"Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia", and "the WT never said anything about 607", will be the new refrain when it changes.

things got a bit lively after the agm leaks in october.
there was a lot of discussion going on on this board for a few months.
now that all the leaks have been more or less confirmed as policy, and we've had lively discussions at length concerning the changes, things seem to have slowed down here.. a few suggestions have been raised as to what might be the next changes, such as women being allowed to wear slacks (in the usa, anyway), decoupling from 1914 as an anchoring date and others.. so, what changes do you think will be announced this year?.

It certainly gives the lie to the idea that they are easing up on the slaves and becoming kinder and gentler. We thought, for just a moment, that they may be lightening up, if only a little.
When apparently it was really a lawyer's game of 4d chess going on, further weakening the ability of publishers to claim that they were just following orders and that the WT told them what to do.
We were under the impression that the non-reporting of publishers hours was some sort of side issue, but in reality, it may have been the most important move, in the long game, announced last year.

Obrien, I started a thread like that a few months ago. As someone who was never in and always had a sense of humour and scepticism informed by the likes of Monty Python and Spike Milligan, I imagined that there were witnesses who might bend the rules as far as possible without actually snapping them in half.
i was shocked, really shocked.
what i am doing now is so acceptable to the friends around me.. my friends are all doing it.
it is so normal in the society,.
Idiot troll.
Motive? Arguably to try and make exes look bad?
Now, every post is simply upping the ante, seeing how much crap he can make up before getting banned.

"I still say Scholar is trolling us"
The bluster is cute. π
the book reasoning from the scriptures was released in the 1980's, and it was used at virtually every meeting for service, every service meeting, and every theocratic ministry school meeting thereafter.
many jws had copies bound together with their bibles.
it was huge in jw land back then.. at that time, with the reasoning book, jws were trained to keep conversations going in spite of objections, to almost stick their feet in people's doors to keep conversations going, to defend "the truth," to argue doctrine, etc.. compare the situation today with that of the 80's.
I remember that. You knew that the Dub at the door was serious when they pulled out "The Book"! Accompanied by the first few bars of Toccata and Fugue in DMinor, of course!
You were always in for a robust game of "Bible back-and-forth" once that came out. The Dubs back then knew the scriptural references that they used to back up their assertions (never mind that it was usually devoid of context, but they knew their supposed scriptural source).
Now they run like the clappers!

Can someone explain the difference between "volunteers" and "volunteer workers" for a charity? Supposedly the difference between the two explains why publishers aren't required to record hours anymore and pioneers, elders, COs, etc. are.
It also seems to come back down to the "level of control" thing. WT theoretically can't be held responsible for the action of "volunteers", is what they're arguing for? Is that right?
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-01-29/jehovahs-witnesses-not-reporting-all-child-sex-abuse-to-police-/103320582.
national news story in australia today.. the inquiry heard that since the 1950s, the witnesses hid more than 1,000 cases of child sexual abuse.the faith group did not report one case to police over that time.the royal commission was announced in 2012 and the final report was delivered in 2017.in the wake of the institutional failings exposed by the commission, western australiaβs mandatory reporting requirements were expanded to include religious ministers in 2021.it meant that they would have to report child sexual abuse to authorities.however, despite it being post royal commission, documents show how the religious group conducted its own internal investigation.the religious leaders did not report the matter to police.

resolute Bandicoot: "Ha ha ha... that one news item just undid 10 years worth of witnessing"
The truth about how they actually conduct their affairs usually does! π

Sue, the Dub at my door said, "But, but... it was a government mandate!" And I said: "You've defied governments before, but your cowardly governing body folded like a cheap poker hand in the face of a glorified flu!"
The door to door work was the big distinctive that differentiated them from other religions. Then, the UN (the beast) said: "Stop doing it!" And they meekly said: "Yes, sir!", and they stopped doing something they said they would always do to prove that they were the true witnesses of Jehovah. π

Obrien, even the brief list you mentioned, did you ever think that those things would change, back when you were in?
What piqued my interest and brought me back to discussing all things JW (I was never involved in the org in any way) was the fact that they stopped field service during Covid. That crap was sacrosanct for a hundred years and then they dropped it like a hot potato in the face of a bit of government pressure! You know, the guys who were proud of defying governments and having their people sent to prison accordingly? π³π±π
