It's kind of sad. They fought tooth and nail, under the banner of religious freedom, to retain the right to be utter arseholes. And yet, a bit of pressure and suddenly they're all a "kinder, gentler" high control organisation. 🙄 They're a pathetic shadow of their former nasty selves. Still nasty, just slightly less so. Kind of like beating the slaves three times a day, instead of five times as they did in the "good old days".

Journeyman, your suggestion isn't outside the realms of possibility. The GB may actually inching towards a "final message". You rightly point out the short term advantages of such a move.
I just don't see the current GB having the cojones to drop the big one like that. Even the giants of the old guard very quickly learnt the lesson of failed anticipation and quickly tired of whipping up short term end times enthusiasm.

Virgochik, the famous missionary, Dr Livingston, taught himself Latin while working on a weaving loom in Victorian England. Perhaps some loyal witnesses were able to give themselves a college level legal education from reading Awake between washing windows. 🙄

Thought on “0 hours” reporting
by FFGhost inso everyone knows the “big news” of this past weekend, no more reporting of hours, placements, return visits, etc.
beginning november 1, jws just tick a box indicating whether they “shared in any form of the ministry during the month”.. so there was a brief comment by a redditor that seems like a brief joke “throwaway comment” but after thinking about it….why not?.
the idea is, what is “any form of the ministry”?

Vidiot: "…prolific door-to-door records aren’t really required anymore for tax-exemption…"
This is an interesting thought that could warrant further investigation, should anyone be arsed to do so (I certainly couldn't be!). Has the US equivalent of a charities commission, or the IRS, or both changed anything in this regard?

Jehovah's Witness' bid to be excluded from abuse inquiry dismissed
by Tahoe inlink to article.
a legal bid by the jehovah's witness church to get out of being part of the royal commission of inquiry into abuse in care has been dismissed by the high court in wellington.. after nearly three years of behind-the-scenes legal wrangling to avoid scrutiny from the inquiry, the church applied for a judicial review in june.. at a hearing, held earlier this month it argued it was beyond the inquiry's scope because it did not operate institutions that cared for children or vulnerable people and the inquiry had uncovered no evidence of abuse in that context.. lawyers representing the inquiry argued that jehovah's witness elders - equivalent to ministers or pastors - exercised a level of control over the congregation that allowed them access to children.. the inquiry informed abuse survivors who gave evidence to the inquiry in relation to the jehovah's witnesses of the news this afternoon.. "we have received advice from the high court that none of the causes of action brought by the jehovah's witnesses has succeeded and the application for judicial review has been dismissed.
the judge's reasons are not yet available, but are expected in the near future," the email to survivors, seen by rnz, said.. the church was the only faith-based institution in the country to legally challenge its involvement in the inquiry, although it had attempted to challenge its status in other countries where similar inquiries have also been carried out.. the inquiry said, in a statement, that the dismissal "means the royal commission can continue to investigate the jehovah's witnesses, and all other faiths, in accordance with the pastoral care approach we have been applying since 2019".. "reasons for the high court's judgment are not yet available but are expected in the near future.

Diogenesister, BigDog in this thread was saying that the organisation doesn't simply not have room for children in the way they do things, but that it actively dislikes children because they bring no advantages to the organisation and they divert resources away from it.
It reminds me of a documentary I saw about Nazi death camps. A commandant of such a camp was asked why no compassion was shown to children. To him, children were just "useless eaters". He could justify providing a bare minimum of resources to keep his adult slave workers alive, but he saw no point in keeping children alive.
When he made those comments, it chilled me how similar the WT attitudes and those of the Nazi war-machine were.

"I'm sure the commission would be thinking okay what are these people hiding? Was it a delaying tactic to give them time to falsify or delete documents from their files?"
Wasn't there a leak that a New Zealand elder said that they had been instructed by Bethel to get a shredder and delete anything CSA related?

"Thankfully, I’ll never be able to meet those qualifications to give away my labour for free."
Great way of putting it. They want people of high calibre, but offer them no equivalent value in return.

I said "... to the exclusion of heaven". The Beatitudes mention earth once and heaven three times. Irenaus is quoting the Beatitudes.
