Predictions for the next decade?
by jehovaxx inas it’s nearly the new year my prediction over the next decade or so will see the sense of urgency dwindle.
then some huge huge changes.
for example by 2034 in a decades time, they will have address the 1914 issue and will come out and say we can’t be dogmatic.

9 million is a very conservative estimate of the number of JWs because most other methods of counting find far higher numbers of JWs. For example Watchtower claims only 1.2 million JW publishers in the United States whereas the US religion census cited above found 3 million JW adherents in the United States. The same pattern holds in other countries where censuses regularly produce far higher numbers of JWs than the official publisher count.

Education video this midweeks meeting
by jehovaxx inthere is an item this week all about yang ones leaving school.. the two brothers go to a career advisor seminar.
one brother thinks it’s good to work hard full time while you are young and tries to encourage his friend to as well.. his friend (who is the good jw trust the gb no matter what they say)) he wants a part time job.. the video shows him dreaming about investing his money on his phone and the chart goes up, he drives a nice car and seems to be doing well financially.. then he reads the scripture in proverbs and next you see that investment chart go down in the red and he is so pleased he just got a low paid part time job.. this infuriates me.
how many of us are now struggling because we were told to get menial part time jobs and we were told the end would have been here by now.. i will never tell a young person to listen to the gb advice on this.

Blood Fractions
by alice.in.wonderland insomeone is pressing me about blood fractions on an unrelated thread, so i just moved the topic to an appropriate location.. "the point for me in every thread you touch is your sickening dishonesty and nauseating apologies for the old men in brooklyn who tell you what to do.. they have told you that products made from blood don't use blood, and you are so corrupt and gullible you just accept it.".
i accept any bible-based religion that adheres to the bible as its authority.. the purpose of this magazine, the watchtower, is to honor jehovah god, the supreme ruler of the universe.
just as watchtowers in ancient times enabled a person to observe developments from afar, so this magazine shows us the significance of world events in the light of bible prophecies.

my guess is most jws know it’s not true on a subconscious level to an extent but they don’t want to think about it too much and would never ever voice it out loud.. but this is probably true with all religions around the world?.

Sunk cost fallacy applies to so much. People get comfortable.
Maybe the place someone lives and the job they have are not exactly right for them but they are comfortable. There is no harm in staying as they are, so If it ain’t broke why try to fix it.
The area you live now, you know it, it’s all familiar, you have friends and you are comfortable there? Why don’t you move? Answer sunk cost fallacy.
Most people are in the religious beliefs they were handed down by their relatives or simply the country they were born into. Why don’t they change as they don’t really believe all of it?

this is certainly true for all JWs who if they really stopped to think about it, they don’t believe all the GBs interpreting of all scriptures.
but they have so much invested in so many years building friendships and relationships. Sunk cost fallacy yes, but what is the actual cost?
what is the harm in staying physically in while mentally either totally out or at least partly out being agnostic?
there is no harm from where I’m sitting. I have really good friends in the congregation and find it very interesting studying the Bible with a critical mind.
I don’t know the truth about the interpretation of these scriptures, or even if God exists. But for now I’m taking pascals wager that possibly God exists and the Bible is very interesting to study with JWs every week.
With some friends in the cong we love to chat about the portion of the Bible we are studying midweek meeting. We all have critical thinking skills and often ask very thought provoking questions

…dialed-up-to-eleven shunning of xjws by their witness relatives.. it reminds me of back in the day, listening to some of the over-the-top vitriol displayed by hard-core loyalists when the topic of evolution or apostates came up….
…i was gobsmacked when i finally realized these guys weren’t offended and indignant because they thought it was lies….

Absolutely it is. It is the course of wisdom. Unless you are absolutely sure about your interpretation of the Bible, and if anybody says that then almost certainly they are not correct.
PIMA stabilises you. It’s the conclusion the very end result of a lifetime of deep study. If you are not where I am yet then please do more study of all so called experts from all the different religions and beliefs that you can find.
I have several decades of deep searching and I’ve come to the satisfaction that humans just don’t know and I’m content with that.
I still have a positive hope in the Bibles promises and I’m free of lies like eternal torture in hell.
Im now a very old man. Think my best before date is starring me in the face. I will find out very soon what happens after death. Perhaps nothing, this is probably my most likely scenario, maybe the atheists are correct.
But I find being physically in the JWs benefits me. Having every visit me so much is very encouraging. I do say things that some in the congregation may find cryptic. But they don’t stop to think about what I really mean.
They tell me how sure they are in the Bibles promises. I say things like “having the hope has really helped me and to keep talking to everyone about the hope is so encouraging”
The truth is I’m not certain about the interpretation or if the hope is even real, but I find it’s better to have that Hope being agnostic than no hope at all being atheist.

yes. Lots of talk on this forum about it. Whatever you decide about God is a wager even if you don’t think about it at all that is a wager. I’m PIMA that is the wager I’ve decided to place.
There is possibly some truth to most religious beliefs including JWs. I also feel many benefits to being part of a community even if you don’t necessarily believe it there are still benefits

In my OP I said that I'm fascinated by people like yourself who rejected JW teachings and then decided not only was the religion false, but the Bible and the stories of Jesus and God are too. (Or might be).
I’m fascinated by people who decide JWs are not the truth but other interpretations of the Bible are.
Surely in the end most people come to the conclusion that those of us who become agnostic did.
We just don’t know, and be comfortable in the knowledge that we just don’t know. There are so many interpretations and they may have some truth to them or maybe not. Almost certainly there is more to it.
