Gee I remember when we would go door to door and tell people that the bible was easy to understand. That you just needed to read it in context and how it agrees with itself, and that anyone if they are sincere can come to the right conclusion.

Guess that does not work for the GB (at least for the last 10 years I think).
Now the bible is a mystery only they can explain.
Doesn't sound like other religions, does it :)

Such as with the "overlapping" bandage of a fix on the Generation doctrine. (How effing ridiculous is that?!?!?!?)

That was the sign that They Have No Idea Whats Going On, and are worried.

Funny enough, I gave the concluding talk at the District introducing the Overlapping.
I tried for weeks to make sense of it and couldn't.
BUT! I am an elder in a congo spitting distance from Headquarters who was chosen to give the concluding talk (something I have never seen), I engaged cognitive dissidence in high gear.

Now if they came up with the Overlapping in 1979, they could say, see jehober is guiding us.
But when you fix a problem after the fact, you know all they are doing is making it up.

Iriddle80 - I have wondered about the GB a long time.

I think when it comes down to it - they are Victims of Victims.

That does not excuse anything of course.

I also think the are REALLY grasping at straws right know trying to figure out WTF is going on since every expectation and prediction has NOT happened.

Some are acting as if "working hard to keep people in" is something new? And that it has to do with money? And Shunning, like it's a new strategy?

None of this is new, and has nothing to do with financial issues.

Remember, this is not an org that started as a scheme to make money (a la L. Ron. Hubbard).
There were many sincere people who thought 100% this was the truth.

Yes if DFing ended, it would slowly end the cult as we know it.

If field service was not required, it would slowly end the cult as we know it.

If meeting attendance was not so heavily required, it would slowly end the cult as we know it.

The only way to use blood that has been outside the body is to pour it on the ground.

So where did those blood fractions come from WT?

Didn't they all come from MISUSED blood!

A technical clarification re "New Scientist"

the following is not a criticism of the wts.

i am providing this for technical clarification and my expectation for accuracy.. endnotes 43 and 45 on page 27 of the wts’s brochure, “the origin of life” refer to the new scientist periodical of 30 may 2009.. the text in the wts’s brochure does not match the text of the new scientist’s online article.

further investigation shows that the online text does not accurately replicate the text that appeared in print in the physical magazine.

2 things!

1. Out of all science based magazines, the New Scientist is the least reliable and has a pretty bad reputation in the science community.

2. I my years of giving talks at District Assemblies where the WT OFTEN used quotes outside sources to prove ITS points, I found discrepancies and TOTAL misrepresentations almost on every occasion. It was one of the things that helped me see the WT is a cult.

so.. you are a jw or studying, living your life and doing your bit, feverish of spreading the good news to everyone that will listen!.

you prep yourself for meetings, doing your ministry and applying all that there is into your daily life.. so....i have a question... you know... my clogs.

when you where completely in the religion, did you ever think about the impact of your way of life and religion towards others, specially those that lived around you such as good friends or family members that didn’t studied?

Yes I thought that.

I suppressed the obvious double standard, like "no its ok to question your religion dear bible student, even though your minister says not to".

I suppressed the feelings I had that somehow I should be active in supporting a charity I thought was doing good.

There were many things like this in my 40+ years as a JW, but I would suppress it because of...

1. I want to live forever and the WT says what to do and I have to trust them because the love me, and its what Jah wants.

2. Fear of stepping out a little and facing backlash from friends and elders.
