random discussion today ended up in my wife mentioning when she saw halley's comet (1986?
) and all of a sudden i had a total recall moment!.
when it came by, rather than make the effort to watch it, i flippantly said "nah, i'll see it next time!".

are you moving on?.
i see some have a very hard time in life because of their witness past..
Not really. Being a Witness was/is not as bad as it is sometimes made out to be. Many things are/could be far worse.
Never suffered the non-college education thing and received all the support from my parents who saw excelling in school as the only way to escape the poverty trap.
I know it must have been different for many (going by experiences here narrated). But it is usually unfair to use one brush to tar all.

hi guys,.
being a brit living abroad, i never really understood the whole thanksgiving business.. i think growing up as a jw didn't help either.
anyway, i've rid myself of those jw shackles and have decided to take an interest into the goings on over the pond, especially as my favourite place on earth is bar harbor.
The Bible makes no mention of turkey, an animal most lacking in grace.
Noah did not have turkey in the Ark. The beast must have been created by Satan after the flood.
True Christians refrain from such idolatry, akin to worshipping the golden calf.
These and other revelations will soon be communicated when the Chariot comes a-galloping.

i was having a conversation with a jw relative recently i casually mentioned how much better the world is than a few centuries.
obviously the jw was incredulous.
the next day i found an email in my inbox listing a few qoutes from notable people saying how the world has gotten much worse since 1914 and that 1914 was a pivitol year.
No denying the fact! These are the best of times! Even sworn enemies make peace after just a couple days of "war" (Isreal/Hamas). Gays get married and are not stoned to death. Good muslims even drink alcohol.
Life is cool.

it was about 6 weeks or so ago that i excitedly posted that i had gotten a job that i had been interviewed for.
in the weeks that have passed i have been in contact trying to find out about my paper work - i still have not gotten a letter of appointment, an offer or a contract.
i have expressed concern at their lack of professionalism but that falls on deaf ears.
Very sorry, but there is so much lack of human feeling out there. Do look elsewhere. Even if you were to hear from them eventually, would you really like to work for such a company? You deserve something better!

i'd like extend a greeting to all members of jwn.
i've been a lurking by-stander of this forum for approximately 6 months.
i think this forum's best moments can be attributed to the involvement of actual jw's in doctrinaire discussions and to heated (though not always dialectic) debates.
A warm welcome, Ethos. Since you've been lurking for that long, you probably have a handle on the contour of the Board.
Many (myself included) have ended up - as LouBelle said - not wanting to be proven anything or to prove anything to anyone. In the end, JWism is all about belief, and people are free to believe whatever they desire.
Having participated in many a board (you probably never knew the original H2O, the best in its time), it's all like walking a circle.
I believe you will end up either in full flight or will settle down to some rational acceptance that much of JWism is untenable. I am 50, been "in" physically vast stretches of my short life, but have been mentally out for so long! However, only in the past two years have I fully realized the futility of trying and hoping that a greater good could compensate for the harm this religion has caused so many. What relief to no longer go through the motions!
I write this as a welcome because if you have been around lurking for months, there must be a void somewhere in you that you seek to fill, a hunger for uninhibited knowledge. This is a great place to obtain that - and all the responsibilities that come with it.

this is a melancholy day for me.
over the past few years i have been studying american politics and have enjoyed learning perspectives from different ideologies.
i personally lean towards conservative values when it comes to creating legislature, however i am socially liberal.
Would you have felt better if Mitt had won? Would the country's prospects have become brighter? Did you really grasp what he was trying to sell throughout his campaign?
My questions are honest. I am not American.
i am not huge into politics but i follow the american elections and kind of keep my finger on it.
i have my own strong views on sa politics.. i just want to applaud you, the american people for going about your elections in a very fair, democratic and peaceful manner.
it certainly came across very polished and well run.
Talking about SA, that Malema guy is way above nuts. Not that Jacob Zuma is any better. Cape Town is the love of my life and ranks at the very top of all places I've even been to.

If you think the Bible is "bad", then try the Qu'ran. No worse drivel was ever spouted! And to see millions stake their life on it and kill for it is quite mindboggling.
from nigerian newspaper via google alert a few minutes ago;.
entire family, 20 others die in fatal accidenttragedy struck weekend in akwa ibom state as a man, his wife and all their children, as well as more than 20 others, all members of the jehovahs witness church, perished in a fatal road accident which occurred, friday, along the utu etim ekpo road in etim ekpo local government area of the state.. forty other members of the church sustained varying degrees of injuries following in the crash which occurred on their way to the jehovahs witness annual convention ground in ikot ekpene local government area of the state.. thisdays gathered that more than 70 members of the church had hired a lorry to convey them from ukanafun local government area to ikot ekpene for the annual district convention which began on friday and billed to end today (sunday) but the journey ended half way with many members of the church dying on the road in the accident.. eyewitnesses alleged that the driver of the lorry conveying the church members to the venue of the convention lost control of the vehicle when he got to utu etim ekpo, the junction opposite the local government secretariat, and hit the stone used to construct the roundabout, thus resulting in the lorry somersaulting, leaving many of its passengers and others wounded.. the corpses and those injured in the accident were said to have been taken to neighbouring hospitals and mortuaries.. one of the eyewitnesses, mr. friday john, said the people who died may have been more than what was seen because a whole family including parents and their children were all trapped in the accident.. we were all here discussing when suddenly the lorry appeared and was looking like the driver had lost control of it.
then the lorry drove straight and hit the stone and somersaulted into the gutter.. many people died, more than 18. in fact, we couldnt count the number because there were many corpses, including husband, wife and children and they were all taken to the mortuary in various hospitals near etim ekpo here, john explained.. in another narration, a secondary school teacher in eka uruk eshiet etim ekpo, mr. ndipmo nkanta, said the lorry boarded by the deceased and the injured passengers was not meant for passengers but goods only.. he blamed the accident on poverty , arguing that if there was a better alternative, such casualties wouldnt have been recorded, especially as they were going to worship god.. the public relations officer of the federal road safety corps, frsc, in the state, mr. godsgift uwen, blamed the incident on over-speeding and overloading by the driver of the lorry.. he said the lorry was not supposed to carry any passenger as it was a meant for goods only but the driver stubbornly used it as a passengers vehicle, which led to the sad incident.. he advised against rush and drunken driving, especially in the yuletide, noting that these are some of the major causes of accidents on the roads.. culled from thisday".
You missed the word "probably". In any event, could it have made a difference if they hired an aircraft and it crashed?
