By the way, there was another thread here from a month or so ago, the LDC approved the construction of 6 (yes, only 6) new KHs in all of the USA in all of 2016.
If that's the case it's very telling.
it would be interesting to match the number of new halls built to the number of talks/buildings sold off, especially in the western world.

Was Ray Franz Playing The Long Game?
by rory-ks ini'm just making my way through crisis of conscience for the second time and once again i am struck by the presentation of such detailed records.
letters are shown in full - copies of letters from the branch, and to the branch.
reports are quoted vebatim.

Also I think in the days before email memos and letters were routinely kept in files as records - so yes it's likely he kept access to them.

The handling of child abuse allegations
by Landy inthere's a lot of criticism surrounding the jw's handling of chiild abuse within their ranks with a lot of it being well deserved.
but i'm interested to know how people on here think child abuse allegations should be handled.
there's a few scenarios below, the first couple are easy then it gets a bit more complex.

There is nothing to debate. Call the police and social services to protect the child and potentially other children.
For everyone who advocates this, they would be willing do this against the wishes of the victim?
The victim may be now an adult, be married with kids and not want to get involved. She may not have even told those close to her, yet you would still go running to the police knowing the potential upset it may cause. The correct answer in this case is no you wouldn't - it is and should be entirely up to the victim.

UK's NSPCC REJECTS 'mandatory reporting' of suspected child abuse
by darkspilver inlarge article at the top of page 20 in today's - 6th november 2016 - sunday observer, the 'sister' newspaper in the uk of the guardian which only prints monday to saturday.. the national society for the prevention of cruelty to children - nspcc - is the uk's leading children's charity, specialising in child protection and are the only uk children's charity with statutory powers and that means they can take action to safeguard children at risk of abuse.. the headline in the web version is slightly different, but the rest of the article appears to be the same.
nspcc rejects plan for 'mandatory reporting' of suspected child abuse.
the government’s consultation on reporting and acting on child abuse and neglect was launched amid concerns about past abuse in some of the country’s major institutions.

I just don't know what the right solution is.
Which is the main point I've been trying to make, there are all sorts of scenarios where it is very difficult to navigate through to the correct course of action. Especially when it comes to the continuing safeguarding of others.

She was a fine sister
by silentlambs inshe was a fine sister with a history that went back six generations with jehovahs witnesses.
her family boasted well over 1000 jw family members, many of which had high station within the organization.
this proud heritage was marred by another fact in the familys history this sister had not disclosed.

It's great when you have a user with multiple (at least two) accounts stalking your every post - it makes you feel loved. I've told her I'm happily married and not interested but she's not taking the hint.
I say at least two as it's suspicious that a new poster has registered and immediately ressurected a 16 year old thread using a very familiar writing style. But I could be wrong and Oletta gets the benefit of the doubt.

Yes DD it's a serious thread. The WTS are rightly criticised for their appalling handling of safeguarding issues. There may be evidence to show they are getting better - I'm not sure.
But if we're given a clean piece of paper to rewrite their safeguarding policies, what would we put in place?
I was hoping for some cohesive rational thinking and so far Sir82 has come the closest to my way of thinking.
That said it still leaves two areas I'm uncomfortable with;
1) Are we willing to go to the authorities when the victim is now an adult and wants no part of it?
2) What procedures do we put in place to protect the kids in the congregation if the evidence is minimal and the police have decided that no further action is possible?

Goodbye friends
by Freeandclear ini'm not killing myself lol i just wanted to say a short goodbye.
i'm not leaving forever, i'm sure i'll pop in here and there but for the most part i haven't felt the need to check in here as often as i used to so i thought i'd say so long.
this journey we're all on (life) and trying to make sense of it all is a very personal one.

Personally I've never understood the need to make dramatic goodbye threads and would never indulge int the practice myself.

Don't Feel Like I Have Much In Common With Anyone I Know
by JW_Rogue inwent out with my family and all they talked about was how terrible trump is and how he'll surely bring the great tribulation.
then they started going on about people supporting trump showing that america is becoming racist.
i don't consider myself a trump supporter but i disagreed that that was the reason why he won.

Remember... the cry of "peace and security!" before the end. So.... they must feel Trump is going to bring about peace and security if they think the end is near.
When I see that I always think of the assembly in, I think 85. 1986 was declared by the UN as the year of Peace & security and they were ever so excited!
