  I remember reading a self-help book where the author basically said that assassins were worse than terrorists (back when the Kennedy era was still relatively fresh). I couldn't understand the logic. An assassin takes risks to go after a powerful person that they believe is responsible for whatever imagined transgression, whereas a terrorist just kills defenseless little people.

  Perhaps the GB feels safe in their guarded compound, but Hamas's recent attacks only used equipment that's readily available in the US.

  Drearyweather, thanks for the insight. The guy was obviously out to hurt and kill (ordinary and powerless) people. Did he test his system to see if it would work before trying it out for real? Did no-one notice, if he did?

  Why did the WT spokesman try to deny that the bloke was even there?

  Probably a good idea, but are they going to search every tiffin box? They might want to bring back on site food service if they don't want to have to search everybody's lunch.

  Didn't the fact that a bloke on his own had four tiffin boxes raise any eyebrows?

  An old thread, but I thought I'd add another question to it: What if a JW married or dated someone who was disfellowshipped?

  Would they be disfellowshipped? Are there clear rules on the subject?

  It's always tempting to want the government to go in hard to punish and stop abuses. The trouble is that you can create more problems. A lot of freedoms could be jeopardised, such as freedom of religion, freedom of association, freedom of speech, etc.

  I bet that the German branch of the JWs wasn't rife with CSA cases from 1933-1945...

  Vidiot, the old threat was veiled in the distorted bible verse "Where would we go?", that JWs were the only support network, and that being cut off from them was the ruination of a JW's life. I wonder when "critical mass" was/will be reached, when the number of exes potentially providing support is enough to counterbalance the WT 's pull and influence.

  Desirous, unfortunately, the courts can be slow too. There's a bit of a "how long?" factor there, too, sad to say. Fortunately, governments are beginning to wake up to the organisation's abuses.

  thank you atlantis for the emails that you send out to so many of us.

  in one email that i received dated 21st october was a jw document title "information for patients requiring chemotherapy or surgery".

  the organization never ceases to shock and i was disgusted with the information included in this document because it leads to their followers not getting the best medical care, not just because of their no blood policy but because of the other repercussions which they highlight in this information guide.. they begin by stating they are not giving medical advice, just information to help individuals make their own decisions.. point 7 states.

  Yeah, it's hard to capture "tone of voice" when merely posting text. 🙊

  It sucks that there is a "drag factor" that comes with their prohibitions. As you suggest in your mother's case, even if they repealed the blood doctrine tomorrow, many would continue to follow today's prohibition, because to them, it was always Jehovah's will. It was such for all their life, and a change in policy wouldn't change their lifetime of perception that receiving a blood transfusion would be wrong in Jehovah's eyes.

  I mean that they are falsely practicing medicine. They're giving medical advice, no matter how much they try to deny it. One man's "advice" is another man's commandments.

  TonusOH, the commandments they gave your mother constitute medical directives; they were acting as though they were qualified medical professionals, even though you quite rightly identify them as quacks. If only the various medical boards could go after them for illegally practicing medicine 💊💉!

  Thought on “0 hours” reporting

  so everyone knows the “big news” of this past weekend, no more reporting of hours, placements, return visits, etc.

  beginning november 1, jws just tick a box indicating whether they “shared in any form of the ministry during the month”.. so there was a brief comment by a redditor that seems like a brief joke “throwaway comment” but after thinking about it….why not?.

  the idea is, what is “any form of the ministry”?

  dropoffyourkeylee, That's an interesting observation, that changing the business model changes the skill set required to advance within that business model. I wonder what type of people they are now trying to advance within the system?
