Some people speculate that since these people knew about the great flood, they were trying to build a tower that would reach higher than the surface of the water if another flood came about, thus defying God. Maybe God knew this this couldn't save them from a flood, but the people were all coming together in rebellion to God rather than filling the earth like he had commanded. So the best way to force people to spread out was to confuse their languages.

The tower of Babel- full of holes?
by highdose ini was thinking the other day about the tower of babel ( like you do) somthing that always puzzled me about reading the account in our modern day times is that we have today buildings that would have been vastly taller than the tower of babel.
even if purely because the materials needed to build modern sky scrapers have to be light in order to acheive that height.
accient heavy bricks just wouldn't have done it.. just why was god so threatened by a building???

Can anyone prove that birthday celebrations are forbidden by God?
by FaithfulBrother ini know that there is no mention of any birthday celebrations in the bible besides the two which were celebrated by non-believers.
and it just so happened that on each of these events, someone died (one non-believer and one believer).
but does it mean that just because the bible mentions these two events, that all birthday celebrations are forbidden?

I know that there is no mention of any birthday celebrations in the Bible besides the two which were celebrated by non-believers. And it just so happened that on each of these events, someone died (one non-believer and one believer). But does it mean that just because the Bible mentions these two events, that all birthday celebrations are forbidden? If you consider the practice of shaving, who were the ones who instituted the practice of shaving? The only ones who shaved in the Bible were the pagans. In fact, the Law said that "you MUST NOT cut off the extremely of your beard." So using the same principle, we could conclude that the practice of shaving is just as pagan as the celebration of birthdays. Yet how are JWs who are not clean-shaven treated by the rest of the flock? How would someone who chooses to celebrate the anniversary of their child's birth just as they would the anniversary of their marriage be treated?
Can anyone explain to me logically why birthday celebrations are forbidden by God?
When under the same law that commands the stoning of adulterers there is no law given forbidding the celebration of one's birthday?

Actually according to my sources Chick Fil A products do not actually contain chicken but human baby meat which goes against the bible's teaching not to sacrifice your children to Molech.

This goes along with the reason True Christians do not celebrate birthdays.

Explain
Well it's very simple. We as Jehovah's Faithful Servants would never willingly partake of food sacrificed to idols. So since Chick Fil A takes Sunday's off to sacrifice their chickens on Sundays which is not really the sabbath but a pagan sun worshipping day we would not eat there as True Christians.

If You Were Ever An Elder...
by Henry inwhat about the responsibility of being an elder did you dislike the most?
i served from september 2003 - june 2006. there were two things that bugged me the most the first was i got sick of the bickering amongst the body.
we had 7 elders and in nearly every situation, big or small, there was some division that got personal.

Haven't heard about any bickering between the elders in my hall, but it's my understanding that st my hall, all things are controlled by one power hungry elder in which all the other elders are low-iq yes-men who go along with anything he says.

There's a restaurant in my hometown called Bethel Family Restaurant - Soul Food which is owned by a black church and serves southern meals such as fried chicken, cornbread and greens. Never eaten there, but I don't remember any other religious restaurants as a kid.
