Will #metoo have an affect on forcing changing attitudes at Watchtower?
by jwfacts indespite decades of the feminist movement, watchtower's attitude of woman being inferior has changed little, with pauline sexism justified as inspired, on the basis that women are lesser emotionally, intellectually and physically.
jehovah's witnesses seem to accept this with little resistance.
is there anything about the #metoo movement that may wake followers up?

The MeToo campaign is only just gathering momentum. Tonight a prominent actor in Aus was blasted on national tv for half an hour by three actresses who worked with him in 2014 on a stage production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. They claimed inappropriate sexual behaviour during performances.
All of the offences that were alleged to have been committed are already covered under criminal law. There was no mention of complaints to police or police involvement of any kind.
I realise that this sort of behaviour does occur and probably always has and is not going to change. Certain people need to accept that there are men who will seek to take advantage of women in vulnerable positions and that the only remedy is prosecution in a court of law.
Possibly ruining a person's career by indulging in trial by media is not acceptable, and using the excuse that they did not want to affect their careers is also not acceptable. Sometimes we have to bite the bullet.

What is it with this latest wave of "feminism"?
My eldest daughter of forty one is a libertarian, a lawyer and refers to them as Marxists.
My female doctor who I have known for over thirty years has no time for losers who don't make an effort in life.
We have had equal pay for equal work in Australia since the seventies.
I have seen less women who were browbeaten in JW Congs than in general society, the biggest problem seems to be lack of men - real men that is.
I have known my still in wife for almost fifty years since she was 16, we have been married for more than 46 years. Plenty of fights but still very much together.
I could go on and on but that's enough! I don't get this latest "feminism" thing. There are much more serious problems in life.

I was under the impression that paedophilia refers to sexual attraction to pre pubescent children not necessarily those under the age of consent. I looked up the Wikipedia definition and it states much the same. I wish I could cut and paste on my iPad. One day I will make the effort to learn how.

Factual, false, or phenomenon?
by stillin inthis strikes me as strange.
in the last few years i have met four newly associated, and in a couple of cases baptized, brothers in the congregations who say that they did long stints in secret branches of the military and that they were behind the lines, "wet work" operatives.
i might have considered it exceptional that one person who served in such a capacity would even go to church, let alone join up with the likes of jehovah's witnesses.

I found this thread interesting. Living near us in this semi rural area in Aus is a "brother " who served with the American special forces with the Hmong people in the Vietnam war. He has a badly smashed up hip and according to his wife had a really bad time in the war. So these people do become JWs. I thought this was of note because of some of the previous comments. -

I have been out for less than a year and I only have a small number of family still in. My wife accepts that I am never going back and I anti witness to anyone that calls to speak to me. I agree with snare&racket's comments completely in my case. They are delusional and thay have no control over us. If I can help someone else I will and willingly. -

Do you or did you experience too much intrusion into your personal life by the elders in your congregation?
by UnshackleTheChains ini ask this question because i have personally experienced first hand the control and intrusion into my personal life by the elders at our hall; and for virtually trivial things or non issues!
what's more, i regularly hear of individuals moving to other halls because they were stumbled by the thought police....er, i mean these elders.. have you had any such experience?
have your elders been a bit ott over trivialities?.

sparrowdown......That is so true. When I was in we had someone who was almost permanently disfellowshipped. The word defiance was used. I used to like him and chat to him when he was back with us. He married a sister a lot older than he was and that didn't go down well. They moved down to Victoria, Aus and I like to think they both left.
I was chatted once for "spending too much time talking to sisters". That one left me dumbfounded and I ignored it. If I meet someone when I am out and about they always seem willing to have a brief talk with me. I just think of them as people.
Elders are nobodies. The control freaks are COs and above.

gb, PLEASE, PLEASE UP THE ORGANIZATIONAL HARSHNESS IN 2018
by steve2 insometimes i have expressed a longing for jw organization to tone down its rhetoric and become, well, nicer and more loving.
i have not been alone in my hope.
some posters have even said that if a wave of kindness washed over jw organization and, say, the shunning doctrine was modified (e.g., left up to the individual's conscience without fear of retribution from elders), they'd go back.

Yes, bring it on alright. The loonier it gets the better. I had a conversation today with an elder who is not "mainstream" and my wife and I realise they are still both totally deluded. Anything that helps them to wake up is great.
