The Catholic saints simply subsumed the roles of the pagan gods that preceded them. For example St. Eligius took over the role of Vulcan/Hephaistos from the pagan pantheon. Just as objects, jobs and classes of people had patron gods, they now have patron saints. Just "venerate" (worship) your patron saint and you'll be fine! 🙄
A lot of "saints" weren't even real historical people. There's the above example of St Brigid. And of course, St Christopher.

SadElder, do you think that the GB members allow themselves to be wined and dined by approved members of the lower classes? Being taken to dinner by wealthy JWs would be a very innocent looking form of Simony, and being shouted (treated) to NY's finest dining establishments would certainly beat even the GB's standard Bethel fare.

this seems to be a lame attempt to avoid liability considering that they require time reports and have formal meetings for field service at the kingdom hall.. this is a bit of a dilemma.
reporting time and formal meetings for field service are important methods of control, however it's not clear if the organization is willing or able to handle the potential liability that may come from this.. imagine what would happen if they lost these methods of control.
Don't be obtuse; "The Society" used to be shorthand for all things related to the WT and JWs. And don't pretend that the local congregations don't do everything they're told to by Bethel.

This was a prescient post. I didn't realise that the pressure to not report hours and thus reduce the WT's culpability in certain cases was already on 11 years ago! That it took them this long to follow through is annoying, if not seemingly typical. Will it take another 11 years before they do something about the shunning of children? 🙄
