  in the first thread in this series we looked at how the same protein molecule can be assembled by many different sequences of amino acids.. we took the example of cytochrome c and saw that there are many times more possible sequences than atoms in the known universe.

  however the sequences in humans and chimps are identical, and as we look at species less closely related to us by evolution the more differences we find.

  this is very compelling evidence for common ancestry.. in this post we are going to look more closely at the dna code behind those amino acid sequences.. the "language" of dna is made up of just 4 "letters" - a,c,g and t.. sequences of letters are read off in groups of 3 called codons.. acggcctcgaatgccttc would be read as acg gcc tcg aat gcc ttc.

  i intend for this to be one of a series of bite-sized ops on the evidence for evolution.. introduction to dna genes are sequences of dna made up of words (codons) each of which are three letters (bases) long.

  there are only four letters in the genetic alphabet (acg&t) each word or codon is the recipe for one amino acid.

  there are 20 different amino acids in living organisms.

  i think that i became a jehovahs witness because of my immaturity.

  i had some quirky personality traits, and i joined finding that i fit in because, as i said to myself: these people get me.

  No Sports Cars Please!

  i read on a jw forum that jw's came in for disapproval if they drove either sports cars or 2-door cars.

  the reasoning was that a driver couldn't easily take fellow dubbies out preaching in such a vehicle.

  was that ever official policy or just local nonsense from a grumpy po?.

  the recent buzz that has hit the online communities concerning the watchtower society and their evil offspring - the jw org - revolves around their apparent financial difficulties.

  many factors have been discussed - the real estate flips (and flops), the changes in meetings and field service, the need for donations to cover expenses, the push for donations.

  where does the money come from to operate the hospital information network?

  Landy, have you read/researched back into Crow's past postings with copious amounts of links , bot net address links and WTBTS links to this influential "arm".
  Maybe when you try to look into this your posing afterwards would be a bit different.

  Admittedly no, it may well be different now. When I was in, the HLC was just a few local elders who'd done a bit of boning up on blood substitutes.

  There isn't a 'medical arm'. The HLC's are just a bunch of elders who are able to talk to doctors about the possibility of alternative treatments. That's it. They aren't paid for anything - the costs of dissemination of any information to them will be negligible.

  .... That said, I don't think they've done themselves any favours with this jw tv thing.

  I saw it for the first time last week and was absolutely gobsmacked :)

  When I was a kid growing up, the GB were held in awe, muttered about in hushed respectful tones.

  That's been done away with with one roll of a video tape. It is staggeringly awful and I can only guess as to what today's JW teenagers think of Stephen Lett! :)
