Free speech means the government can't arrest you for what you say. It doesn't mean everyone is under obligation to listen to you or provide you with a venue. Berkeley was within its rights. They are not forcing Coulter to be silent, they are just choosing not to give her a venue.

UC Berkeley orders cancellation of Ann Coulter speech
by freemindfade inuc berkeley administrators canceled a scheduled speech by right-wing pundit ann coulter, saying they can’t protect participants from rioting if it goes ahead.

now i am no ann coulter fan (although the sjw police on here will accuse me of being a fan shortly after posting this), but i am a fan of free speech!

If a JW Came To Your Door How Would You Handle It?
by minimus injehovah's witnesses have never come to my door but they have come to my girlfriends door.
i have coached her as to what to say or ask but it appears that they always seem to come when she's not there.
.....just curious would you get into it with a jehovah's witness at your door especially if it was someone you did not know?.

Assuming I could keep a straight face, I'd ask them exactly how the came to the 1914 date (I used to have nightmares about being asked that out in service)

dealing with religion after leaving the witnesses
by joker ini’ve noticed many people posting on this site seem to have completely given up on religion/spirituality.. but some have attended services at another religion, or just follow their own heart regarding what to believe.. my question is how does anyone deal after leaving with all of the witness crap that we believed about babylon the great, the great harlot, spiritual prostitute, etc., etc.
i’m finding out that i seem to have built myself a pretty solid wall regarding religion.. some people can just chuck all beliefs into one basket saying that they are all basically garbage,,, and that is ok, no problem i respect that.. but for myself there is a certain part of my personality that needs a spiritual belief not like the witnesses in any way, but something to meditate on, and contemplate.. being a witness taught me how bad it is to actually think of god in any other way besides what the jw’s believe.
and now when i attend any other service, the dark jw side seems to pop out and seriously makes me believe that everything i see/do/say is wrong.

I consider myself at this point in time spiritual but agnostic. I don't have to believe in any God or religion to appreciate the beauty and wisdom that can be found in the worlds religions. Of course that's just my philosophy and since I've only been mentally out since January, I reserve the right to change my philosophy at any given time.
The biggest problem I think many of us have coming out of the JWs is black and white thinking. I know I struggle with this. The either/or mentality that says a religion is either true or its false. The reality is that it's both and neither. I don't think that there is one true religion, but I think many religions contain gems of universal truth.
I believe that all religion is a human construct, containing human wisdom. But that wisdom should not be discounted just because it's human. But it is hard to fight the decades of indoctrination that says there is true God given religion and false Satan given religion and human philosophies are foolish.

WT “Study” for 11th Sept 2016 – “Why Must We ‘Keep on the Watch’”?
by Nicholaus Kopernicus ini was really puzzled when i opened this edition of the wt magazine at the above “study”.
what on earth has this picture at the top of page 13 got to do with christian watchfulness?
i wasn’t making a connection at all.

A thought just occurred to me. Perhaps the GB are so insistent that people sit and listen to the music because they put subliminal messages in the music.

Latest Metal Detecting Find
by cofty innow the harvest is underway up north i can get out for a walk with the metal detector in the evening.
i am lucky to live on a historic rural estate and i have permission from the landowner to detect.. this is a coin that popped up last night.
it was only about 2 inches deep and had been tumbling around in the plough soil for the last 750 years.. it is a silver penny of king henry iii.

Congratulations on the great find! How exciting! This made me think of a really great novel I read called Falls the Shadow by Sharon Kay Penman which is about the reign of Henry III and his contentious relationship with his brother in law Simon de Montfort (it also deals with England's relationship with Wales). The author is a historian and her books are very historically accurate.

This is my first 4th of July celebration. I'm going downtown to see the fireworks, I even bought a flag scarf to wear just for this (although I might wear it when I go vote for the first time too).

The last video in the 2016 convention...
by problemaddict 2 in...is an epic triumph is emotional manipulation.
bringing together all of the stories they told thus far and placing them int he "new world" complete with the little boy who was killed in a car accident coming back from the dead.. i have a good friend who is stuck in with family and plays the role.
he said everyone was crying, and the people next to him rated the videos by how many tissues they needed to dry their eyes.

I've been mentally out for a few months and physically out for two weeks. To me that last video screamed cult. I can imagine people still in who have unacknowledged doubts feeling very uncomfortable with that video.

JWs predatory letter writing in the news.

I too think that letter was probably a coincidence (leaving a letter and a tract to someone who you've visited before counts as a return visit), but the JW could have also been thinking "this person experienced a loss. This tract might help, but I don't want to be too obvious about" which ended up as an epic fail.
Some JWs do read obituaries and look up the addresses of the family members mentioned to write "condolence" letters filled with "hope" from the Bible. My mother used to do this often. I only did it as an emergency option when I needed to make my hours for the month. But it always felt wrong to me.

Underground stone rings made by Neanderthals
by freemindfade inhttps://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/scientists-underground-stone-rings-made-by-neanderthals/2016/05/25/1fa17e98-229b-11e6-b944-52f7b1793dae_story.html.
two mysterious stone rings found deep inside a french cave were probably built by neanderthals about 176,500 years ago, proving that the ancient cousins of humans were capable of more complex behavior than previously thought, scientists say..

And don't forget that everyone living outside of Africa has a tiny bit of Neanderthal DNA in them from when modern humans migrated out of Africa and intermingled with the Neanderthals. (this fact is one of the things that made me finally examine the doubts I had about the borg's interpretation of the Bible).
