Colossians 1:15-16 and the word "other"
by yogosans14 in"he is the image of the invisible god, the firstborn of all creation; because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities.
all [other] things have been created through him and for him.
" (col. 1:15-17, for context.

The two witnesses rule almost guarantees that the elders* will not convict a child abuser (unless they confess. And what are the chances of that?) Parents who press the issue are in danger of disfellowshipment for gossip, particularly if they try to warn other parents within the congregation, among other things.
* And this is one of the main sticking points: police work and investigation of crime is the purview of the superior authorities, i.e. secular governments. The various BOEs have no business in these matters.

Diogenesister, that list of yours makes a great point: the WT demands the shunning of people for reasons far beyond the scope of the "sins" Paul pointed out. Going beyond the written word, so to speak.

Wasn't he technically part of the 144,000? Why didn't he partake? 🤣

Forget 1914, the 1975 generation are now passing away!
by nowwhat? inwe still have quite a few elderly here that came in as young families in the late 1960's-early 70's because soon, yes very soon they would enter the new system and never grow old.
it's now one year away from 50 years since 1975. just in the last couple years i've seen them come down with alzheimer's, cancer, brain tumors, becoming invalid etc.
the children of them that are now around 60 are just so distraught at seeing their parents deteriorate.

Some do, some have turned their backs on religion altogether, some (like me) were never in and are here to understand those door-knocking people a bit better. You'll find that this is a "broad church"😉
Some are still "physically in, mentally out" (PIMO). They can't leave because of the whole disfellowshipping and shunning mess.

4-1-05 WT Galileo and Catholic Church: Lessons to be learned
by blondie ini won't go through the whole account of galileo; he believed what his eyes told him, not the church, and died under house arrest.. .
the wts has these comments:.
because galileo rejected an interpretation of scripture based on greek philosophy, he stood condemned!

That's all very interesting and all, but why resurrect this thread, instead of starting a new one and linking to and quoting this one?*
* I may have been guilty of the same thing; when you do a search, you don't always realise how old a thread is. I'm trying to mend my ways.

a watcher: "2023 Memorial Partakers Worldwide: 22,312"
It was around 10,000 two decades ago. Anyone baptised before 1935* would probably be more than a hundred years old. There can't be 22,000 of 'em still alive. What's the criteria these days?
*I think. I know it's 1930 something...

What has changed since January 2009?
by KerryKing inhi, i was df'd in jan 09. have not been in touch much with the jws apart from a few memorials i went to.. what with all the online presence they have nowadays, it just feels like a totally different religion.
i have seen them with their tablets and phones at the hall, hardly any physical bibles or books at all, makes me think how ai (or the borg) could so easily change words and phrasing in the bible to suit them without making a big deal of it, like 'a new light' talk or wt article.
doctrinally has much changed since 2009?.

Ah, I didn't realise that she had some connection with Egypt. It makes more sense like that. Although slimboyfat's gender swapping observation is still there.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up, everybody!
What is the figure now for partakers? I'm guessing that very few of them were alive and baptised before 1935 (is that the cut off year?) Is there now some special dispensation or new understanding about who can partake. I seem to remember something about those who are convinced that they are part of the 144,000 being allowed to partake. How does that work?
