In youth groups and similar it's a lot simpler to deal with. You can put the carers through a CRB check and give them training. That's not practical to do to a whole congregation who's role isn't necessarily to act as care givers to minors, but who might come in to contact with children.I was never a JW but come from an organization where every adult is required to be a Certified Adult Volunteer. We must attend an 8 hour training session annually to review how to IDENTIFY not investigate all forms of child abuse. Our instructions are we do not care if the state law is mandatory reporting if we suspect emotional, physical or sexual abuse - We Report!!!! Second part of the instructions since some of our adult leaders are MALE -- This is drilled over and over into their heads numerous times throughout the day of training. If one of the girls comes to you and says "I am being abused" You need to find a female adult CAV and turn this girl over to her immediately and get lost. No male adult is to be present under any circumstances. Call authorities immediately. The police and the authorities are far more capable of figuring out, they have TRAINED personnel both in the field of investigation and they have TRAINED personnel to deal with VICTIMS!!!!

The handling of child abuse allegations
by Landy inthere's a lot of criticism surrounding the jw's handling of chiild abuse within their ranks with a lot of it being well deserved.
but i'm interested to know how people on here think child abuse allegations should be handled.
there's a few scenarios below, the first couple are easy then it gets a bit more complex.

There's a few scenarios below, the first couple are easy then it gets a bit more complex. The focus should be on getting justice for the victim and perhaps more importantly safeguarding those children still in the congregation. I will play devil's advocate.
Here goes.
Scenario 1.
Parents of a 15 year old girl approach the elders and tell them that their daughter has alleged that Brother x (who is a serving MS) has inappropriately touched her while they were alone. He denies it.
Scenario 2
Parents of a 15 year old girl approach the elders and tell them that their daughter has alleged that Brother x (who is a serving MS) has inappropriately touched her while they were alone. He denies it. The parents stress that they don't want the poilce involved and that they won't be willing to make an official complaint and that the elders should just 'handle it'.
Scenario 3
A 40 year old women comes forward and says that a serving elder had sex with her when she was 12 and he was 17. She is not willing to go to the police. He is confronted and vehemently denies it.
Scenario 4
A 40 year old women comes forward and says that a serving elder had sex with her when she was 12 and he was 17. She is not willing to go to the police. He is confronted and admits it.
Scenario 5
A brother who is now 50 years old, comes to the elders and says that he had unlawful sex with a 13 year old when he was 35. He is extremely repentent. The 13 year is now an adult, left the JWs and is untraceable.

UK: Paul Shields "abused girls after luring them with video games"

That's not strictly true though Steve. The article is ambiguous about the point at which the elders found out - it could have been at the same time as the police investigation, it may have been earlier.
If you want a proper example of a cover up we, unfortunately, can still look locally :(

Ex wife getting a heart operation
by greenhornet inmy kids mother is getting a new heart valve.
there upset because she is making sure no blood is to be used and her jw cronies will be with her making it hard for my kids even to visit her in the hospital.
can jws get a pigs heart valve now and is her request by having no blood make this procedure difficult for the surgin for a successful operation?.
-
Landy
Turns out NOT A SINGLE DROP OF BLOOD WAS USED at any time before, during or after my operation. The procedures and efficiencies have progressed tremendously in the past 60 years,
They have, and blood isn't used for no reason as it's an expensive and scarce resource.
Not every operation and recovery goes exactly to plan, especially where the elderly are concerned, and when blood is needed, it's needed.

It make me sick how she makes sure her non JW children can not make life saving choices for her.
I certainly don't agree with the no blood policy, but I do feel strongly that we all have the individual right to believe what we want and make our own decisions.
Offer her advice, tell her calmly how they feel but understand that it has still got to be her choice and then respect it. Don't let it ruin their relationship.

The popularity fad of home-schooling!
by stuckinarut2 ini know this has been discussed over the years on this forum, but i just had to post this again!.
it seems that the popular fad amongst the "spiritual" ones in the local circuits is to home school their children instead of sending them to school.. now to clarify, we are in a very nice area of semi rural australia .
one with very community minded, and strong family values.

My father was never a JW, but a criminal on the run, with two kids to help him seem like a nice single dad. I didn't know that about him until i was almost 40. Anyway, he took us out of school. He bought lots of all kinds of books and we had to read on our own. He said it was because "taxes are immoral and the public schools supported by taxation are immoral."
Just read your earlier post in the thread and I'm imagining you as the child of Bonnie and Clyde. :D

@Landy-------you missed out about learning how to masturbate.
I think there were enough wankers at the Kingdom Hall to teach me how to do that.

Why so few XJWs online?
by StephaneLaliberte innot too long ago, i posted a topic where i pointed out that there are about 1 million xjws alive right now.
that number only represented the disfellowshipped ones... didn't account for those who had become publishers and left or anyone else who got hurt by that group by proxy.
so, why are there so few of them online?

That sounds really good and I'm sure the parents put a lot of effort into it but there's already such places where kids can go to do all those things.
They're called schools.
The social side effects of going to school are as important as the academic goals. Tell me which home schooled teenager learned to undo a bra strap with one hand? Got into a playground fight? Dropped water bombs on a teacher's head from the third floor? Turned a teacher's reliant robin over in the car park (only the uk ones will get that)? Got absolutely mortal on smuggled vodka during a chemistry lesson and had to be collected by very irate parents? Looking longingly at a girl you've fancied for 3 weeks and now know a love like no one ever has before you?
These are all rites of passage and to deny a child those experiences is a shame.
