Why does it matter whether or not Armageddon is near?
by TxNVSue2023 inwhy does it matter whether or not the end of the world ( (armageddon) is near?
if it was next week, next year, next decade, next century?
what is to be gained by knowing how close or far it is?

It matters because the WT said it matters.
"It's always been your choice."
That's not how it was presented to her.
Bizarrely, the WT in the 1950s was berating mainstream Christian denominations for not making false predictions about the imminence of the end. Those denominations turned out to be right, while the WT continued to declare dates and were proven to be a false prophet. There was recently a thread about it.

We're resigning to spend more time with our families.
(Watch for this one when governments start getting closer to holding the GB responsible for the damage done by the blood, CSA and shunning policies)

New ministry, you don’t give a witness
by Mikejw inthere are assignments on the life and ministry school now where they are suggested to just talk to people without giving a witness.. they are supposed to practice starting conversations with strangers and listening to them to talk about whatever they want to talk about .
there is an assignment this week where the conversation ends without giving a witness.
jws don’t look like jws anymore and now they don’t actually preach.. you could get bearded men with sweaters or other such tops and women in pants or slacks coming upto you in the park or on the street and starting a conversation with you.. then you hear them listening to you and talking about whatever they think that you wanted to talk about .

Mikejw: "Yes that’s exactly what they do now and then pat themselves on the back thinking they are doing what Jesus told them to do.
"I think the idea is indeed to build rapport and after enough time invite them to the meetings."
If that's the strategy, then this is where it all falls down. It's not like the WT has any special meeting with an evangelistic bent for "interested one" with no grounding in JW doctrine. It's not like they're handing out leaflets for a JW version of a Billy Graham crusade, where the JW "gospel" will be preached and then the newcomers will be invited to "come forward" to "give your life to Jehovah".
And it's not like there are any other"pull factors" like tea and bikkies after the service, or social gatherings and outings.
What's the point? Is it just more busywork, but made a little less unpleasant?
At least now that the JWs don't have to wear suits, the people being targeted by these chatty JWs won't be thinking they're being set up for a MLM sales pitch. 🙄

I doubt that there would be a mass extinction event for the GB. They would exercise basic precautions to prevent such thing, like eating separately, travelling on different planes etc. Their meetings are probably on zoom, rather than in person. In their position, a healthy level of paranoia is probably wise.
Edited: I know I cancelled out my first post in this thread, but there can be different approaches to the same problem. Making sure that everyone eats the same food may prevent one of them from poisoning the food supply. Eating separately ensures that at least some will survive an attempt.

How they could change blood doctrine
by Person inmany people say gb will soon dump blood doctrine to appear less fanatical.
others saying it is impossible for them to do that because of legal ramifications.
i think there is a way that could potentially be solution to those problems.

I remember discussing the blood doctrine with some uninformed JWs. They were under the impression that the blood doctrine had been established as soon as transfusion was invented. I said: not so, the blood doctrine was established in 1945 , blood transfusions had been pioneered in the late 19th century and the blood types had been discovered in the early 20th century. So neither Russell nor Rutherford championed it; it was historically recent.
The question is, if it is patently unbiblical to have a blood transfusion, why did it take them so long to figure it out?

"They probably wouldn't want her working in food service at WT head quarters."
That's probably why the Bethel brothers always ate the same meals as each other. I wonder if that ever came up as a discussion amongst leadership during the Rutherford era?

Did Geoffrey Jackson Actually Reject His Faith During the ARC Hearing?
by xjwsrock inas portrayed in the convention videos this year about sergei (the fictional jw character in cold-war-era ussr), the jw leaders expect loyalty, even enduring imprisonment and/or death.
in one scene sergei was offered an early release from prison if he would sign a statement renouncing his religion.
well he refused and spent 5 years in prison as a result.
