A lot less than it would have done if they had to pay labour costs.
greetings, word lovers:.
in my job, i work with words and wrangle them into shape, well, in a manner of speaking.
one word might be mistaken for another, a word with either a similar or identical sound.
And if you ever fancy a good book on the English language, Bill Bryson's Mother Tongue is well worth a read.
One passage from there has always stuck in my mind. He was describing why computers traditionally struggle to translate English and he use two sentences as an example;
Time flies like an arrow.
Fruit flies like a banana.
:D

The word Scan has always slightly confused me.
it can mean to examine closely, i.e., an MRI scan was done, or it can mean to quickly and superficially look at something, i.e., to scan the paper. Both meanings seemingly the opposite of each other.
Also, elicit; as in to elicit a reaction, and illicit as in illegal.

Konceptual99 you provided a clear reason where you feel the policies has problems. I agree having more of a single policy would be better in the long run.
I don't think its possible to to have a single cohesive policy in a religious setting. There's too many variables and too many different circumstances. In a setting such as a school or youth club it's a lot more straightforward, in a religious setting less so.
i think that's reflected throughout different religions; I'm not sure Catholics have an if A then B type procedure. I would imagine their procedure is to phone the Bishop. Which is much the same as what the elders are told to do.
does the rank and file or the elders view us as disassociated or disfellowshipped or simply "weak" or possibly a "prodigal son" type?.
However, we have heard no more from he and his wife - probably as they have learned of my "official status" amongst the JWs!
Perhaps. But perhaps life gets in the way as it often does. In the same way they haven't contacted you, it sounds as though you haven't contact ed them.

Well, despite not going for twenty years I still class a fair few witnesses as my friends. We recently had a significant wedding anniversary and we had a party and invited a fair few of our old witness friends, some of whom we hadn't seen for 15 years. They all turned up and it was fine. It was nice to catch up.

I can think of 7 more that can join them.

Correct me if I am wrong but the WTB&TS do not have one comprehensive document covering the allegations and response to child sexual abuse from the organisation that Elders and the rank and file have access to when they feel the need to review it ?
I think their policy is 'phone the bethel'.
To be a little bit fair to them I do think I it's more difficult to produce a coherent policy in a pastoral setting. In education or a setting where you have DBS vetted people dealing with minors then it's fairly straightforward to have a written policy. In a setting like a religion or a church where the variables can be more disparate then perhaps asking for advice from bethel is the way to go.
Providing that advice is to act in the best interest of the abused and not in the in keeping their religion' should name out of the papers.
i often wonder if the current crop of witnesses, especially the youth and younger ones simply don't care about facts?.
i mean for some, even with knowledge of the past scandals, misleading teachings, mistruths, etc etc, they simply don't care.
"it is the truth after all".. they are so intertwined in the operations and activities of the society, that they cant see anything outside of it.
I think of all the blessings I have...first, I'm so called depressed about....uh? just because I can....then I think that if I'm depressed at least I'm depressed in-doors....I can open my refrig, I can lay on my bed...I have heat and hot water...I have a job...TV, cable, cellphone...nice clothes...good health most of the time...health insurance....car...must I go on....How dare I look God in the face and be depressed...
So what are you saying? That being a JW is your penance for having a normal life?
