  was Darwin an atheist?

  asking this q because my own feeling about this is that he probably believed in god but his evolutionary thesis is used to support atheism.

  There is a school of thought that one of the reasons he delayed publication of OTOOTS is that he didn't want to offend the sensibilities of his deeply religious family and peers. I think it's fairly certain that he was a believer before his voyages on the beagle but a lot less so after his return.

  okay so here goes...this is my first time on here.

  the rule in gene survival is "use it or lose it".. when a gene ceases to be useful, mutations are likely to accumulate as they are passed on down the generations.

  these broken genes are called pseudogenes and they provide powerful clues to our evolutionary past.. compared with other animals our ability to detect odours is poor, but if evolution is correct there was a time in our distant past when we relied on our sense of smell much more than we do today.. our olfactory receptors are coded for by or genes.

  comparing the correct answers in all of their assignments might not provide conclusive evidence.

  they could simply claim they had all carefully revised the same textbooks so it shouldn't be surprising that they all gave the same answers.

  Remember when you were a little dub and you would litter the world with your watchtower magazines thinking you making a difference. Your daily evolution thread is becoming quite redundant complete with the same arrogance of most relentless uber pioneer.
  If anyone is truly interested in the subject enroll in your local university or read a book because this is all becoming quite annoying.

  You could always start some threads showing the evidence for creationism.

  what was the date the governing body took the sole role of the faithful and discreet slave and how close was it to the end of the mayan calendar in december of 2012?

  seems to be quite a few posters recently pulling down the beliefs of jw's as not biblical or truly christian.

  maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong, i really don't care.. in some important ways though mainstream christians often behave better than jehovah's witnesses; most don't practice shunning or impose lethal medical prohibitions on their members.

  many are far more tolerant of the lgbt community and a few even make the awkward attempt to square the fact of evolution with their faith.. please note that i'm saying some, not all.. so i suppose it's fair to say that differing forms of christianity can be better or worse for individuals, families and the wider community.

  You can point at all the different world events you like - none of them either prove nor disprove a theist God, or a devil come to that.

  For you to ascribe them to a god or to a devil is only indicative of your state of mind - nothing to do with reality.

  in the first thread in this series we looked at how the same protein molecule can be assembled by many different sequences of amino acids.. we took the example of cytochrome c and saw that there are many times more possible sequences than atoms in the known universe.

  however the sequences in humans and chimps are identical, and as we look at species less closely related to us by evolution the more differences we find.

  this is very compelling evidence for common ancestry.. in this post we are going to look more closely at the dna code behind those amino acid sequences.. the "language" of dna is made up of just 4 "letters" - a,c,g and t.. sequences of letters are read off in groups of 3 called codons.. acggcctcgaatgccttc would be read as acg gcc tcg aat gcc ttc.
