Disfellowshipped for celebrating Xmas?
by Theburstbubble ini could really do with some advice on what's acceptable when you leave.
we have left of our own accord about 6 months ago.
we didn't celebrate xmas this year but have just celebrated my daughters birthday.. a friend of mine who is still a witness told me that an elder had approached her and asked if we had celebrated xmas and that if we did it was a df offence as is classed as apostasy!

The rule of thumb used to be that if local people still viewed you as a witness then the elders would be involved.
That's one of the reasons a too slow fade can be a bad idea - if you go to occasional meetings to keep family happy or go to the memorial every year then you will still be viewed as a witness.

When is a theory 'just a theory'?
by HB inthe titles of cofty's excellent recent posts are all preceeded by the words "evolution is a fact...".
richard dawkins is encouraging people to use the term 'fact' in relation to evolution, especially when debating with creationists as the word 'theory' is confusing to many, and the latter often takes the discussion off on an often unproductive tangent.
the following may be of interest, it's from the bbc website - part of a regular series of articles called 'the vocabularist', discussing the origin and meaning of words: .

That may be as well now Landy, but here we're talking about the bloodguilt from past deaths. It drips a LOT!
Can you honestly say you agree with the blood ban / fractions? Were those little lives worth the sacrifice to men Landy?
Honest heartfelt answer please!I think you have me mixed up with someone else - of course I don't agree with it.
I was just stating the current UK situation with regard to minors.

Do not Disassociate, Anull your baptism
by jwfacts ini am now a jedi, so trust me on this.. .
why dis-associate, you are just playing by the wts rules?
how can you dis-associate anyway, you never thought you were baptised as a watchtower society member, you thought your dedication was to god, so why formally disassociate from something you did not formally join?

Long winded ego driven explainations about false prophesy, blood transfusions, the animal count on Noah's Ark, your head hurting and all the other crap sounds like absolute piffle and to the dub reading it. like someone piss weak in the truth, drunk on their own self importance and stoned on apostate porn. Grow up people, be strong and act like the proud independant soul you know you are. Look back by all means but forget writting letters to people who don't give a shit about you. The best revenge of all is a happy life well lived.
Quoted, because, well, it's worth quoting.

When it it ain't a fact -like evolution for example.
See, you can't just say that.
To be taken seriously and not be viewed as just another nutter you need to offer evidence and reasoning to backup your assertions that the accepted status quo is wrong.

Not sure what it's like in other countries but in the UK as soon as it's recognised that there may be an issue there is a court order obtained and the child's best interests are served regardless of the parents' wishes. -
