.19970.
more than 70% of researchers have tried and failed to reproduce another scientist's experiments, and more than half have failed to reproduce their own experiments.
i didn't know it was so widespread...but it's a big problem in biology/medicine..

LUHE.....Most scientists do the best they can......That is an interesting statement! I was torn apart on my last topic posted for daring to criticise the God of science.
"scientific research" is all about money. Especially in the field of medicine. I have seen too many victims to think otherwise.

Give Love to Receive Love ???
by IMHO inplease help me understand this.
over the years i have seen and have heard of many who have changed congregation due to the 'lack of love' shown in their own.
you then hear many condemning such ones as 'having a problem' and 'taking their problems with them'.

I have had social anxiety disorder for all of my life, becoming much worse from my late twenties forty years ago.
I saw a psychiatrist for twenty years who dished out the usual benzodiazapines, which I have to say have kept me going and I seem to tolerate them, which goes against all the printed evidence apparently.
It was hard going to the hall when I was in, some evenings not talking to anybody and feeling really out of it and it is emotionally hard now with my wife still in even though I am totally out and "inactive" now. She understands my problem though and supports me as did many in the cong as I had known some since the mid seventies.
In late 1998 there was a really good article in the awake mag on SAD which actually caused some discussion at the hall and it surprised me to find that quite a few had this problem at varying levels. I had also found the same thing at work. Some much worse than me.
There have been some good replies and comments made here IMHO and I don't have any advice other than to echo what Phoebe said and go and talk things over with a psychologist that you feel really comfortable with.. All the best to you.

It's only a baby. Keep it as a pet. I've had a few in the house and the shed over the years, usually curled up and fast asleep.
