Yup. Happened to my brother about 15 years ago. My best friend called right after they made the announcement at her hall (the hall he was originally df'd in, not where he currently attended). I called my brother and asked him about it, he had no idea. The elders never called to let him know they had reinstated him. Bastards. He never attended again.
since leaving the borg, my kids have adjusted pretty well, embracing the "worldly" lifestyle of holidays, friends, fitting in with the "norm".. my youngest son chance, had the hardest time of my three kids when we left , he is now 10 yrs old.
when we left he cried wondering if jehovah was going to be mad at us for not going to meetings anymore.
after many heartpouring out talks it seemed he believed that god is love and if we were good people he would not destroy us at armeggedon.
Sometimes I wonder if I should take this child to a church that does not preach death and destruction, either the JW Armeggedon way or by way of hellfire.Any ideas on a church that is like that, maybe a non denominational one? Unitarian?
UM, nope. I had a good friend who started attending a Unitarian church because she wanted her sons (five and infant at the time) to believe in hellfire. She feels it's the only thing that saved her when she was a drug addict. She's terrified her sons will turn to drugs so she spends $1000s a month on private Christian school for them and takes them to church and teaches them about hell. She didn't see the irony in her thinking since she attended private school, believed in hellfire and still spent years as an addict. As we were stuck in a car on a four hour road trip at the time, it made for a rather uncomfortable weekend when I blew her beliefs out of the water. Our friendship died a bit that weekend then took a huge dive a few months later. I made the mistake of quoting scriptures. She had no way to defend herself since she never researched it herself, she merely took the word of the preacher.
My kids have come home with all kinds of stuff like that. Amazing what 6 year olds talk about on the playground.
so, i'm sitting here sorting out my recycling since tomorrow is trash day, and i remembered something that happened years ago that gave me a chuckle.. it was a sunday botchtower study and the topic was things that we should be doing to prepare for life in the new system.
even as a child, i didn't answer from the magazine and they never knew just what i was going to say; they would usually not let me hold the mic myself just for that reason... .
i had been learning about recycling to preserve our natural resources in school (6th grade, i was 10) and had my comment ready to go:.
if people only do it to save money, and because their neighbors frown upon them not doing it, then the issue will always be just that, an issue.
Nope, I wish it had an impact and I DO recycle even if it's for a reason YOU disapprove of. I've seen and read the truth about it and seriously think it's shyte. It makes people feel better. That's it. The impact is negligible and the waste of money and time is tremendous.
I think getting the manufacturers to market their products in less packaging is far more efficient. I will and do go for less packaging over the ridiculous huge boxes of little products. Remember when every deodorant was inside a box? Remember the horrible huge plastic contraptions that CD's were trapped in? We're getting there...
Now if we can just stop all the stupid catalogs and junk mail that fill up the recycling bins.

I recycle because my garbage bill is cheaper if I do. Besides, it's the PC thing to do.
Penn and Teller did a Bullshit episode on recycling. It's an eye opener, that's for sure. Skyman really isn't too far off.

She's a stylist...it can change daily...and often does. And she gets "pissed" when I don't notice...like it's an effort on my part. She will just say out of the blue..."So what do you think?" and I get that deer in the headlight look... I truly don't know and am askeeered! lol!
You are not alone. I quit asking awhile back. He NEVER notices or at least is smart enough to not say a word. The one time he did it was something like "I was wondering who the blonde in the driveway was". FYI, it's a bit on the blonde side right now but I'll darken it up a bit come fall. He won't notice but says he prefers it darker...yeah right.

Really? He seems to be playing both sides at the moment, but he does enjoy stirring the pot and skipping out....probably whistling or something. BTW Ross, what was your point about the flag? As I mentioned before, I know exactly how many stars and stripes are on the flag, why do you care? Trying to test our patriotism? Or criticize the fact that we love our country but don't know how to draw the flag?

Yeh I think th UK is a great place to live, I just don't go around boasting about it.....usually. Ultimutly there is no "best" country different countries will suit different types of people.
Of course. I agree. I don't go around boasting about my country either. I do love my home though.
I can think of a ton of things I like about Britian that I don't think I'll find else where, but over countries offer things the UK can't.Like Sun for example.
The area of the US I live in has weather quite similar to yours. It sucks most of the time (no offense...I am describing my own home)
When someone boasts about their country though it comes across like this "Glad I don't live in YOUR country",
I doubt anyone really feels this way, it's the way it comes across TO YOU. I would never say anything like that.

This attitude always surprises me. If I say "my daughter is so beautiful" am I implying your daughter is not, or that my daughter is the only beautiful girl in the world? Nope. I just think my daughter is very beautiful. She whines unbelievably and is greedy and selfish. She is really a beautiful girl though. I wonder if your sensitivity to "the land of the free" is because that freedom is from your very own country. To me the difference between the people who fought for that freedom and those who enjoy it today is about the same as the difference between the old followers of Russell and Jehovah's Witnesses today. Both come from the same roots, but the people/thoughts/teachings/beliefs are so profoundly different, they are in fact, not anything alike.
