  while most talk about the end of reporting for publishers, i think the doctrinal change is even bigger.. repentance after start of gt still possible?

  what does that mean for the judgement message, they pushed a bit lately?.

  will that be really just before armageddon?

  That's a good point about the "Babylon has fallen" message. They should really be ramping up that message if they believe it the precursor, the thing that lets everyone know that the JWs were right, so that they know who to go to for the last minute repentance. It's great how you've connected the dots. I wonder how many JWs will do the same, saying, "If that's the case, shouldn't we be pressing home the XYZ message?" Do you foresee any such message becoming the new focus, or has the GB simply failed to realise the implications of their own doctrinal change?

  In mainstream Christianity, last minute repentance is generally referred to as a "deathbed confession". A person goes through life "sinning" and then "give their life to Christ" when they know it's all ending. The episode of Blackadder where he is the archbishop of Canterbury gives an example of how it worked in those days.

  hi all.. i've posted this in humour given that most of jw doctrine changes and flip flops are just so.. as stated, if there is now to be a 'last minute redemption'.what happens to the aforementioned folk?.

  cannot wait for a explane-ation.

  It always struck me as unfair that the 8000000 faithful JWs who survived Armageddon were rewarded by labouring for 1000 years to rebuild the ruined Earth so that it would be habitable for the 8000000000 who died. Still under the direction of the GB. All those old pictures of the Paradise Erf. Plenty of wooden houses being built, but nary a sawmill in sight.

  Real reasons behind this change?

  just a good conversation at home about the hour report change.. we think the change was not impmemented because the gb are such a lovely bunch of old grandpa's having the best in mind for us individuals.. there will be only, and we say only, an organizational reason for it.

  a legal reason, to protect jw.org and it's officials and wealth.. next step?

  maybe selling more kh and when jw hollywood studio's in rampoo are ready a change to tv subscription.. what do you think?

  1975 represented 6 "days" of 1000 years since creation and the seventh "day" , symbolically the "day" of rest, was going to be the Millennium. So 1975 was going to be the year of Armageddon.

  There was a lot of it going about at the time. The seventies was a time of upheaval. A lot of "Last Days" books were published by mainstream Christian authors, including: "Armageddon, Oil and the Middle East Crisis" (1974) by John F. Walvoord, "The Late, Great Planet Earth" (1971) by Hal Lindsay, and "What in the World will happen Next" (1974) by Salem Kirban are some examples. The JWs were just one group among many who were trying to tie interesting times to Bible prophecy.

  This Generation/ 1975

  i was born in 1977 & came in as a convert in 2003 --- so i have no idea what went on before my time.. however i have been familiar with the scriptures of "nobody knows the day or hour" & " it will come as a theif in the night" meaning that it was sure but unpredictable time.

  how could anyone belive that anyone else ( organization or not) put a date on it?.

  also what was the significance of 1975 anyway?

  Elsewhere I recounted the story of a girl I knew who was born in 1976. Her mother was constantly hounded by her JW sister who told her "That baby's never going to be born"; i.e. the mother would be killed in Armageddon, which was imminent. So the family joke came about how she was "the baby that would never be born".

  1975 was very real to JWs at the time. And their literature had references to that date. The GB has since learnt to only imply dates and never to put a date in writing. 1914 itself has all but fallen by the wayside; they hardly reference it anymore.

  Just revisiting this thread after the announcements at the Annual Meeting. There's speculation that Tony Morris was removed because he was too hardline and old school to approve of the changes regarding counting hours and the change that allows for last minute repentance during the GT. Could his removal be more to do with boring bureaucracy than the more exciting reasons that have been speculated about?

  i wrote this story in another thread and thought that it could do with its own post for the benefit of those who claim that 1975 was never a thing.. in the 90s i had a conversation with a girl who had been born in 1975 (maybe 1976, now that i'm remembering the dates; she was 18 in 1994).

  her mother's sister (a jw) used to point at the mother's baby bump and say something like "that baby's never going to be born".

  presumably meaning "armageddon's imminent and you're going to die!".

  Apparently it was the family joke from then on that that girl was "the baby who was never going to be born".

  Rattigan, the JWs totally believed that stuff, and it wasn't people"running ahead of Jehovah "; they were being told this from platforms around the world (this happened in Australia).

  Edited to clarify: She was probably due in 1976 (she was 18 in 1994), hence the "will never be born") thing, the pregnancy being during 1975.

  Did Anyone Have Fun With Their Field Service Reports?

  now that there is new light on reporting hours in field service, it's raised a few questions for me, who was never in the jws.

  did any of you ever have fun with the field service report slips, by finding creative ways of reporting time without raising suspicions in those who oversaw the collection of those slips?.

  also, can anyone upload an image of what the slips looked like, or point me to a post that gives uploaded examples of the sort of paperwork that was familiar to jws in good standing?.

  Would someone have words with you if you turned in a report with something written down the bottom like "I'm claiming 123 XYZ Street for after Armageddon"?
